Chapter 80

The sound of birds chirping and the wind blowing over took my ears; I slowly opened my eyes, noticing I was no longer in the hospital room filled with people and beeping machines. I was now at the lake where Brax had asked me to be his mate. I sat up, confused, looking around, trying to figure out what was going on. And then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw him. Spike.

My heart leapt with joy at the sight of him. It had been so long since I had seen his face, felt his presence. But as he came closer, a wave of realization washed over me. Spike was dead. And if I was seeing him right now walking towards me, then maybe that meant I was too, and I don't think I'm ready to die yet.

"Spike?" I whispered, my voice barely above a whisper.

He smiled sadly at me, his eyes filled with understanding. "Hey, Princess."

I reached out to touch him, but my hand passed right through him. He wasn't really there. This was all just a dream or a hallucination.

"You're not real," I said, tears welling
