Memories and heartbreak

MEMORIES AND HEARTBREAKS

Caleb is sitting on his couch having a photo of Ruby in his hands. There are no tears left to cry. He doesn’t want to go to school again. He paced back and forth in his room. Every memory of Ruby filled his mind. He still can’t forget the day he proposed to her. He can’t figure out why he’s so addicted to her. All he cares about is his passion and future. That’s why he never had any friends. He never cared about having a girlfriend until he met Ruby.

Ruby is his obsession.

.....

Caleb picked up Ruby from her home in his own car. The only car of Lowe’s family.

“Where are you taking me?” Ruby happily asked him with her innocent smile.

“You will see it soon.” they both locked hands and walked together into Caleb’s house. Somehow it feels like royalty. Caleb tied her eyes with a cloth and got her inside his house. At that time, they are just friends. Friends for more than four years. They both are studying in 11th grade.

“Ruby’s here,” someone squealed. It’s no one but Chloe. She got excited about her brother’s proposal. After Caleb got her inside, he slowly opened the cloth and Ruby can finally see his room.

He arranged his room like a French restaurant. Ruby always wanted to go to a French restaurant.

“Wow. It’s amazing.” Ruby got excited and about to hug him. But she managed to control herself. She’s too afraid to express herself even with her best friend.

“Thank you,” she said once again. Caleb just gave his beautiful smile and motioned her to sit at the table.

They started to eat once they were seated. Caleb served her and soon both are finished their dinner waiting to talk something. He can’t able to take his eyes off her till they finished dinner. Sometimes he’s being proud of being her friend, because she always chooses her friends wisely. Others always think about who will talk with her, but she’s the one who’s avoiding toxic people and fake friends.

“I want to ask you something,” Caleb started nervously. Ruby just nodded, wiping her mouth with a tissue. Caleb doesn’t want to delay it anymore.

“Will you be my girlfriend?” He asked, waiting for her reply. What if she said no? What if she thought of him as a friend forever? What if she is afraid of him from now on? This thing should not happen. Sweat dripping from his face. Ruby got stunned without an answer.

“What happened? Did I scare you?”

“No... nobody asked like that. I never thought you would ask me.”

“So, I can’t get what are you trying to tell. Is it yes or no?”

“It’s yes.” she got over to his table nervously. He took that chance and kissed her without hesitation. He waited for this reply for so long. Being with Ruby is enough for him in his life.

“In fact, I have a feeling for you from the beginning. I was so scared to tell you and before I tried to open up my feelings, you became my friend and...”

“Okay. Now there’s nothing to worry about. You are my girlfriend and you always will be mine. I love you.” he interrupted her.

“I love you too”

“Congratulations” someone shouted and entered the room, bursting the door open. It was Charlotte, followed by Caroline and Chloe. Charlotte always likes to interrupt when something’s going so well. She will do it, especially when it comes to her brother. They are celebrating it like a marriage proposal. Caleb never laid his eyes on anyone except her, which is a rare thing for his sisters. All of them enjoyed the rest of the night, enjoying and shouting loud enough to disturb the neighbours.

....

“This isn’t fair” Caleb ran his finger through his hair in frustration. He started throwing everything in his room on the ground. Costly lamps, books, tables, and other things are lying on the floor, messed up. He looked at a photo. He and ruby are standing holding each other on a beach. This photo also holds so many memories it hurts him so badly. Finally, he threw the photo on the floor it broke into many pieces. He walked near the self and started throwing all other photos, including his family photos. He never cried or acted like this in his parent’s death. His sisters should have not let him handle this pain on his own. He is going insane. “I love you so much, Ruby. Why did you leave me? I should have died instead of you. I want you back. I want you back,” Caleb shouted loudly. He walked over to the kitchen and took the wine to drink. He thought it will help to minimize the pain. He drank everything in a gulp. He can’t take it anymore. He started to feel dizzy. Everything is looking double to his eyes within minutes. He dropped the bottle, which broke into pieces on the floor. He fell right on the pieces, never minding the pain. Soon, he drifted off, unconscious.

....

“I thought taking you to movies will clear up your mind,” Ian talked to Chloe on the road after school. It’s almost seven, but Chloe wants to relax by spending her time with her senior friend Ian.

“Yes. What’s the movie’s name?”

“‘I still believe’. I hope you like it”

“Sure,” she smiled, and they got the ticket, waited in the queue and bought popcorn, sprite and walked to the theatre. The movie is about to start. They found their seat in the dark. When the movies started, no one uttered a word. So far, the movie was happy, but the end wasn’t what they expected. Who knows how the movies end before seeing? Even though it’s a sad ending, there’s a belief which boosts up their mood.

“Are you crying?” Ian questioned Chloe, seeing some tears fall from her eyes. He can somehow see it in the dark.

“Yeah, sorry. I can’t control.”

“It’s okay dear. If you don’t feel well, we can go out,” He asked her with concern.

“No. Iam seeing the end,” she stubbornly told him. It all went well. When they stepped outside holding hands, still thinking about the romance movie. Suddenly, Chloe saw something familiar. A girl with red hair. Ruby is the only person her mind thought of.

“I saw Ruby,” Chloe told Ian stupidly. she can’t come back, she’s dead.

“I mean, I saw a girl with red hair...which...” she explained to him in a hurry trying not to lose sight of that girl.

“No, Chloe. You are so stressed. There are many girls with red hair. I also miss Ruby but...” she stopped him.

“I am not imagination. I didn’t see her face. But the hair. I recognize it. Iam not insane,” she looks like a fool to him. But he tried to comfort her, which isn’t happening.

“Okay, let’s see her. Come on, show me. We can follow her,” Ian firmly told her, still not believing her. Chloe grabbed his elbow and ran fast and standing a few steps away from that red hair girl.

“Excuse me,” said Chloe, slowly touching the girl’s shoulder with shaking hands......
