MITCH'S POV

Gustav was anxious about Cassie leaving our side. He wanted to be with our mate at all times. But instead of driving her home, I chose to stay behind because of my mother's request to speak to me alone. Good thing my best bud, Jim, was here. He offered to take my mate home on my behalf. I could tell him and Cassie will be good friends. I appreciated him so much. Even though we were not from the same pack, we still had a strong connection. He was more than just my friend. He was like a brother to me.

“My sweet baby boy,” I heard my mother say, and I blinked back from my thoughts. Her smiling face came into view, and she ran her open palm over my face. “I'm so glad you're OK.” My mother replied as she squished my head up against her breasts.

“Mom! Mom! I can't breathe,” I announced as I tried to push her off — respectfully, of course. She was pissed that I left the room earlier and went on a walk with Cassie. It was a good thing I went in search of her, she would have died
