The divorce

"How did this happen?" Tessa said to herself as she hurriedly drove her car out of the company's parking lot and in half an hour she pulled up at the hospital.

She grabbed her bag as she stepped out of her car and locked the doors before walking into the hospital. When she stepped in, she made her way to a lady sitting behind a counter.

"I'm Mrs. Taylor, can I know the ward Mr Taylor is visiting?." She told her.

"Ward 25" The lady replied pointing down the hallway.

"It won't be long and she won't have to answer that name again." She muttered as she walked into the ward.

She saw Henry seated at the edge of the bed and when she walked closer, there was Elena lying on the bed with liquids running down into her hands and beeping machines around her.

"The doctor said she was lucky enough to be alive but she lost the baby." He said.

"That's so sad…" Tessa said. She knew she hated Elena but she felt sorry she almost lost her life.

"Did you do it Tessa?" Henry said as he looked up at her. Tessa stiffed and her jaw dropped when she heard the question.

"Did you really think I did it? Why would I do it?" Tessa asked, confused.

"You hate her so much that you even wanted her dead?" Henry snapped angrily.  "Who would it be if it wasn't you?

"You were the only one that stepped into that kitchen while she cooked. You had probably planned to end us both." Henry slammed his hands on the table beside Elena's bed making Elena jerk a little.

"You can't accuse her, Henry." Elena said weakly. Henry turned to her looking at her with love in his eyes as he brushed her hair to the side.

She felt anger as she looked at them. "You will one day find out Henry didn't do anything Henry!" Tessa said as she brought out the resignation letter and slammed it on the table next to him.

"Tell your mother she doesn't have to worry again. I resign!" She walked out as Henry picked it up to read.

She had something else to do now, she drove to meet her lawyer and she had the divorce paper prepared in a jiffy while her lawyer looked at her baffled.

"I don't want any of his property," she said.

"Don't you think you can sort whatever the problem is with him?" Mrs Owen, her lawyer said. Tessa shook her head as she took the divorce paper from her.

"He just needs to sign now." She said as she signed at the bottom of the page.

Scrolling through her phone as she sat in the living room until Henry walked in. She looked up at him.

"You aren't here with your mistress?" She snapped. Henry looked up at her, surprised to see her sitting there like she was waiting for him.

"You don't question me!" He said as he walked past her. "Elena will move here in two days." He added.

"Here is the divorce paper." She stood up as she handed him the paper. He took it from her and scanned through it. "You think you're always above everyone. What do you think you can do without me? How will you survive?" He asked.

"You shouldn't bother just signing it." She rolled her eyes. She really wanted to leave quickly.

"For many years I built everything we owned with you." Tessa said as she clenched her fist in a fit of regret.

"You were meant to do that for me!" Henry said as he slammed the paper on the table.

He took the paper from her and signed the divorce. Then handed it to her, "You can leave now!" He said and she walked out. She was finally free like a bird from the toxic marriage.

She walked into the hotel room pulling her box behind her. She had left the house immediately and booked a ro for the night. The next morning she was leaving for Florida.

After a few hours of settling in suddenly the door flew open and about three men entered. They were all wearing black masks and that covered their faces.

She was terrified as she took a step back. "Who are you? How did you get here?" She asked as she glanced at their hands. They were armed with guns.

"You don't want to make this hard for us right?" One of them said with a hoarse voice as he walked up to her he raised the gun and brought it down hitting her at the back of her end making her collapse.

…..

"The baby is fine," Henry said as he held Elena's hands who looked at him weakly.

"The baby is fine?" Elena's eyebrows pressed together as her heart began to race.

"We were lucky enough and it didn't affect the baby, just a few more days and you will be discharged." Henry said with a smile.

"Th.. that's good," Elena forced a smile.

Suddenly Henry's phone began to ring and she looked the other way. "This is bad," she whispered as her face turned pale.

"An unknown number?" Henry muttered as he glanced at his phone. He picked up the phone and accepted the call when a hoarse voice sounded from the other end.

"Hello Mr. Henry, we have your wife with us. If you want her, prepare 1 million dollars cash." The voice from the other end said. Henry frowned as he stood up from the side of the bed.

"What's going on?" Elena asked weakly as she turned to look at him.

"Tessa was kidnapped and the kidnappers are requesting 1 million dollars or she will be killed." Henry said as his face darkened.

Elena turned lips curved into a smile but she immediately turned serious as she pressed her eyebrows together and grabbed his hands, "Don't fall for that my love." She spoke slowly and Henry leaned closer.

"What do you mean?" Henry asked, his tone a bit rushed. His hands were already wet with sweat as he imagined what might happen to Tessa should anything go wrong.

"She is a gold digger! Hasn't she played you as a fool long enough? This is definitely another plot. We shouldn't fall for it this time." She said as she looked into Henry's eyes.

"Feels right," Henry paused for a moment and thought about it.

Although he felt things were deeper than he thought, he felt his pride as a man being trampled after being played by a woman many times.

He picked up the phone and yelled into it. "I won't be falling for your tricks so I won't be paying a dime." He said as he hung up.

"That was simpler than I thought." She muttered as a mischievous smile crept up her lips while Henry had his back facing her.

…..

The boss frowned and his two other lackeys turned to look at him. "what happened boss?" They asked.

"This is bad, Mr. Taylor has refused to pay the ransom." He turned to look at Tessa as he placed his gun on the table.

"This wasn't what was planned but I wasn't the one that betrayed you." He smirked.

"Before killing you to teach Taylor a lesson." I will do something first he said as he took off his shirt revealing his well toned muscles.

Tessa began to struggle with the ropes as she was gagged but she mumbled out a few words. "Boss, looks like she has something to say." One of the masked men pointed.

"You want to say something?" He leaned forward as he removed the cloth from her mouth. She gasped for air as she looked at him.

"I have an offer for you." She said looking into his eyes.

"What is your offer? You better don't joke with me," He said, brandishing his gun at me.
