The Hybrid and the Lycan

The man sat in his chair in his office waiting for the youngsters to wake up. When they did, he shut the large book on his desk and smiled at them as he said, “Good morning,”

Nina who was the first to wake up, stood on her feet and asked, “Where the hell are we?”

“Did you drug us?” Emily asked as she too tried to get up but her legs were far too weak.

Avery was helped up by Derek while Michael helped Emily up. The two boys were a lot more cautious with their words this time. He was clearly a powerful and dangerous man and they didn’t want to get themselves into any more trouble.

“Sorry ladies, I haven’t used my powers in a while, I must have used too much intensity with the glare,” The man said, standing up from his chair. He had his sunglasses on and was dressed in an all-black suit this time.

“Your powers? Your eyes? Wait… your eyes! They were weird yesterday and then I blacked out and now we’re here. What…are you?” Nina asked as she tried to piece things together.

“The proper question is... who am I?” the man said, sitting on his desk with a broad smile that sent chills down their skin.

“ Well then…who the fuck are you? You do realize that you kidnapped a bunch of teenagers right?” Michael said, unable to stand the man’s ego.

“I am Ryan West. Head of Arsen,” the man said with a dramatic pause while they looked at each other in confusion.

“Right, you’re humans. That usually would get a lot of reactions from the wolves.” He said and this time they all exchanged worried glances.

“You are clearly insane dude. You kidnapped us, now you’re talking about powers and wolves? Do you not have anything better to do?” Derek asked angrily.

The man sighed and said, “It’s not night right now and it’s not a full moon either, I would’ve proved it to you,”

“Prove that you’re a psycho?” Emily muttered.

“No, that I’m a wolf,” Ryan said and this time they all looked at each other and erupted in laughter. Ryan seemed to enjoy their disbelief as he smiled at them, watching each of them intently. However, one of them wasn’t laughing. She didn’t even seem like she wanted to be there at all. Ryan kept a watch on her, knowing that the girl must’ve seen something and if he was right, then he had gotten a step closer to achieving his goal.

“Okay, this is actually getting interesting, so…you’re a wolf?” Derek asked and Ryan nodded still smiling at them.

“Okay, prove it. There has to be a way that you can prove it,” Nina said this time as she folded her arms and looked at him.

“I just explained to you all why I can’t prove it,” he said, standing up and fixing his suit.

“Then we will be on our way. This time, don’t you dare try to drug us or any other funny business.” Derek said before he took Avery’s hand and they turned around to leave his office. To their surprise he didn’t stop them, they had almost gotten to the door when they heard a whooshing sound and Ryan was standing right in front of them, blocking the door.

“What the hell?” Derek said, raising his brows in surprise.

“Listen kids I’m sorry for the way I brought you all here against your will but there are certain things that are happening in Crestwood recently and by going to that crypt you have placed yourself at the epicenter. It’s not a coincidence that you all ended up there and it just means that I will need your help in this battle.”

Nina, still dazed by the supernatural speed Ryan had shown was already convinced that Ryan was being genuine. She licked her lips nervously and asked, “ What exactly is going on?”

“Why don’t you all take a seat this will be a long story,” he said. Reluctantly, they all sat down on the empty chairs provided for them while some women entered carrying trays of food.

Ryan watched them eat while he started his storytelling, “ Long ago there was a strong Lycan warrior named –“

“ – how long ago was this?” Emily interrupted as she chewed.

“ It was about a thousand years ago,” Ryan replied while the girl scoffed, “ Yeah right,” before chewing again.

“Just listen, criticism can come after,” Ryan said but she didn’t respond to him. She offered one of her sandwiches to the girl he had noticed was the most reserved of them all. “ Do you want some more Avery?” she said but the girl shook her head, barely touching her food.

“This Lycan warrior was named Rayne,” Ryan continued,” He had fought several battles for the packs he protected but soon tragedy struck as he lost his mate. Rayne became angry, desolate and alone, longing for any kind of companionship to soothe his pain. So he asked the Alphas whose packs he had protected to give him one of their daughters from which he would select his bride. However, they refused. They could see that the loss of his mate was making Rayne weak. These Alphas no longer wanted to be under his rule or guidance as he had now brought them peace. So they abandoned him.

Soon, he grew weaker and he started nearing his death. Feeling despair and betrayed, he vowed to return and said that if they ever needed his help he would never help them unless they grant him his last dying wish – a mate. Soon he died and was buried in the tomb you guys found yesterday.” Ryan said and smiled with satisfaction seeing that no one interrupted him.

“So…we awakened a depressed Lycan warrior who is sappy for love? This is the dangerous guy you almost got me shitting my pants for?” Michael asked, breaking the awkward silence.

“ Oh that…I was just trying to scare you guys, I didn’t get to tell the other dumb kids that line. I figured that I could use it on you guys,”

“ Wait, are you talking about the other high school kids who also found a crypt?” Nina asked and he nodded.

“What happened to them?” Emily asked.

“They were the ones who messed up. I have no idea what led them there but that crypt holds the soul of Rayne’s nemesis, a Vampire-werewolf hybrid named Kai. Now, this guy is literally the devil reincarnated. He is a very dangerous and bloodthirsty killer. Chances are that based on his vampire blood lust he definitely killed them all and is the one responsible for the killings happening in Crestwood right now,” Ryan explained but by now Derek had had enough.

“Look dude, we’ve got school. We can’t sit here and listen to your fables,” Derek stated dryly.

“It’s fine. I’ll release you soon but I just need to add one last information. After that, you can all go home and think about my proposal.”

“ And what exactly is this extra information?” Nina asked.

“Like I said before, the crypt you guys stumbled upon holds the soul of Rayne. He is the only one who can stop this hybrid from wiping out the whole of Crestwood. One of you managed to slightly awaken his spirit but for him to be fully released, he needs the blood of his reincarnated mate,”

“Okay, that sounds hot…” Emily exclaimed while Nina rolled her eyes and said, “Look, Ryan. These people are dead, they’re skeletons by now, how could they be-“

“- Their souls aren’t dead though. All they need is to find their reincarnated body and attach themselves to it. Memories will slowly be transferred to that body and whatever unfinished business they have will be completed,”

“So if I understand you correctly, these two guys who are enemies have been awakened by two different sets of high schoolers and the hybrid one has already broken free and found his reincarnated body?” Emily asked, surprising Ryan who didn’t think she could grasp all the information he just dumped on them, then he nodded in response to her question.

“ Like I said before, one of you almost awakened Rayne but we need to go back again and properly release him. We don’t have much time left. The hybrid could attack any of our loved ones next,” Ryan said.

“None of us can do that. Look, guys let’s just go,” Avery who had been silent the whole time said.

“On the contrary Avery, you’re the one who awakened him. Everything you touched came alive didn’t it?” Ryan said making Avery gulp nervously.

Now that Ryan mentioned it, her friends finally connected the dots and it was indeed Avery who opened the stone door and the tomb! But they knew Avery. She didn’t like trouble or anything out of the ordinary. All this talk about werewolves and hybrids and her being a reincarnated mate was too much for her. Derek, who understood her the most and prioritized her feelings was the one who stepped in.

“Thanks man, but Avery and the rest of us are gonna have to decline your obviously dangerous offer. Guys let's go,” Derek said and without any arguments, they all got up and left.

Days passed and while the friends tried to forget about it, Avery could never forget. The crypt kept calling her and she knew that sooner or later, she would find herself back there again.
