3. De ja vu

"Which one should I wear, dad?" I asked, showing him the navy blue, grey and black dresses, from the entrance of the kitchen.

"Black! Black is your color, darling."

I ran back to my room and wore the dress. After doing my makeup to look professional, I went back downstairs, satisfied with myself.

"Eat up!" He said putting a plate in front of me of, wait what is that?

Pancakes?

Oh god! He is as bad at cooking as me, if not more.

I mustered the courage to eat this, I can't even say pancakes. "Dad! Is this pancakes?"

"Oh no darling! It's fried egg with bacon, didn't you notice?"

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

"Oh shit, I am late. Why don't you finish this? I will eat something on the way." I promised.

"But-" I gave him my best ' I can't eat this ' look. "Fine but promise me you will eat something."

"I already did," I got up, gave him a kiss on the cheek.

"Bye pops!"

"Okay, bye baby! Best of luck."

I left excited about this interview. I just recently completed my degree after turning eighteen.

My dad needs me to get this job. He never lets me know, but I do, he needs someone to help him pay the bills, to just be there for him, supporting him.

I reached the building and told the receptionist that I was here for the interview. She told me that I could go to the 2nd floor. I got in the elevator and the door was closing but someone stopped it with a foot. The elevator door opened to reveal a man.

A very handsome man if I do say so myself. He had beautiful grey eyes and black hair. He looked like he just came out of a photoshoot.

Wow, even the people working in this office are pretty handsome. That lower my chances of ever working here!

This is not called self deprecating. This is just self awareness.

I waited for him to get in.

"Out!"

Um, what the hell? You fudger, I got here first!

So, I stayed there.

"Um, I think two can take an elevator."

"I don't like repeating myself. Out!"

"... Um, you just did repeat yourself."

"You-" I checked the time on my watch.

I don't have time for this! I pressed the second floor button and before he could stop the elevator, it closed in his face.

Well, technically I did offer him to go with me so this isn't my fault.

I sticked my tongue out at him from the glass doors of the elevator, as it was going up.

Childish? I know! Do I care? No.

Jerk, that's what he was. Such a waste of a handsome face. I rolled my eyes at him and went to the room where the interview was suppose to happen.

"Vivianna, right?"

"Yes."

"Show me your files," I passed him my files. We were in the middle of our interview when the door opened.

"Give me the files about the Williams," The guy said.

"Yes boss!"

He started looking for the files.

I cleared my throat for some odd reason getting nervous.

"The interviews are still going on? Who is she?" The guy who had just entered the room asked. I got up quickly and, guess what yup, I made a fool out of myself, as my bag fell.

Oh god!

What the hell is wrong with me?

I ignored my bag and turned around, "My name is Vivia-" The rest of my sentence died in my throat. The same handsome devil.

What was he doing here?

I froze.

***

I froze.

I blinked, I even pinched my arm. Ow! It was reality.

It all felt like de ja vu.

"Viola?" He asked in disbelief.

I heard shuffling in the background but didn't turn around, both of us ignored the sound, "Send some popcorns in my office right now," Adrian said. Seriously, this guy.

"What are you-? Are you here for me?" He asked with so much hope in his voice.

I held myself back from rolling my eyes. Seriously? When I told him I was leaving, he didn't even stop me. Not once! And now he thinks I am here for him.

"No! I didn't know you were here. What are you even doing here?" I asked.

"I was here to tell Adrian that I am leavin-"

"No, I mean here. As in New York?"

"Oh, well I came here for some business but, I won't lie to you, I heard you were here and wanted to find you."

Well about time, isn't it? I wanted to scream at him for not stopping me, for taking so long in coming here but another thought came to mind.

"You are here for the baby, aren't you? You want to take him away from me," I was getting closer to the door just some more steps, "... you were the one who called me today at morning, weren't you?"

"What the hell are you talking about? What call?"

"Don't act like you don't know anything! We both know you called me or was it one of your men?" Just three more steps and I can run back to my baby.

"Viola, no I didn't call you. I arrived a week ago and someone told me that you were here, so I was going to start looking for you today and about the baby, he is my baby too. Is it a girl or a boy?"

Of course I knew that he wasn't the caller because the calls were coming for more than one month but I was buying myself some time to run. And my plan worked I opened the door and ran.

I ran to the staircase and then down. I heard some quick footsteps behind me but didn't even look back and ran. I reached the last stair, out of breath, but I wasn't going to repeat the mistake I made 3 years ago of stopping to take a breath. I ran, and people were staring at me, now.

My exit was in front of my eyes, the double doors, I just had to run past the doors and then I was free. I did exactly that, but before I could run away I stopped and looked behind me, he was on the last stair. "It's a boy, you were right." I told him, and ran past the double doors, this time no one was following me.

I ran to a taxi and told him my address. I got home and opened the front door to see my friends arguing about who was better at being a babysitter. I would have enjoyed it if the circumstances were different, "Where is Aaron?" I asked Anna and Sam.

Sam was quick "Oh! It's you, you are home early. He is in the room sleeping, said that he needed to be wide awake when Oli came."

"I still don't understand how you can talk to him! I mean the kid can't even speak." Anna gave her a questioning look.

"It's a rare talent, babe."

And that was when I stopped listening to them and started walking towards our room. He was soundly sleeping in his crib. I walked up to him and picked him up and he started moving but adjusted and continued sleeping soundly.

"You know, I saw your d-dad today. He was looking like he wasn't doing fine, he wanted, needed, to see you." I told his sleeping figure, "I did it for him. I did it for you. I just need to believe that."

But even I knew not all of it was true.
