Chapter Forty-Four
Caleb-
The Alpha of Crescent Moon pack had insisted I spend the night, along with the others in my group, so we could attend the ceremony in the morning, I wasn’t going to protest. It gave me more time to see what I can find out about what was going on. I still didn’t sense Kyra, but something definitely seemed off here.
I had expected Hunter to show up by now, but I hadn’t heard from him, I had tried to link him to see if he was close, but it was a no-go. Pulling out my phone, I sent him a text.
Me: Where are you?
Hunter: Plane went down in Ohio.
Me: Shit. Everyone okay?
Hunter: Yes, we have to rent a car, no one has a plane around here we can rent, and no flights to Maine for two days. Rented a car, on our way. Anything on your end?
Me: No sign of Kyra, but something seems off here. I can’t explain it. Oh and there is a ceremony in the morning, don’t know what is for, but was invited to stay until then. Going to see what more

Caleb- The moment has arrived. Kyra gave a subtle nod, and I knew she had enough of the drug out of her system now. Just in the nick of time too, the Alpha had started the ceremony and was just about to mark her, I leaped up onto the alter and rammed into his side, causing him to crash onto the ground. Aiden, Kelly, and Shawn had positioned themselves to stand in front to keep anyone from interfering. “She is not yours!” I bellowed, just before my clothes shredded from my body and I shifted into my wolf. Kyra- “There has to be something you can do.” I pleaded with the doctor as soon as we were in the vehicle. Caleb was laying with his head on my lap, while the doctor was trying to stop the bleeding, and stitch him up at the same time. Hunter was driving and his Gamma and Brett were in the vehicle as well, everyone else ran on foot to the nearest town to rent another vehicle, there just wasn’t enough room for everyone. Kyra- We were back on the road, this time with me in the front with Hunter. I had explained to him what had happened, and he didn’t say a word about it. Just told us all to get back in the car so we can put more miles between us and Maine. I didn’t know what was going on in his head, he hasn’t said a word to anyone since we got back on the road. Hunter- The entire way home, my emotions were in a spiraling mess. I was relieved she was safe, I was angry she left, I was happy to have her back, I was annoyed that she was now bonded with Caleb and Brett, I was confused about her sudden change in demeanor, mostly I was pissed that I didn’t know if I had killed the Alpha of Crescent Moon. Kyra- Minutes ticked by and Hunter still hadn’t responded, I was beginning to think that maybe he no longer wanted to be my mate after everything I had done. I mean, not that I would blame him. Hunter- It has been nearly a week since I got Kyra back and as much as I would like to say that it has been the greatest week of my life, I’d be lying. It has been complete Hell. Every time Kyra falls asleep, she is hit with nightmares so intense that I haven’t been able to sleep. Not to mention I have been woken up by a fire starting on the bed, twice. We have tried many things to try to ease her so she could get some rest, I have even let Caleb and Brett sleep in the room with us, just not on the bed. Kyra- Excitement ran through every fiber of my body, I had been planning this surprise all day. I just hoped Hunter liked it. I mean it wasn’t exactly anything extravagant, but I was proud of it. With Anna’s help, I spent all day in the kitchen trying to learn how to make chili, which I found out from Hunter’s mother, that it was his favorite.
