Chapter 2: The Night Of The Full Moon

On the night of the full moon, Dennis embraced Mary from behind, and the two of them stood by the window, looking up at the sky.

He gently kissed Mary's earlobe and then kissed her cheek affectionately. Mary looked up at the moon, her hands holding her stomach. She prayed that the medicine would help her keep Dennis and the family that she loved so much.

She tilted her head and rubbed her hair against Dennis's cheek and whispered, "I love you."

Dennis smiled and said, "I love you too."

Dennis lifted Mary up and held her in his arms. She was wearing a white silk dress, and he placed her gently on the bed, kissing her for a long time as if he wanted to pour out all his love. Mary hugged Dennis tightly and welcomed his kisses.

"Are you ready?" Dennis asked as he moved his hand down to the wettest part of Mary's body. He answered his own question, "You're ready."

Mary giggled and held Dennis tightly, saying, "Let's do our best together."

Dennis didn't answer, he just kissed her passionately, his lips touching her eyes, nose, forehead, hair, and ears, and finally, he kissed her beautiful face. He whispered by her lips, "Don't be afraid, I'll protect you."

Mary was ready to receive every wave of love from Dennis, sweat dripping down her neck as they intertwined with each other, exchanging all their love, fears, desires, and sincerity.

Dennis was afraid of losing Mary, the closer he got to her, the more he feared losing her. His love was so humble to the point of being selfish. He would rather follow her to heaven or hell than be without her.

Two tears fell from Mary's eyes as she held onto Dennis, experiencing the highs and lows together.

After a deep and passionate love, Dennis slept soundly, his arm still around his small wife in his chest. The moonlight crept through the window, casting a golden and ivory glow on the two of them. Mary cuddled up to her husband, stroking his thick eyebrows, sketching every stroke of affection.

Dennis frowned in his sleep, still searching for his wife's tight embrace.

Mary was truly happy, she was grateful to God for giving her such a wonderful man like Dennis. She knew that she was still lacking and unable to maintain a positive attitude toward the difficulties of life. She made Dennis feel that he could not protect his wife. But what woman is not weak? Sometimes, she wished that he was just an ordinary man so that she could accept her fate of not having children and still live happily with him for the rest of her life.

If only... but life never has "if only!"

In the morning, before Dennis went to work, he hugged Mary goodbye. Mary saw him off until his car left, and then she went back inside.

The door beeped open, Mary was washing fruit in the kitchen when she suddenly wiped her hands on her apron and ran to the living room.

A middle-aged woman dressed elegantly, with a meticulously made-up face, looked at Mary with no emotion on her face, her eyes lingering on Mary's stomach. Mary hesitantly put her hands over her belly.

Mrs. Lauriel sneered, "I came here to tell you something."

Mary didn't dare to sit down, "Yes, mother?"

"We have found a new woman for Dennis, you can still be his wife, but you must not be jealous for no reason. Please advise Dennis to accept the girl we want."

Mrs. Lauriel slowly spoke as she looked at her red nail polish. She didn't need to look at the face of her daughter-in-law, who couldn't bear a child, she just came to inform her decision, not to ask for her opinion.

Tears welled up in Mary's eyes, and her heart ached, but she had no right to resist, only to obey. It was her fault.

"Mother, I will follow your decision." Mary said.

Mrs. Lauriel laughed, "Good, I've bought a house for Dennis and Elsa, you can do as you, please. Dennis is my son, but he didn't listen to his mother when he married you. I don't want to say more."

Mary lowered her head, and Mrs. Lauriel got up. "Would you like some fruit, mother? Let me get it for you."

"No need, let her eat," Mrs. Lauriel said, looking down at Mary. Mary knew it, but she was just a daughter-in-law and dared not argue with her mother-in-law. She only cried when Mrs. Lauriel left. Finally, this day had come.

What should she do with Dennis?

Mary lay in bed all day, not eating, drinking, or sleeping. She didn't care about anything. Her husband wasn't just hers, but also belonged to another woman.

She would rather leave him than endure this situation.

"Sir, the ATM partner has arrived." the assistant respectfully informed Dennis of his schedule.

Dennis quickly tidied up the documents and nodded, "I know, do we have anything arranged for tonight?"

"Yes, sir, you have the company M party at 7 pm." the assistant replied.

"Cancel it." Dennis said, standing up.

The assistant followed behind him after he left.

The contract was signed, and Dennis exchanged a few more words with the partner. He glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave the office. The assistant saw that his mood seemed better than yesterday and quietly rejoiced. He didn't want to see the two who loved each other look so sad all the time.

