Ema saw his boss calling him, and he had no choice but to pick up the call, he sighed before picking up the call and placing the phone on his left ear “Hello sir,” he said in a solemn voice after picking the call up “Ema, I need you at the office right now. What’s taking you so long? I thought you wanted to grab lunch” Victor asked and Ema squeezed his eyes tightly, he looks at Lila and the thought of leaving her and answering his boss's call was displeasing to him. “I’m sorry sir, I can’t come to the office right now. Lila lost her mom, and I am here with her” Ema said, looking at Lila who was too tired to cry any longer, and she was gently laying on her head on top of Ema’s body. Victor was shocked to hear what Ema said, he was bewildered pondering on what happened after he gave the money Lila needed for the hospital bill. “You should take her to my place right now, I will join her there soon,” Victor said and that got Ema slightly angry. He doesn’t want Victor to be too close
Lila enjoyed the presence of Nana and she didn’t know when she fell asleep on her chest. The next day, she met herself in a room and the first thing she remembered was her mom who died yesterday. She couldn’t cry anymore, but her heart was heavy. Then she remembered that Nana had comforted her last night and she felt grateful for what Nana did. She stood up and went straight to the kitchen, although, it was still early, but she was going to give her an early morning food. She got to the kitchen and thought of what she could prepare to touch Nana’s heart and to also show how much she appreciated the comfort she gave her yesterday. Suddenly, an idea popped out and she decided to make beef stew which she knew Nana would like. After an hour of preparing everything and setting it into a tray, she went upstairs to Nana’s room, and carefully placed the meal at her side table, then she left a letter of appreciation under the tray. She went downstairs and headed towards the door to leave, but
Lila and Victor were shocked, wondering if Nana had really caught on on what was happening. "I know you two really love each other and it's today you really made it visible. I am proud of you guys." Nana said, with a smile on her face.Today was Nana's happiest day as she only dreamed to see this day. She was pleased with the wife Victor married as she was just the kind of girl that would give her peace of mind. Lila and Victor were relieved that Nana didn't know it was a contract marriage that would break off after 6 months. They bade goodbye to Nana and while they were in the car, there was absolute silence, but Lila decided to thank him for the money he gave her at least. Although, she didn't like his guts, but it was expected of her to show that she was grateful. She cleared her throat. "Thank you for the other day. Even if my mom didn't live to do her surgery, at least, she left without medical debts." Lila said, avoiding eye contact with Victor. She noticed he wasn't saying an
The doctor's new decision. Lila slumped on the couch where she had been sitting for the past one hour as her eyes found her mother's figure again. This couch had been her bed for almost 64 hours and even though it wasn't the most comfortable thing in the world, she had grown fond of it. Besides it allowed her sleep so close to her mum and made her available in case something came up. It had been a rough 64 hours for them both, Lila acknowledged as she fluffed the pillow the nurse had given her. A very rough one that could have gone terribly if the results of her mother's diagnosis had been different. The diagnosis wasn't favourable still, she reminded herself as she rested her head on the pillow. No, the doctor had said in very simple words that there was nothing he could do for them because Ellen's case was beyond their control. India. The doctor had mentioned that there lied the solution to their problems. Ellen would have to go to India if she wanted treatment for her illness.
"Marriage? Six months? What are you talking about Mr Fabian?"The lawyer, Mr Fabian scratched his head and looked at his client's grandson. "I'm sorry Mr Williams but Nana clearly stated it here. You can only access your trust fund when you're married and the marriage must be at least 6 months old."Victor Williams gaped and closed his eyes. 'Nana, why did you do this?' "Well I didn't know about this."Mr Fabian gave him a wan smile. "Well it's all here. There's really nothing I can do sir. I'm sorry." "What if I'm engaged, can I access it then?" Why was Nana doing this to him? She knew better than anyone that he didn't believe in love and he never wanted to get married. She was aware of how horrible his parent's marriage had been. What was the need to put this kind of stipulation in place? Why was she trying to force him to settle down at all cost?He didn't have good examples while growing up so what was he supposed to do when he eventually got married? Beat his wife and leave her
Victor Williams walked into the office aware of how quiet everywhere was. He wasn't a monster, at least he didn't think he was but they all treated him as such. He wasn't bothered though, he reminded himself, he was all for it if it'd get the job done. He texted Ema to meet him in his office as he walked past the reception. His office was on the fifth floor which meant he had to use the elevator even though sometimes he opted for the stairs. Elevators weren't his cup of tea and after all the bad news he had heard about it, he didn't want to get trapped in it ever. He was claustrophobic and he couldn't stand it if the elevator were to stop working while he was stuck inside. With that final thought, he took the elevator all the way to his floor. "Victor, welcome." Victor looked up and smiled at his assistant. He knew he stressed Emmanuel a lot but he had never complained. Victor knew how competent he was. "Mr Anderson." Emmanuel was reading out his schedule as he'd usually do bu
Lila raised her head up to look at him wondering why he asking her such personal questions. "I don't think it's any of your business Me Williams. Or don't you agree?" "Please call me Victor, Mr Williams makes me sound older than my age. My father was Mr Williams." Lila rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. She took another sip of her coffee and grimaced. It was tasteless now. She dropped the cup on the desk and leaned back in her seat. "Victor, you haven't answered my question." 'Even the way she says my name is beautiful.' He thought but said instead; "What question, sweetie?" He bit his lip holding back a laugh at the stunned expression on her face at the endearment. "Don't call me that." She gritted her teeth hating how much her heartbeat had picked up because of the endearment. It was just a stupid endearment, why are you affected?"Then what should I call you darling?"Lila shut her eyes and took a deep breath. He was messing with her, of course he was. He was only trying
“Lila?” Emmanuel Anderson asked looking up from the documents he had been going through. His best friend walked into his office and collapsed in the chair across from him looking exhausted. “When was the last time you had a decent night’s rest?” he asked worry dripping from his every word.Lila shrugged her shoulders but didn’t answer his question. “About yesterday,” she started staring at him with hooded eyes. Emmanuel frowned realizing that she was putting up an unreadable face as if she was trying to hide something. Would she really hide anything from him especially after what they’d been through?“It was my fault Lila, I said some mean things.” He ran his hands through his hair. “I should never have said those things to you; it was completely disrespectful of me and insentive.”“I don’t think you were insensitive, if anything you were saying the truth.” She shrugged her shoulders again and Ema frowned. He leaned over the table to touch her forehead. “Are you feeling okay? What
