Chapter 9: Mutual Use?

Late at night, Cecily's fever worsened. Luckily, Archie hadn't left yet. When Cecily's fever subsided a bit, Archie gave her some medicine and told Edwin to keep an eye on her. Edwin took his responsibility seriously.

Perhaps due to dreaming or the confusion caused by her illness, Cecily held Edwin's hand tightly and even began to speak incoherently. At first, Edwin couldn't make out what she was saying, but as she grew louder, her words became clearer.

"Edwin, if I ever stop loving you, I won't like you anymore."

Edwin was taken aback. He had never wanted Cecily's love, nor did he want her to like him. Besides, once he completed his plans, that day would come sooner or later.

Early in the morning, Cecily woke up to an empty room. Because of her fever, her throat was sore. She decided to get out of bed to pour herself some water.

However, thinking that she might encounter Archie, she changed into fresh clothes first.
