"Don't be scared boys," Dexter says with a stiff face as he stares at his father.

"He won't cause you any harm," he promises them both, "that is your grandfather." He says.

Looking at Dexter I find that he's neither smiling nor frowning, but hostility surrounds them. The bad blood between them has me worried about how my kids will be treated, but then I remember Dexter saying he loves them.
