Chapter 3

"We can't leave her here alone. The boss would get angry." One of the guards said. I don't open my eyes. I act asleep and listen to them talk.

"He wouldn't find out. I'll be back in a short time." Another said.

"I can't risk being in trouble all 'cause you want a drink!" The fool was addicted and it would certainly cost him his life. I mean with Salvatore not the alcohol.

"Oh, come on. She's fast asleep. I'll be back." He said in a dismissing voice. I narrowed my eyes open as the guy I presume wanted a drink, walked out.

It was just the other guy left.

I slowly open my eyes fully and try to stand, but a sharp pain hits my back. I look down at myself. My hands were behind, tied to a chair. The strain was what caused my back ache.

"Fuck it." I curse. An hour or more of sleep and I had already forgotten Salvatore had tied me up in his basement.

I look up at the Hockley pendant light hung right above me which did little justice to lightening the room. The brick concrete walls were stained with dried blood in some areas. At my right was a steel drum. I didn't even want to guess what was inside. The basement was old and smelt badly.

I've never been in here but from guess and how old the basement looked, you could tell the basement has swallowed a lot of blood from Salvatore's father's reign till now.

I looked up at my right with raised eyebrows at the guard watching me closely. "Get a life boy. Being a guard will take you nowhere but to your death." He says nothing and it pushes me to talk more. "Trust me, Salvatore doesn't give a shit about your life."

"Likewise you, so you either shut up or make me want to slit your tongue."

"I can go with the second option. I'll love to see you try." I give him a daring look, keeping my eyes straight on his face. He was too ugly for a loudmouth. It wouldn't hurt to put an end to his miserable life. Of course, I couldn't shut my mouth though I saw the frustration on his face. "How do you cope with life?" He raises a brow at me. "I mean, with that face."

I watch his jaw clench. I was pushing him and that was exactly what I wanted. I needed him close so I could attack him and grab his weapon.

He opens his mouth to speak but the sound of a door opening and closing is heard so he adjusts and stands still.

I smirk with a light scoff as I move my eyes up to see Nico descending the stairs.

"Where is he?" He asks referring to the other guard.

"He stepped out. He was called for a quick duty." The guard lied.

I turn to look at the guard, a smile forming on my lips, then I look away. What would I gain if I exposed him anyway?

Nico looked at him for a while, he didn't buy his lie but he decided to ignore him and face me. He says nothing as he watches me with a bored look while I grin at him.

I found him interesting not because he is Nico, but because he is Salvatore's son. I bend my head to the side, not looking away from him, as I start fiddling with the ropes. "You should always tell a girl if you think she's pretty."

"I don't think you're pretty." I mouth an ouch as he continues talking. "I just wonder why you want me dead."

I open my mouth to tell him he was a mistake and I don't even know him to want him dead. I wanted to tell him it was his father's life I wanted but then I closed my mouth. I clear my throat and open my mouth to speak. "I told you I'm a serial killer. I can't lend you the reasons for my actions."

"No, you aren't a serial killer. You're just a girl not to be trusted. A girl who wants to learn how to play with dangerous people."

"Don't make assumptions. You might be all wrong."

"I once said you shouldn't be trusted. That was an understatement. I didn't know you would go this far."

"I told you before and I'll tell you again. Don't underestimate me."

"That's the only word I choose to believe from you." He takes two steps closer, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Now believe me when I say this. Don't underestimate me too."

I scoff. "You couldn't even place a gun to my head when you had the chance, or slit my throat with the knife. I gave you several options when I walked into your room with a gun, knife, and even a broken vase." I move my hands slowly on the rope. It was gradually loosening and I made sure none of them suspected my actions. "But you did n, think," I add.

"I don't harm girls." He said it like it was a normal thing for people in his world.

I stare at him, shocked by his reply then I look away. I couldn't let him get to me and make me feel soft toward him. "Don't tell me the monster produced an angel." I scoff, rolling my eyes in the process.

"I am no angel. You'll come to realize that sooner."

"I would love to see you reveal the monster inside you. I wouldn't be surprised 'cause I have no expectations from you."

He says nothing, I look down at his Adam's apple. I watch it move as he swallows. My eyes linger there for a while before looking up to meet his eyes to see them watching me.

I don't look away. I kept the challenge until he looked away and I decided I was tired of acting like I was still tied to this uncomfortable chair. I struggle aggressively on the chair just so that the guard will walk to me. As planned, he does and tries to shut me up but I quickly rise to my feet. I grabbed his gun and twirled him around so his back was pressed to my front, and then I held strongly to his hands behind him.

"Stay still or I'll shoot," I warned as he tried to attack me with his legs. I move back but keep my hold on him. He tries to elbow my ribs but I dodge. I clench my teeth in frustration. "You're just going to make it hard for the two of us, aren't you?" I move the gun to his lap and shoot.

"Fuck." He tried not to scream but I saw him tense from the pain. His hands turned into fists as he tried not to show pain.

My eyes move up to Nico to see him watching us calmly. His hands were still in his pockets and he looked more relaxed than ever. I wondered what was up with him. The bastard was void of emotions.

"Let me leave or I'll kill him." I threaten but he shows no emotion of fear or the need to protect his worker.

"I'll save you the stress then." In the blink of an eye, a gunshot from his gun broke through my ears and the guard was lying dead on my shoulder.

I panicked at his dead body touching mine. Blood splattered on my face and I quickly released the guard's hands and watched with wide eyes as he slumped to the floor.

I snap my head up at him. "You couldn't even wait to show me you are close to no angel." I scoff disgusted and angry with his actions. He shot the tool I planned to use to escape without second thoughts.

"He deserved it. The Lucchese don't need a man who can be handled that way by a woman."

I watched him. The little features on his face made me see Salvatore in him and I don't think I need to think twice. I think I already hate him.

Not that he cared. The bastard seemed emotionless and I have every intention of using this bastard to get my sweet revenge.
