Chapter Ten

Everything was different here at the Blue Creek pack; everything was just the complete opposite of the place that I had grown up calling my home.

I did not miss that place, not one tiny bit.

Helen was kind to me, and when we sat down to eat, it was strange not being the one to serve and do all of the runnings about.

I felt slightly out of place, but Helen reassured and comforted me.

“Do you want to be friends?” I asked her sheepishly and then felt like an idiot for asking something stupid.

She smiled warmly and nodded her head eagerly.

“Of course. We can be friends. I would love that.” Helen shoved a forkful of food into her mouth, causing me to let out a chuckle.

When I looked up, my eyes went straight to Alex; his smile was distracting. The old lady standing beside him made me almost fall out of my seat.

Helen shoved her plate away and tended to me caringly.

“What is it?” she exclaimed.
