Chapter 3

Eloise cried out loudly as she fell into the ravine.  But she was wide awake when she felt the pain in her back and head from the fall.

 "Ouch ... Ouch ..."

Eloise moaned loudly in pain as she fell to the ground.  She rubbed the back of her head.  Again a dream interrupts her silence.  But in the same situation and one soul.  She immediately got up and went back to bed.  She glanced at her sister who sleep soundly. Likewise, she closed her eyes again but opened them again when she heard the roar of the dogs.

She glanced at the clock and felt it was late at night.  It was exactly twelve in the midnight.  She knew dogs could see lost souls.  Perhaps this is what dogs bark at.  At such times, the negative elements begin to circulate.

She covered her ears to lessen the roar of the animal outside their hut. She thinks that the dogs were in their yard because of their close and loud barking.

They don't have dogs, but that's how surprised her, is to have dogs barking outside.  Twenty minutes later, the dogs outside were still barking.  That was only Eloise's estimate because she was counting while covering her ears. She couldn't sleep and just got up to rebuke the dogs outside.  She had to drive them away, so she could sleep well.

And she was about to open the door when the dogs suddenly stopped barking. Just, she scratched her head because she felt like they were teasing her.  And she went back to bed to sleep again.  And when she closed her eyes a second time, she heard a moaning voice.

But she covered her ears again and didn't want to hear the strange voice.  But the uplifting feathered voice seemed to whisper in her ear.  And she tried to get it out of her mind, even though she could clearly hear it.

"Aahhh ... Please help me! Take me out here!"

Eloise pretended that she had heard nothing, she felt a cold air caressing her skin.  Her feathers stood up.  She felt her hanging upside down, with the feeling that even the hairs had stood up as well.  She tightened her grip on the pillow and tried to ignore whatever she was felt.

"Eloise! Eloise ... Help me, bring me up to where I am!"

Eloise flinched at the seeming whisper of a voice.  The voice seems to be coming from underground.  When Eloise sat down, she had difficulty sleeping even though something was bothering her.  Her eyes darted all around at their parents' small room.  She doesn't see any ghost soul.  But the voice she hears does not stop.

She got up again and looked for the female ghost.  Eloise knew it owned the voice.  She searched inside their house but could not find it.  She was shaken and thought it might be just a hallucination.  Furthermore, she turned to lie down again and went to sleep.

Again and again, Eloise heard the sound and the door open and closing.  And before she could look up, she smelled the candles just lit.  Her recollection was that they had no candles in the house.  They have always used a lamp as a light at night.

The candle lit she had smells was as strong as if it was just next to her.  She tries to ignore the noticeable thing.  She leaned to the left side and hugged Elena.  Likewise, she wanted to sleep as soundly as her sister, but she couldn't.

At the age of twenty, she just now disturbed by this.  Coincidentally, her parents were also absent.  It seemed like a curse had landed on their family.  She wonders again when it just started.  In her confused mind, she remembered the father who had burned a photo.

That day she saw her father Fernand who burning many things. Eloise, ignored it, but when her father left, she looked at it.  A piece of paper and pictures burned.  But there was one photo not exhausted in the fire,  There was still half of it, and she kept it.

Only since then, she started to have a dream that was strange at the same time the female soul asking for help.  There she thought that the soul seemed to be asking for justice.  But she wondered how she could help it, even though she didn't have even a shred of evidence.

The next morning, a cold day came into their lives.  There is no certainty in the future how they will survive.  Eloise wakes up, and the sun is high.  It will penetrate the opening of their wall.  She looks for Elena, but it was no longer by her side.  Before she got up and listened first around.

Clinking plates and spoons she could be heard outside the room.  She slowly got up to peek at what Elena was doing.  But she felt dizzy.  It looks like her head is heavy, and her eyes are spinning.  Probably an effect of not sleeping well the night before.

She lay down again and closed her eyes. She knew, she lacked of sleep as much as she thought.  But how can she get out of the situation if it is spontaneously approaching?  Will she still be able to escape the ghost that trouble her?

 "Good morning!"