Dennis returned home, and the house was dark with no lights on. He furrowed his brow, wondering where she was. Since she found out that she couldn't get pregnant, Mary rarely went out and mostly stayed at home. Dennis opened the door, turned on the lights, and walked into the bedroom to see Mary lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling with a pained expression.

Dennis sat beside her and reached out to touch her forehead. She wasn't running a fever. He asked softly, "What's wrong? Are you not feeling well?"

"Mother came to our house." Mary said sadly.

Dennis gritted his teeth, not showing a friendly expression. "What did she say to you?"

"She said she had arranged for another woman to be with you and advised me to agree." Mary said, grabbing his hand. "I'm in a lot of pain."

Dennis widened his eyes in shock, "Is she crazy? How could she come up with something so illogical?"

He hugged Mary and helped her sit up against his chest, asking gently, "Have you eaten yet?"

Mary shook her head weakly.

Dennis felt sorry for her and stroked her hair, "You must not skip meals, your health is the most important thing. Listen to me, don't do this to yourself."

Mary nodded in agreement.

Dennis laid her back down on the bed before saying, "Wait for me for a moment."

Mary obediently lay on the bed and waited for him. A little while later, Dennis came back with a tray of food, which he had cooked himself. He had fried two eggs, toasted a piece of bread, and poured a warm glass of milk.

The two plates of food looked exactly the same. Dennis placed the tray on the table next to the bed and sat up, holding Mary. He intended to carry her, but Mary stopped him, saying, "I can walk, I'm not a child."

Dennis chuckled, "You're my princess."

Mary ate very slowly, and Dennis followed her pace. After finishing her food, Mary was about to lie back down on the bed when Dennis said, "Let's change and go out together."

It was already nine o'clock at night, and it was quite late. Mary asked, "Where are we going?"

"To John's house," Dennis replied.

When they arrived at the John family's mansion, it was already 10 PM and the lights were still on, indicating that nobody had gone to bed yet.

Dennis honked the horn twice and held Mary's hand, reassuring her: "Just follow me, don't be afraid."

Mary stared at the luxurious house, the bright lights blinding her. They were too rich and powerful, and it was normal for them not to care about her.

The butler heard the car horn and hurriedly opened the gate. Dennis drove straight in and got out of the car first, walked around to the passenger seat, and opened the door for Mary.

The butler bowed and said: "Young master, madam."

Dennis looked around the house and asked: "Are they asleep?"

"No, sir." the butler respectfully replied.

Dennis hugged Mary's waist and took her inside.

Only Mr. John Mark was drinking tea in the living room. When he saw Dennis and his wife come back, his eyes were cold.

Mary spoke up first: "Hello, father."

Dennis got straight to the point: "Where is she?"

Mr. John Mark slammed his teacup on the table and asked displeased: "Whom are you looking for?"

Dennis didn't beat around the bush and asked again: "Where is she?"

A woman's voice came down the stairs, her tone cold: "Are you looking for me?"

Dennis held Mary's hand and faced Mrs. Lauriel: "Don't come to our house to say nonsense about my wife anymore. This is the last time I will say this to you. Mary is my wife, my only wife. I forbid anyone to even think about touching her. Do you understand?"

"Oh my god," Mrs. Lauriel leisurely walked over to the sofa and sat down. "Whose wife am I now?" She intentionally looked at Mary's belly, insinuating, "I am your mother, and if you can't have a grandchild for me to hold, then let another woman do it, isn't that right?"

Dennis was furious: "You can do whatever you want, but I don't agree."

It was only then that Mr. John Mark spoke up: "I also agree with the way my mother and son are doing things."

He turned to Mary and said, "Daughter-in-law, what do you say?"

Mary was speechless, and Dennis hugged her protectively in his arms: "I want you both to know that I am not obligated to please you. The John family has nothing to do with me."

An angry bang on the table shook the house.

"You carry my blood, John Dennis, remember that everything I have will be yours in the future. You got married without telling us, and I accepted it, but how can I accept a wife who can't give me a grandchild?" Mr. John Mark was both angry and heartbroken.

Mrs. Lauriel patted her husband's chest and said, "Calm down and take it slow."

Dennis couldn't take it anymore and said, "Have you fulfilled your duty as a father to me, Mr. John Mark?"

Mr. John Mark widened his eyes in disbelief at his son's impertinence. He yelled, "You're so disrespectful!"

Dennis laughed, "Are you angry because you're angry?"

Mary held onto her husband's shirt and implied that he shouldn't provoke his father. Dennis rubbed her waist and comforted her.
