Chapter 23

AMELIA POV

I stop in a convenience store outside the hospital. I need to find out where I am.

The store is old but clean. The lady behind the counter doesn't even look up from her magazine when the bell dings over the door. I guess customer service isn't one of her main priorities.

"Excuse me, do you have maps here," I ask.

Her eyes scream boredom as they stare into mine. "Nope," she says before popping her gum.

"Okay, could you tell me how far from Amarillo I am," I ask, placing my hand on my hip.

This chick is annoying. She has a job. A job in customer service, and she acts like the customer is a nuisance. She clicks her tongue and rolls her eyes.

"You are about 3 hrs north," she answers as if opening her mouth is equivalent to pulling teeth.

I just turn and walk away; screw this girl. I spend the next fifteen minutes in a Walgreens down the street. The lady there is extremely helpful, and she tells me which highway runs directl
