Dmitri didn't come home that night.

Even though he had returned a few minutes after he'd gone after Samantha and stood by Trinity's side for the rest of the night, he'd been distant. He was right there next to her the whole time, but at the same time, he wasn't. It wasn't that he was acting weird, but the difference was there and only someone who knew him closely could tell. The shift was much too subtle but it was there in the way his smile didn't reach his eyes or the way his laugh sounded almost plastic.
