Pregnant?

Stacy could feel her heart wandering away as the second passed. Just a few days ago, she was a married woman, having the best time of her life with her husband, but now…

The events of the day flickered through her mind and she suddenly felt it hard to breathe. Her broken heart was concentrated heavily on her that she could barely make herself move, much less feel any emotions at that moment.

In just a day, she had lost everything that amounted to her - her Marriage and her friendship. The only people she could only find consolation in totally turned their backs on her, jabbing her heart in the most heartless way ever.

Currently, she was at Helena's place as that was the only place she could think of. She had recounted her whole trial to Helena with her tears flowing down her cheeks.

She had convinced herself that she was strong, that she was undeterred by the new events in her life, but deep down, she knew it was all a veil. Deep inside her heart, she felt deserted.

"That Rita, I never knew she was an opportunist all along" Helena's sharp voice halted Stacy from her thoughts.

"And that your husband! How could he do that to you? You gave him everything you could offer, he was the first man in your life and yet he cheated you? With no one but your best friend!" Helena lifted her voice.

She had never trusted Rita for once. Back in their college days, she had known Rita wasn't the person she claimed to be. But because Stacy had always adored and valued Rita, she had no choice but to compel Stacy's will.

"Can you stop talking about them, please?" Stacy's voice twitched, barely even audible but Helena managed to hear her words.

The weight of the betrayal was heavy upon her, ruining every chance of her acting nonchalant. The chance of her getting over this was very slim, but she had sworn to herself that she'll build herself into another woman, someone who was out of their reach and call.

"So, what do you aspire to do?" Helena asked, earning Stacy's attention back to her.

Stacy leaned against the sofa, and by the expression on her face, it was apparent that she already had a decision in mind, one which can't be altered no matter how anyone tries to talk her out of it.

"I intend to leave the country," Stacy said, holding her head up high, preparing herself for the new journey ahead of her.

"Your mind seems to be made up," Helena muttered while Stacy's expression remained stoic.

"I'll always support your decision, Stacy, you should know that," Helena said.

Hearing those comforting words, a warm impression came down upon Stacy's soul and she smiled gratefully at the lady before her.

"Thank you, Helena" she smiled, feeling pleased that she had someone who cared about her.

The next day, Stacy already had everything organized. She couldn't possibly stay at Helena's place, she wouldn't want to be a source of burden to her.

Even though Helena had tried to talk her out of it, Stacy declined. She couldn't stay in the same country with those who had punctured her heart heartlessly, that'd only add more salt to her wounds.

"Is this the right thing to do?" Helena fixed Stacy with her luminous, empty eyes and melancholy smile.

"The best I could ever think of" Stacy convinced with a smile. Deep down, she was gloomy, but what was she to do? She needed to recover herself back.

"Let me know if you need anything, I'll come running to you" As much as those words sounded like a joke, Stacy could sense the sincerity and solemnity in them.

With a warm feeling coursing through her, Stacy pulled Helena forward into her arms, relishing the comfort she earned from her.

"I won't ever forget your love for me, Helena" she murmured.

After they had bid each other goodbye, Stacy entered the plane, bracing herself for what lay ahead of her. It was a new journey, one which she was ready to embark on.

The flight took longer than usual and by the time Stacy settled down in the flat she had rented, she was beyond exhausted. She had to rest when weariness seeped into her system.

With her head resting on the headboard in the bedroom, Stacy's mind drifted to the moment she had shared with her husband.

Just two nights ago, they had shared a passionate night - a night filled with promises of their love and loyalty.

Nathan had told her he loved her that night and she had believed every of his single words, but it turned out he was the exact opposite of what she had presumed him to be.

Her heart sank deeper and deeper as the minutes ticked by. Chasing all painful memories away, Stacy felt herself drowning in the sea of drowsiness, not being able to control herself, her eyes shut on their own accord, and nature took its place instantly.

Days flies and Stacy was slowly getting accustomed to her new home - Los Angeles.

But as the days passed, Stacy didn't fail to notice the odd changes in her body. She gets tired at every slight chance and wouldn't hesitate to throw up if she had a chance to.

Thinking all this was a result of stress, Stacy had decided to visit the hospital for a check-up, maybe she could know the diagnosis of her sickness.

With sweaty palms, Stacy sat in the reception patiently awaiting the doctor's arrival.

Different thoughts swirled in her mind and fear coursed through her veins. What if she was diagnosed with cancer? Or…

"Miss Keach?" The feminine voice disrupted Stacy's thoughts. Her gaze went in the direction of the voice and she saw a nurse beckoning her to get closer which she did.

"The Doctor would like you to come in now," the nurse said to Stacy who smiled in gratitude.

Stacy arrived at the Doctor's office and found him occupied with the stack of files on his table. Each step she took toward the Doctor sent her heart on fire. What if something was wrong with her? Was she dying soon?

"Have your seat, Miss Keach" The Doctor offered a sit to her which she accepted.

"Doctor, nothing is wrong with me, right? I'm not diagnosed with cancer or sort, is that it?" Stacy's voice, fear dripped at each of the words she uttered.

"No, that's not the issue, Miss. From the result of the check we had performed on you, we discovered that you've been worrying yourself lately which is not good for your health or the infant" the Doctor said and for a brief moment, Stacy thought she had heard him wrong.

"Infant? What's that supposed to mean?" She asked.

Stacy saw the Doctor smile at her which only added to her apprehension.

"I should have mentioned this earlier, pardon my manners" he apologized while Stacy's breath accelerated in impatience.

"Congratulations, Miss Keach, you're two months pregnant."