A sweet voice greeted her, and it was gentle and polite. Eloise slowly open her eyes, see her boyfriend face with fresh appearance.  George's hair was still wet, as if it had just been bathed.  Eloise looked at the clock, but she shocked to see that it was nine o'clock in the morning.

"Shit! Elena, why didn't you wake me up?"

She jumped on the bed when she realized that it was too late. Even though she couldn’t see the sister next door, she deliberately shouted her question.  She doesn’t do of waking up at noon. It was all because of the things that were bothering her, that was what caused her to wake up at noon.

"I don't have a heart if I wake you up with a good sleep," Elena replied.

"Don't scold Elena yet. You seem to be lacking in sleep because your eye bags are turning black," George said.

"I'm embarrassed because it's late. I need to find a job for Elena and me to survive," he said.

That was Eloise's plan.  But he did not know where she would seek a job that would suit her time. She could not let her sister left alone, her sister is even more important to her, and it has nothing to guide Elena.

"Don't think about that. Mommy said if your parents haven't come back, you'll be at home every day. She said you can help her planted flowers i our garden. She'll pay you, so you won't have to look for another job everywhere, "George said.

"Really! I would be embarrassed just because I have no other choice. Elena and I need to survive daily," she replied to her boyfriend.

“Before you dramatize there, come and let's have breakfast. Thereafter,, we'll have something to talk about,” George said and pulled her to the table.

For a moment, Eloise forgot what was troubling her mind.  She also wants to talk to her boyfriend about it. But she wanted to see the old lady doctor. She wants to stop down the peculiarity to distance herself from the negative elements.  The frightening things that happen every night are also intensifying.

After, their breakfast, Eloise invited George to talk outside. And Elena busy cleaning in their kitchen. Eloise deliberately did not let the sister know about what they were talking about.

"Who will be the first of us to open the discussion?"  Eloïse asked her boyfriend.

"Ahm, ladies first!"  George replied smiling.

“I would like to ask you to go to the old lady doctor, you say. I am not slept properly, and the disturbance intensifies every time the dark night come.”

Eloise sighed and was a little hesitant about what to do.  But she needs to find out why, in the twenty years she has been seeing the negatives elements, she is just now being interrupted by them.

“Is that reason why you woke up late? What do you notice every night?”  George asked seriously.

"Many things I heard like voices, strange sound around. I smelled candles, even when no one lit them. Dog roars at night and also nightmare,” she replied.

“Do you pray every night? Maybe your faith in God has weakened, so souls are approaching you now!”

Eloise nodded softly. She knew her faith in God had not changed, even despite the family problems she faced.  George also knows how to approach people who are discouraged or depressed in life.

"I still haven't forgotten to call on our God. I have grown up, and I will never renounce faith in him. It's just that there is a reason and that's what I want to know,” said Eloise.

“Are you confident? Are you ready for the revelation that you can find out? My knowledge of such things has a substitute. It could be your life or the life of one of your family,” George said.

Eloise, wondered if she could afford to sacrifice one of her family.  But what if her life was the substitute?  She sighed again.  But she immediately asked the boyfriend how it knew.

"How do you know such a thing?"  Eloise asked.

George was a high school teacher in their town.  Coincidentally, it was a vacation, so he has time to accompany them.  But Eloise still couldn't quite imagine that her boyfriend knew much about such things.

"I met some students then had that same problem. So, I hear a lot that is almost similar to your problem now," George replied.

“I just want to know the root of the problem I’m facing,” she said.

"How's your sister? Shall we take her?"

"No! Elena doesn't know anything about this yet. I don't want her to be scared or worried about me. At her young age, I want to avoid giving her worries in life. She's not yet strong enough to face the problems of life," Eloise replied immediately.

"Okay, I understand. This is how I'm going to talk to Mommy that Elena will be at home while you're away. I'll go with you to the doctor to help you with your problem," George said calmly.

Even though Eloise's problem had not been resolved, she felt a little relief.  George's help was a big deal for her.  She also can't imagine how her sister and she, would be when George wasn't in their lives ...
