Chapter Seven

Maya glanced around the café and it was empty, she and Rome were the only ones inside the café. She crossed her arms and put on a cold expression but deep inside her, she was trembling and asking herself different questions. This guy and Jared were brothers? She never knew that Jared had a sibling, he was always alone and he told her that apart from him, his parents didn’t give birth to any other child. They also smelled a bit alike so Maya knew that he wasn’t lying when he said they were brothers.

“Who are you? Did Jared send you here to find me? Or was it Vivian?” Maya decided to stop acting like she had no idea what he was talking about. He already knew who she was so there’s no need to keep pretending. She could only stall for time and run away with her kids.

“Jared? Send me here? Miss Maya, you’ve got to give me more credit than that. I’m not someone that that stupid brat can order around.” Rome sat on a chair and crossed his legs; he looked so at ease that Maya wondered if he wasn’t here to look for her. But he did say that Jared couldn’t order him around.

“Then why are you here? Why did you look for my information if you have nothing to do with me, or don’t tell me that you were just curious about who I was? You don’t even know me!” At this time, some other workers had started filing into the café and the moment they entered, the first thing they saw was Maya and a man. Rome stared at them, smiled and waved before Maya growled slightly, “Let’s take this elsewhere.” She then turned on her heels and left the café, she greeted some of the staff’s as they left.

Maya took Rome to the back of the café, there was an abandoned Alleyway there and without a word, she casted a barrier around them so no one would be able to hear what they were saying.

“So tell me, why were you looking for information about me? We have never met before; you also spoke in a familiar way to me when you visited the café the last time too.”

“Well, you don’t remember that we met before, but I do. Although our brief meeting might not be considered an actual meeting since it was just a fleeting glance from me and an apology from you at the airport but it was still an acquaintance nonetheless.” Rome shrugged, a small smile played on his lips. Maya raised her eyebrows, “A fleeting glance? The airport? When did we meet at the… oh.”

“You remember.” Rome chuckled slowly and Maya came to her senses, “It doesn’t matter and on the contrary, it is more than suspicious to investigate me just based on the fact that we have met before. So tell me, what is it you truly want? You purposefully left trails after-“

“Because I didn’t want you to think that I was a bad person.”

“… Investigating my past and you even came to me! I don’t believe you did that just because you were curious about me!” Maya yelled with her eyes wide and her body trembling. She was scared, and rightfully so. Someone just inserted themselves into the past she so dearly wanted to hide and laid his knowledge to her on a platter that she didn’t want. She was scared that he would find out that she was pregnant for Jeremy and try to take her children away from her. She was so damn frightened! She had been running away all these years only to be found out by a stranger in less than a day!

“I’m sorry. I didn’t think you would be as panicked as you are now. The truth is that I was actually curious; I knew that you were pregnant and when I saw you again, I also knew that you have given birth. The main reason why I ordered the investigation was because of the scent on you, it smelled like Jared and it also smelled like… me.”

“You? Are you implying that you thought the child was…?”

“No, I never said something like that! I’m not the type of man to sleep around, what do you know, I might also be a virgin.” Rome winked at her and she rolled her eyes, “Yeah right, a virgin, Hahaha…” Her laugh was sarcastic and Rome sighed deeply, was it because he is so handsome that people don’t usually believe that he is still a virgin?

“Anyways… I had no bad intentions when I asked for your information to be gathered, Miss Maya. If I offended you in any way, I hope you don’t take it to heart. As for what I found out, trust me not to say anything to others, I do not have a habit of gossiping about other people, except with people who think of Jared as a fool. How could he let go of a woman like you and then want to mate that conniving snake?”

Upon hearing that, Maya laughed, her voice sounded like bells, “Even his brother thinks he’s a jerk? How bad was he to you?”

“You see…”

“What do you mean? Rome didn’t agree for me to become Alpha? Do you need his permission for me to do that? That guy is a bastard, he has always hated me! He would never give you permission!” Jared yelled, and his father banged his hands on the table.

“Do not speak about your uncle that way, the elders have chosen him as the representative of the council and if he doesn’t give his permission, you will never become the Alpha. Can you even imagine, you called for a council meeting to make yourself the Alpha when I am not even dead yet? Were you always wishing for me to die?!”

“N…no, I…”

“Jared, I have been tolerating your stupidity for so much longer because of your mother but this is the tip of the iceberg. No wonder Rome doesn’t want you to become Alpha, you are not fit for that.”
