My New Life

I couldn't believe that I was really here, living among Lycans. I had heard stories about their society, but experiencing it firsthand was a whole different ball game for me.

It sounded more like a joke to know that I was now living in the pack as Liams' breeder. The rules and customs of the werewolf society were completely foreign to me, and I felt like I was constantly walking on eggshells.

As the days went on, I did my best to adapt. I spent my days assisting Annel, the new and only friend I had made here since my arrival, in her duties, and in my free time, I tried to learn as much as I could about the pack's traditions and cultures. However, it wasn't easy. There were so many unwritten rules and expectations that I struggled to keep up with each day.

I was walking through the pack's headquarters when I saw a man walking towards me. He had a stern look on his face, and his eyes seemed to be analyzing every inch of me. I recognized him as Harvey Orlan, Liams' beta. I had heard someone mention his name before.

"Who are you?" he asked, his voice cold and accusatory.

"I'm Dresh," I replied, trying to stay calm. "I'm the Lycan King's breeder." Who dared to address the Alpha by his first name before his Beta? I forced out a smile.

Harvey continued to stare at me, and I felt myself shrinking under his gaze. "I don't trust humans," he said finally. Bluntly. "Especially not ones who come to live here with us."

I took a deep breath, trying to maintain a calm demeanor, as I swallowed all traces of my smile. "I understand your concern," I said. "But I'm not like those humans who pose a threat to your pack. I'm here because I have nowhere else to go."

Harvey didn't seem convinced. "We'll see about that." he said, before turning on his heel and walking away.

I sighed, feeling a sense of defeat. It seemed like no matter what I did here, I couldn't win over everyone in the pack. But I wasn't going to let that stop me from trying.

While I was assisting Annel with her duties, I heard a voice that made my heart skip a beat. It was Alpha Liams', and he was asking for me. I nervously made my way to his room, wondering what he wanted.

"Good afternoon, Alpha," my head bowed, looking down to my feet.

"Welcome, Dresh" he said and I lifted my head up to him. His eyes are still glued to his system on his desk. "I want to talk to you about something."

I sat down across from him, trying to keep my nerves in check. "I'm with you, Alpha? You can ask me anything." I replied, fully prepared for the worse.

"I just wanted to let you know that I got some information about you, and now, I'm watching you closely," he said, his eyes locked onto mine as he swiftly swirled his head to my direction. "I know how dangerous humans can be, and I won't hesitate to take action if I sense any threat to my pack."

I felt a lump form in my throat, and I tried to swallow it down. "I understand," I managed to say.

"Good," he replied, leaning back in his chair. "I want to make sure we have a clear understanding. You may be living with us, but you are not one of us. Always remember that."

I nodded, feeling a sense of discomfort settling in my stomach. Despite my efforts to adjust to life in the pack, I knew that I would always be an outsider.

I returned back to Annel after a long conversation with Alpha Liams, and we both sat on the floor of her room, chatting about the pack and its inhabitants. She told me about the hierarchy of the pack and how Alpha Liams was at the top of it all.

"He's not someone to mess with," she said, her voice low. "He may seem so charming and friendly on the surface, but he's got a ruthless streak a mile wide on the inside. He doesn't tolerate any form of disobedience or disrespect. And he can strike when you least expect his wrath. So watch it!"

I nodded, taking in her words in terror. "I'll be careful around him," I promised.

"For your own good." Annel replied, giving me a serious look. "I don't want to see you get hurt. Just keep your head down and do your duties as instructed, and you'll be fine here. Just as I have been doing mine all these years of my stay."

"I will," I nodded, feeling a bit unsettled by her warnings. I had already felt drawn to Alpha Liams, despite my better judgment. But Annel's words made me realize that I needed to be more cautious than I thought.

"You're lucky you're with him, though," Annel said, changing the subject all of a sudden. "He's the strongest and most respected Alpha of all the packs around." She looked at me with a worried expression. "I know that he's been nice to you so far, but, don't let that fool you. He's the Lycan King for a reason, and he can be ruthless when he needs to be."

I frowned, unsure of what she meant. "What do you mean?"

She took a deep breath before answering. "Alpha Liams can be charming when he wants to be, but he's also dangerous. He has killed some werewolves and Lycan in broad daylight for disobeying him, and he won't hesitate to do the same to mere humans if they ever cross his path."

I felt a chill run down my spine at her words. "But I'm not going to do anything to make him angry," I protested.

Annel shook her head. "It's not about making him angry, Dresh. It's about knowing your place here. As a breeder, you're valuable to the pack, but you're still lower in the hierarchy than Liams; an Omega. A slave. That's what it's called. Don't forget that."

I nodded, feeling so frightened now.

Annel's warnings made me realize just how little I understood about the lycan society despite quite the time I've stayed in the pack, learning and trying to understand lots of things about them. As much as I wanted to fit in and make a life for myself here, I knew that I needed to be much more careful than I thought.

"I'll be careful," I promised Annel. "I will do my best to know my place here."

Annel smiled reassuringly at me. "Great. Just remember, you're not one of them. You're a human, just like me. And you need to know that the werewolves' eyes are always on us."
