I had a feeling that something was off. Despite the mind-blowing sex we just had, when I asked Anna about her kidnappers, she grew distant and wouldn't meet my eyes. It was obvious that she was hiding something, and it made me uneasy.

As I made my way downstairs, I spotted Anna sitting with Matteo at the kitchen table. They were chatting and laughing as if they had known each other for years. I didn't know what Matteo's deal was, but I didn't like how comfortable he was becoming with Anna. I slid into the seat between them, effectively interrupting their conversation.

I needed to make a point, to let Matteo know that Anna was officially mine. I noticed that Anna had only a small amount of food on her plate and decided to use it to my advantage.

“After the workout we just had, you need to refuel with a hearty breakfast to keep you going all day long,” I said, gesturing to her plate.

Matteo raised an eyebrow. “What workout? Did you guys hit the gym this morning?”
