Sixteen

Alicia's POV

Whoever invented the word 'takeout' or whoever invented the method 'takeout' is the one person I'm grateful for at this moment. I was so hungry that as soon as I took the first bite, I could swallow a cow afterward.

When I left home this morning, I didn't eat anything, and several hours spent in grandma's home didn't bring out any food. I was even too nervous to eat. I don't think I enjoy the idea of a large family even though so many people do anyway. The glares, the backbiting, and the random confrontation are not stuff I look up to every now and then.

Nathan had asked me if I wanted the takeout he got and I declined at first, telling him I wasn't hungry. I was too embarrassed to face him after I'd cried like a baby in his presence but what I wasn't ready for was the second embarrassment that came when my stomach growled after I'd told him I wasn't hungry.

He gave me the hot sandwiches and hot coffee and I downed two in a few minutes.

"When was the last time you ate?"
