“Valerian!” a cry came from outside and my feet rushed to the door, my body having recognised the voice before my brain could comprehend what was happening. I yanked the door open and almost broke down crying at the sight before me, “Queen Lyla!” Bethany gasped from behind me. I scooped her into my arms, my eyes searching for any unwanted presence before rushing her into the living room. “Valerian put me down, we don’t have much time!” she rushed out the command as she struggled to get down. Silently obeying, I put her down, taking note of how she looked and it wasn’t pretty. Her hair, that was always neatly made, looked like a bird’s nest; twigs and leaves hanging from the knots. Her long white sleeping robe dirty and bloody from her waist down, she looked a royal mess; with a bunch of blankets wrapped around her upper half. “My Queen, what happened?” Beth asked as she handed me my medicine bag.

Prologue
Valerian’s pov I rushed into my home as the wind picked up rather rapidly and the sky was darkening quite fast; it looked like there was going to be a big storm. ”This can’t be a good sign” my wife said looking out the kitchen window. A sudden storm on a day like this is never a good sign but we had to be hopeful, the queen was in labour. “I know love, but we must have faith in the Goddess” I said, hugging her from behind. “It should have been you! Everyone knows it should have been you delivering that baby!” she huffed, leaning her back into me. I could feel her worry, and it took everything in me to not succumb to my own. “The King knows best love” I said, rubbing my hands up and down her arms, hoping that was at least enough to calm her a little, but my efforts did nothing to soothe her, not even a little. She pulled away from my embrace and took a few steps away; throwing the dish rag she’d been using to wipe the counter into the empty sink. “The King is a fool!” she ye

Nightmares
Alari’s pov A sudden rush of air blew past me, chilling me to bone. And why is it so dark, I never sleep with my light off!I looked around frantically, trying to figure out where the hell I was; only to realise I was in the middle of the freaking woods! Did I sleep walk again? How did I even end up here? Oh Goddess, am I lost? But, why does this place feel so familiar? “Valerian!” a woman’s cry pulled me out of my thoughts, making me turn around just in time to see a small cabin materialize out of thin air. The door swung open and tall man came into view. He looked vaguely familiar but I couldn’t make out his face, it’s almost like his face was blurred so I couldn’t tell who it was. The man picked up the woman and brought her inside the cabin while I stood there contemplating whether I wanted to follow or not; but then again, what could possibly go wrong? It’s not like I’m in the middle of the forest with cabins popping up out of thin air and zero memory of how I get here. St

Two woman cleaning crew
Alari‟s pov I quickly wolfed down my breakfast and washed my plate so I could leave the house. As much as I hated the pack house, it was a better trade than staying here in this awkward tension. “See you guys later” I said as I kissed them goodbye. “Have a good day honey” dad said as I dashed out of the kitchen towards the front door. “I‟ll try” I said grabbing the door knob and twisting it open. My hand moved up before I could catch the movement with my eyes, saving me from getting hit in the face. “Oh Goddess, I'm so sorry” Pearl, my best friend, well, maybe my only friend; shrieked with eyes wide open. I sighed, letting go of the hand that almost hit me. “I swear I was just trying to knock” she rushed out almost panicked, making me smile at how cute she was. “Don‟t sweat it babe” I said with a small chuckle, watching her exhale in relief. “How did you even do that?! That was some quick reflex action!” she practically yelled as we walked away from the door, fascination rep

Mate
Xavier’s pov Forever seems to be the right word for how long I’ve been gone from home. Five whole years without seeing my parents and the pack and today was finally the day I would set foot on the lands that would soon be mine. “I swear the air is even sweeter” said Jackson, my best friend and Beta, sniffing outside the window. “Sure is buddy” I said, taking a deep breathe, driving past the all too familiar trees of my pack. Fuck I missed this place. “I get that you’re excited to be home but don’t lie” Lilly laughed from the back seat and Jackson whipped around to look at her. “You act like you weren’t jumping for joy when we were at your pack!” he exclaimed, making her laugh harder and shake her head. “At least I didn’t lie about the air being sweeter!” she said back, making me smile at how good she got along with Jackson, being my girlfriend and definitely future Luna. We met at the council compound five years ago and became friends instantly. As the only child and heir to he

Rejection
Alari’s povI could hear the distant chatter, laughter, happiness; and I could feel the pack’s excitement through the pack bond, our Alpha was finally home.Forced to keep out of sight, Pearl and I stayed in the kitchen, doing whatever we were told to do to make sure the Alpha’s return was a great one. Of course we wanted to be there but being the runts of the pack, our presence would sour the mood and as much as I hated this pack, some part of me wanted to please my Alpha.I don’t know if it was all the excitement in the air but my wolf was present as well, I could feel her, stronger than ever and it gave me a sense of normalcy; like I finally belonged in his pack.“Why aren’t we allowed to have lunch with the pack? It’s a special occasion, everyone should be welcome!” Pearl said through gritted teeth with a hint of sadness mixed with anger, and she was right, we should be at that table as well, we’re also part of the pack for Goddess sake.“We’ll see the Alpha tomorrow at the ascen

