The first stop I made after leaving the Williams mansion, was the hospital.
Not even daring to go home.People were seen scrambling about, while the hospital remained in a state of chaos. I could see a crowd hovering over a figure that was laid on a stretcher, while some nurses dragged the person in, screaming for the way to be cleared. That blaring of siren which gets me worked up every now and then, that particular sound which turns my hands clammy, blasted all around the vicinity, adding up to the discomfort of noise.Growing up, I was taught the siren meant danger, rather than rescue. For it was only heard whenever there was trouble. Be it the police siren, ambulance, fire brigade service, whatever it was, you would only hear that sound when a life was at stake, hence I never grew fond of it.It still gave me the chills, even till now.Hurrying my way past the number of figures, I moved over to the room where my mom was kept. Her figure was laid on the bed, wires of all sorts attached to her body. She looked up immediately I walked in, a smile growing on her cracked lips.I pushed forward, rushing over, wrapping her in a hug, the smell of medications shooting up my nostrils.Arms went gripping onto her form tightly, the tears dropping from my eyes.It happened two weeks ago, when she slumped in our apartment. On getting to the hospital, we were informed she had complications of the heart.Being told it was very serious and that a transplant had to be done immediately, didn't help matters at all. I had taken all the family's savings but it wasn't enough. The doctors said they couldn't commence treatment without her paying up cause she needed a new heart."You were gone for hours. I was worried." mom uttered in a shaky voice."I went out in search of a job. Fortunately, I found one. Everything will be fine now mom. I promise "I only wanted to make her feel better, wanted to see her smile."I don't want you stressing yourself for me. You're too young to go through this." Came her response."Mom, I can't stand watching you suffer every single day. This is something I wanna do. There's no one to help us. It's just you and I now." I uttered, while holding her hands."Be careful, Nia" Her words were low, eyes intent in mine, while her hands went caressing my cheeks."I'm always careful" I followed with a smile, wanting to return every vigour back to that face. The bursting open of the door had managed to snatch out attention, with the sound of a voice breaking into the room.I was familiar with that voice. It belonged to the doctor who had received me that day we arrived at the hospital. He had a file in his hands, eyes peering into it.The moment my gaze rested on him, I shot up to my feet, hurrying over to his side."You have to commence treatment!" My utterance had jolted him."I have a job now, I swear I'll pay in a few weeks" But those eyes belonging to the man away, only peered on at me with utter disbelief, and perhaps sympathy?Who would believe a girl with no one to turn to, no place to go, would come up with such huge amount in such little time."I know how you feel" His voice was low."No you don't!" I had snapped at once, moving away from his figure.Every minute my mom spent on that hospital bed, got me angry. I wanted her to get better. I wanted to see her move around with ease and joy."Please, do the transplant already. She's getting weaker day by day. I don't want to lose her" I begged. His hands soon came resting on my weak shoulders, the sound of his voice breaking into my ears."I also do not want anything happening to your mother, dear. But we can't carry on with the transplant without you paying up""I'm sorry, but there's nothing I can do""You either pay up, or there will be no transplant" With that, he had walked out of the room, not giving me a chance to go on with my pleas.I couldn't tell when my form had dropped to the floor, the tears pouring out my eyes immediately."Nia"The voice of mother had snatched my attention. Low, raspy, yet audible enough. Her hands went motioning for me to come over, with that ever-bright smile taking her lips.Figure inching to hers, he hands gave me a light squeezed, pulling me even nearer to her chest, as I remained in her embrace. And all that lingered were the sound of my sobs filling the area, while I was pulled into the cold clutches of sleep.A tap on my shoulders, had at once jolted me off the comfort of sleep.Vision blur, I remained staring at the figure in front of me. Eyes slowly registering the person, and soon realizing it was a nurse. I looked around the room, examining every corner and every object present, and only then did it come to my knowledge that I was still at the hospital. Letting out a yawn, my gaze shifted over to mom who was still laid in the hospital bed, sleeping more peaceful than I'd ever seen her these past days. "Did you sleep here?" I heard the nurse utter to me. "Yeah.......Got so exhausted. What's the time?" I asked, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "8 a.m" She replied. At the mention of this, reality knocked the senses back into me "It's a new day already?" "Christ! I'm late for work" I exclaimed. "Kindly tell mom I left" I called while running out of the room, pushing past every figure I came across in the hall. Hurrying out of the hospital, I made my way down to the path which le
I rushed into the hospital with the money held close to my chest, hurrying into the room where my mom was. Three doctors were present in there talking to her.Perhaps discussing the bad sides that would occur, if she wasn't treated at once. Oh, how much they loved divulging not so good news. Every one of them. Can't wait to see the shock on their faces when I present the whole lot of the money to them. "I have the money, doctor." I said amidst panting, my loud voice did so much in getting each of their attention as they placed all focus on me. "You have to start immediately." I added. No utterance came from any of the men, they all just remained staring at me, watching as I waved the stack of currency before their eyes. "How much do you have there ?" One of them asked "I don't know" "I don't care"My breathing was heavy, beads of sweat all over my face, while I moved over to the wall, trying to steady myself and taking in deep breaths. They all stared at me like I was crazy.
