Lucas's hand trembled with the phone, his fingers curling around it, the rage inside his heart intensifying.

“What nonsense is this?” He spoke to the empty air, knowing they might be near. Hoping they were near. “You gave me an hour. I came earlier.”

The phone beeped.

He looked at the screen, reading the next text that popped. [To save her, bring more bags of money.]

Now his rage was beyond control. His eyes swept across the darkness, squinting them for a proper glimpse.

Something told him they were so close. And they had Heidi.

“Is this intentional? You should have demanded more before I came here.”

[We had a change of mind...] Another text came in. [... We feel just a billion isn't enough. Or is she not worth the wealth you've gathered.]

Was it some kind of test or what?

“I demand you stand by your promise.”

[Mr. Harrison, we command and you obey.]

Annoyed and irritated, Lucas's hand instinctively reached for the gun in his pants pocket. Then he halted.
