Chapter Thirteen

*Aunty Maggie’s POV*

As I sat in my car outside the gates of the orphanage home, my heart was pounding so loudly in my chest that I could barely hear the sound of my own thoughts. It had been so many years since I had last been here, but the memories flooded back to me as if they had only happened yesterday.

I had been so young, just a girl really, when I had come to this very same place with a baby in my arms. That baby had been my daughter, the result of a one-night stand with a stranger at a party. I had been so foolish, so naive to think that I could just walk away from that night without any consequences.