I walked into the Williams mansion, a sad expression plastered on my face. Denna as usual was in the living room cleaning and dusting away all dirt while I walked in. "You're gonna get in trouble one day for turning up late" She smiled at me, waving her duster at my figure in the process. I struggled to flash a smile back, Proceeding quietly into the kitchen.Luckily for me, I found it to be empty. Now where could everyone be? Deciding it was time to commence the day's duties, I grabbed an apron, packed my hair in a bun, and went for the cleaning instruments which were at a corner screaming for my name. The sudden storming in of a figure caused my whole figure jolting, gaze shifting to the doorway where a form came pushing in. Somewhat familiar, It didn't take long for me recognising him—the same boy from yesterday, advancing towards me, his eyes never for once evaded my profile. His hair remained ruffled, jaw clutching tight, gaze held strongly on my form. Anger sure filled hi
The sky had turned an orange shade, with the midday sun slowly retreating into a cloud, signaling the end of work for me. Not that I was done with my chores or anything, but the day having come to an end got me feeling so excited. Truly, the day had been tiring--Dusting, vacuuming, washing and the list went on and on. Mary and Tara were in the kitchen preparing a meal for the family. The usual, While the Williams' all came out of their respective rooms, making their way to the dining room, prepared to have dinner as a family. I must say, it was quite admirable for every one of them obeying and turning up to the dining hall to have dinner with the rest of the family. I heard Ms Tara yelling out for Denna and I, while she in turn had the dishes laid on a tray. The first figure I came across the moment I stepped into the dining area, was Mrs Williams, sat by her husband while Tyler and Logan joined them afterwards, then followed Dylan, Derrick and David. "Where's Ashley and Camer
Third person POV... The man and lady of the house were dressed up ready to leave for their meeting. Both in the living room, patiently awaiting the arrival of their kids, just so they could mete out whatever instructions they had for them. Ashley soon came hurrying down the stairs, giving a squeal while twirling in front of their figures. "How do I look?" She questioned. Her eyes broadened immediately, ears perked, awaiting the response she yearned to hear roll out her father's lips. Worn on her body was a mid-length tight fitting dress, paired up with thigh high boots."Beautiful.....Very beautiful" Mr Williams cleared his throat, eyes accessing the outfit on his 'innocent' girl."But sweetheart, it's just a party. It's not prom" He stated. His utterance earned him an eye-roll from the girl, who in fact had took her time going through the depths of her closet just to pick out something to her taste. No rebuttal from any one would cause her turning around to get changed into som
Dawn came quick. It didn't take hours into the morning for me to hear a car pull up in the driveway, announcing the arrival of Mr and Mrs Williams. They sure had returned earlier than I expected. Without wasting much time, I hurried into one of the bathrooms, running myself a bath. I proceeded downstairs afterwards, and found Mrs Williams sat on the couch going through random stuff."Good morning ma'am" I greeted warmly. Her gaze was still away from me, while she searched through the stack of things in front of her. "Is it okay for me to go see my mom?" I questioned. "Of course." She responded, voice sounding distressed. She turned around to me, a blank expression on her face. The lady looked a bit disturbed which only got me wondering whatever was wrong. Could the affairs of business be taking its toll on her. It was just as expected from people so influential as the 'Williams' "Thank you for staying with the kids." she added in a soft voice. She soon left the living room, g
Walking into the mansion with happiness I hadn't felt in a long while, taking hold of my whole body. Mom was better now. The transplant had been carried out successfully, and at this moment, life's just as good. Stepping into the living room, I found it empty upon my entrance.Perhaps, the kids had all gone to school. I hurried into the kitchen, meeting the maids over there, some cooking, others standing by a corner waiting to be ordered. "Get to work immediately, Nia" Miss Tara yelled at my figure."clean and tidy all the rooms""Every one of them" She spoke.Yeah, yeah, yeah. Time to begin another round of turmoil, a voice uttered in my head. Oh, what wonders await you now? I thought.Following her orders, I wore my apron at once, picking up a broom and duster, and then proceeding out of the kitchen, moving to the rooms to begin cleaning. I was almost done with cleaning all the rooms, and a lot of time had passed. The sound of chatters, echoed all around the house, and the fi
Two days had passed since The heart transplant was done. "Where's Tara?" I heard Mrs Williams utter to me, while proceeding down the stairs. "In the kitchen." She took a pause after my response, eyes looking around the living room. The floors sparkled with a glint, mirroring the reflection of light from any angle. Yes. Just, yes. It took me two hours getting those floors scrubbed. Every gratitude must be properly meted to my fingers, which by now have already turned sore, yearning to have a rest. "I'll be leaving the house now" Mrs Williams announced to me. "Will be back soon" She added in a low voice. The day had turned dark already, silence ringing in the environment all around, and still, I wasn't done with my chores. My gaze turned to the figure of Denna walking into the living room, appearing all ready to leave."It's getting late. You should consider taking a rest" she stated, her eyes outlooking the night sky from the windows in the living room. "No, I'm totally fine
