Chapter 44: Resignation

After the CEO returned and the crowd dispersed, Bella began writing her resignation letter. According to company policy, she had to wait a month after submitting the resignation to leave. Emily, her direct supervisor, would handle the report. Last time, Calvin embarrassed her, so maybe Emily wanted her gone sooner. What reason should she give for resigning?

Fiona, seeing Bella struggling, scornfully suggested, "Who cares why you resign? They won't bother to keep a dispensable employee like you. Just say you're pregnant and want to stay home." The company would prefer pregnant employees to resign, saving them money.

Bella hesitated. She didn't want to lie like that, but couldn't think of a good reason. Fiona was right; no one cared why she resigned, especially since Emily knew the real reason. Fine, she'd say she was pregnant. Meanwhile, Fiona grumbled about an expensive meal while filling out an expense report.

"Expensive restaurants are normal," Bella retorted. She hadn't eaten mu