Outcast
Alari’s povI pulled myself off the floor, wincing and moaning at the pain coursing through my body, no one ever told me a rejection hurt this much; but it’s not every day a wolf rejects their mate.Dragging myself into the bathroom, I looked at my reflection and broke my own heart. My eyes were swollen and red, my face pink and tear stained, I looked like shit and felt even shittier. Loud, joyous laughter filtered in through the open window and my heart twisted in envy and anger; they were enjoying themselves and here I was breaking. My own mate is out there having the time of his life!I washed my face, trying to look as presentable as possible and steeled my aching heart. I knew the risk of going out there, I knew the rejection that was waiting for me; I’d seen and felt it all my life but I needed to be strong. I couldn’t let them keep treating me this way; I had to show him that I could stand up for myself.I wiped my face with a towel and walked out, squaring my shoulders, menta

Broken Bond
Xavier’s pov“Take back the rejection! Go back to our mate, she hasn’t accepted, she can still forgive us!” Asher growled and yelled at me, making my head pound even harder than it already was. “What’s done is done; I’m not taking it back. Get over yourself!” I growled back, walking out of the pack house. I pushed him to the back of my mind with a lot of effort and put a smile on my face as my pack turned to greet me. Lilly was standing next to Jackson and my parents, whatever she was talking about making her eyes sparkle as she smiled but her shine had lost its effect on me, it just wasn’t as appealing anymore. But it didn't matter, it would all fall back into place once Alari accepted the rejection and I mark Lilly as my Luna. Asher will have no choice but to love her too. “Alpha” pack members choruses as I walked past, bowing their heads in respect and I nodded in response, shoulders straight and head high as I approached Lilly, Jackson and my parents. Lilly latched onto me th

Miserable existence
Alari's povIt was the sound of yelling that pulled me out of my deep slumber, as unpleasant as it was.“It shouldn't have happened in the first place Beth! She deserves to be happy too!” I heard my father yell at my mother. “If all he cares about is power then he doesn't deserve her!” My mother yelled back and I felt tears sting my eyes. Xavier, he rejected me…Tuning out the yelling in the house, my mind wondered over everything that happened yesterday, tears streaming down my face. How could the Goddess be so cruel? What did I ever do to anyone to deserve such pain? Why curse me this way? Don't I deserve to be happy?I can't remember the last time I smiled genuinely, truly laughed or even allowed myself to even dream of a happy life. Was this miserable existence all I was born for? To be a slave to a pack that only saw me as garbage? Why me?! Goddess why me? I cried until my eyes stung, until I physically couldn't cry anymore. All I could do was feel my heart break over and

Give her the world
Damien's pov“How much longer?!” I asked, my Lycan pushing to be let out. I couldn't stand it any longer, I had to get out of this tin can!I hated small spaces, I hated feeling trapped and right now, I couldn't even breathe!“About thirty minutes my King” Lucien, my childhood friend and beta snickered, amused at my inability to stay in a car longer than five minutes without wanting to trash it. “I'm glad my discomfort pleases you” I grunted, breathing deeply, as if the action would calm my Lycan but no, he was getting angrier by the second. “I enjoy every second of your misery” he said with a wicked smile, his eyes not once leaving the document he'd been looking at for the past hour. “Find anything interesting yet?” I asked, hoping to take my mind off the trapped feeling that was slowly driving me mad. “Seems the young Alpha may have Lycan DNA, and if these scores haven't been altered, it's more than likely his Lycan gene is dormant but definitely th

You're Luna Queen material
Alari's povI could hear the whispers but I just couldn't bring myself to care, this scent was all I could focus on and so I kept breathing it in.And it kept getting stronger, like it was getting closer! I heard a few gasps and felt my wolf push forward, it was only then that I opened my eyes and came face to face with perfection. Who was this Adonis standing before me? Clad in a black suit and white shirt, filling it out with his muscular build. He had the body of a warrior! His silky looking hair was combed neatly to the side, putting his face on display. He looked like a model, straight off the runway with a perfectly symmetrical face. Thick eye brows and lashes to match, his brown eyes had specs of gold which sparkled as he kept his gaze on me. Wait, why was he looking at me like that? Why was I looking at him like my world started and ended with him? “MATE!” The scream nearly left me deaf and it took me a moment to realise it was my wolf!
