Chapter Four

The next day...

Lucy opened her eyes lazily and observed the room keenly

She sat up upon seeing no sign of Alex in the room and massaged her neck with a squeezed face. Her body ached badly from sleeping in the couch last night. And she couldn't feel her body properly

Last night everything was going on very smoothly. But within few minutes of kissing and touching, Alex suddenly became upset and threw her out of the bed

Lucy thought seriously about what could be Alex's problem, but nothing came in mind

May he wanted to marry Lora and not her. So automatically he doesn't like her. But that's okay with her, because she believes it will take a while for them to know each other well. And when this finally happens, Alex might start liking her

All she needs to do is to be an obedient and submissive wife to him. They're married now, and she needs to protect this relationship for her own safety in the future

If ever Alex becomes upset and send her out of his life, then she'll end up crawling back into that same family where she's not wanted

No matter what happens, she'll have to make Alex start liking her somehow. Only this can make her feel safe

Lucy freshened up and went downstairs for breakfast. After occupying her seat, she spotted someone in black suit seated a seat away from her

Taking a glance she saw Alex. He sipped in coffee as he spoke about some business matters with Aaron and his uncle. Vanessa also chipped in occasionally, making Lucy feel lonely

After breakfast was over, Alex left the mansion with Aaron and Vanessa. Lucy felt bored all alone, so she went to the kitchen to talk to the maids

Maybe she can find some useful information about how to make Alex happy from them. The food he likes, how he likes it, the things he often do, and the rest

"Ma'am, you can't be here. Please be in your room and order us for anything you need" one of the maids quickly jumped in front of Lucy and explained tremblingly

Lucy stood at the door dumbfounded. She hadn't even stepped into the kitchen yet, and so much drama from the maids already?

Just because she's the wife of Alex doesn't mean she can't be in the kitchen. She used to cook day and night for her family back at the Whites mansion. So she's used to being in the kitchen

Staying in her room idly all day isn't part of her. And it's going to start now either

"I just want to have a talk with you" Lucy shrugged her shoulders and stepped into the kitchen

"I guess you must be very fond of cooking. Come with me" another maid stepped forward and smiled at Lucy before walking out

She doesn't look so young or old either. She looks like a woman in her early or middle forties. And she's the senior house help of the mansion

Lucy followed the woman quietly to the hall and sat beside her in the sofa

"What do you want to talk about? I'm all ears" the maid smiled at Lucy with assuring eyes

"Who are you? Are you related to my husband?" Lucy asked calmly

"No. I'm just a common house help. But I've been in this mansion for the past twenty-five years. By then, Alex was just seven years old, Bella was five, Judith was three, and Vanessa was still in the womb" the woman explained with tears rolled up in her eyes

"Who is Judith?" Lucy asked with furrowed brows

"She's the second daughter of this family. She was so adorable"

"Where's she?"

"Unfortunately, she passed away with Mr. and Mrs. Green during the tragic robbery on this family twenty-five years ago. Haven't you ever heard of it?" the woman asked Lucy curiously

This tragic incident became the front page of every newspaper in the city for over a decade. It was unbelievable and very thrilling also

Police did all their possible best to find the culprits but to no avail. Even up till now, the search still goes on

Updates on the issue are given every week. Even though many people have lost hope in the police, others still does. And until the culprits are found, the issue never goes to sleep

Lucy shook her head slightly and asked "how did this happen?"

"That's one thing that still remains a mystery. Nobody knows how this happened, because everything happened in the night while we were all fast asleep. And... interestingly Vanessa was still in the womb"

"What?!..."Lucy's mouth opened widely with shock. She couldn't believe her ears

If Vanessa wasn't born yet then how did she survive through?

"Yes. After the robbers left we called the ambulance to take all of them to the hospital. Nobody had hope Vanessa would survive because Mrs. Green was already dead when the ambulance arrived. But I guess it's very true when they say miracles do happen"

"What's going on here?" just as Lucy was about asking another question, Aarons voice sounded softly from the door

The woman immediately stood up upon seeing him and left for the kitchen. She's just a mere house help. And under normal circumstances she's not supposed to even sit closer to Lucy for any reason. But for some reasons she had to, because the first impression she had about Lucy made her like her that instant

Nobody in this mansion gives them any value because they're maids. And the fact that Lucy even walked into the kitchen just to have a talk with them made her heart lit with joy

She's different, unlike the other family members in the house

"What were you talking about with Nelia?" Aaron asked Lucy with a curious face

Lucy was about to tell him everything but abruptly changed her mind. Looking at the way Nelia left as soon as she spotted him, she felt maybe telling him about whatever they spoke about could land her into some trouble

"Why have you come back? I saw you leaving with my husband" Lucy replied Aaron with her own question

"Yeah...actually I don't have any important work to do so...I thought of coming back for you" Aaron ran his hand through his air and said in a calm tone

"Come back for me? I don't understand that?"

"Aren't you feeling bored? Why don't you follow me to the company for a tour? Have you been there before?" Aaron sat in the sofa and asked

"No. But I guess it'll be interesting to have a tour there. I'll be back in a minute" Lucy smiled slyly at Aaron and headed upstairs to her room

Aaron smiled to himself and stared at the back of Lucy as she ascended the stairs. He kept on staring until she finally vanished out of sight and sighed out loudly with satisfaction

He had promised himself to make it up to her for what happened yesterday

But is that what he's really doing now?

Aaron thought for a while and frowned slightly. He's heart felt a bit uneasy, and he ordered for a glass of water to calm himself down

He didn't look so happy with whatever he was thinking about. And his nose kept on twitching occasionally as he thought

"Make sure whatever you're thinking about right now isn't something that will make me feel disappointed in you someday" Mr. Stanley showed up from nowhere and sat beside Aaron gently

"What do you mean by that father?" Aaron shifted his attention to him and asked keenly

"You definitely know what I mean by that. Just don't end up looking stupid in front of some idiots. I might straightaway disown you as my son without a second thought if that happens. So be careful" Mr. Stanley got up and walked away after spilling out these words to Aaron

Aaron's brows arched deeply as his jaws clenched fiercely. He seemed to have understood whatever his father said. But he wasn't so happy with it
