It became a lengthy-drawn-out process because of all the legal complications. Everett insisted on staying with her for support and sat in the dark shadows off to the side, away from the cameras, watching everything. It’d been five years since she’d seen or spoken to him, not since the fateful night he’d left. Thinking about that night was unbearable.
