Chapter 48

TRISTIAN'S POV

I was sipping the coffee I had ordered from room service when Jean, my personal guard burst into my room, his gun at the ready. The alarm and panic in his eyes died down as soon as he saw that I was okay, then he leaned against the door, his head in his hands.

He pocketed the revolver, finally mustering the courage to look at my face.

“Good morning sir.”

I tried to smile even though I didn't feel like it, even though my lips refused to budge. I sipped my coffee, then glanced at the sorry face he was making, his eyes refusing to meet mine.

“Good morning Jean. What happened to my room yesterday, Jean? I came in to find my door open, and a woman inside, waiting for me. How is that possible when I left you in charge of the door for only a few hours.”

He scratched the back of his neck, and I could see that he was at loss at what to say for the meantime. Adjusting, he cleared his throat as if he had eventually found what he wanted to say.
