“Celestia, it is time.” I can feel her emotions, feel her heartbreaking just as mine is. We cannot lose another child. Celestia comes into the war room with our daughter, Davina. She is trying to hold back her tears.
“Lux, I don’t think I can do it. She needs her parents.” Celestia’s eyes are all puffy and red from crying. She hasn’t slept in days and nothing I say will make this better.
“There is no guarantee we will walk away from this alive and if we are to ensure our lineage and her safety, we need to send her away,” I say firmly, trying hold back my own tears. I grab Davina from Celestia and stare into her beautiful hazel eyes. I try to memorize what she looks like as this may be the last time I see my daughter.
One of the warlocks enters the war room. “Sir, Daniel and Isla Ortiz are here.”
“Send them in.” Daniel and Isla are one of my most trusted friends. Daniel is a very powerful warlock and I know he will protect my daughter with his very life if it came down to it.
Daniel and Isla enter the room. Daniel stands tall at 6 feet and 3 inches where as his wife, Isla, appears so small next to him at 5 feet at 2 inches tall. Both have chocolate brown hair and green eyes with an olive complexion. Daniel appears to be injured and his brother is helping him walk into the room.
“Daniel, it is time. Are you alright.” I see he has lost a lot of blood, so much that would kill a typical human.
“I’ll be fine Lux. My leg is beyond repair with magic but I have been able to heal it just fine. I can get a prosthetic in the human plane,” Daniel replies. Always putting on a brave face for the sake of others.
“I truly appreciate you my friend. Please watch over Davina as if she were your own. Are all the documents prepared for when you enter the human realm?”
“Yes, Lux. Her birth certificate has been prepared with us as her parents listed with a completely different birth date. We will treat her as if she truly is our own daughter. Thierry’s pack doctor has ensured there will be no questions asked regarding her birth or that we are her parents,” Isla replies. Isla can not have children of her own and it devastated her when she found out she couldn’t.
“You can count on us,” states Daniel, “I will seal away her powers.” Daniel chants something in Latin to seal away Davina’s powers and the seal appears on the back of her right shoulder as though it were a birth mark. The shape of the birth mark is a double infinity symbol. Though her powers are sealed her hair remained our silver color. Celestia has a worried expression on her face as she touches her hair.
“Do not worry Celestia. Humans tend to dye their hair color frequently. We can use that as a means for her to blend in. We can also use magic to make humans see her hair has brown” states Daniel.
Thierry then walks into the war room. “Lux there is no more time to wait.”
“I understand.” Celestia and I give our last goodbyes and kiss our daughter. I hand Davina to Isla and in an instant they disappear as though they have evaporated into dust. I know in that moment they have transported themselves into the human realm where they will raise my daughter. As they disappeared the door crashes open. We prepare to fight for our lives.
I know I will never see my daughter again.
Davina It is a beautiful summer day here on the east coast. I love the heat. I am fifteen years old, soon to be sixteen and I’ll be graduating high school just before my birthday in September. I use to get picked on in school because of how smart I am and my hair color so I was glad to be able to finish school on line. I have already been accepted into the University of South Carolina for business. I plan on taking over my parent’s restaurant once I graduate college. It is a quaint little family restaurant called Ortiz’s Place and it has the best pies. I may be a bit biased there. My favorite being my mother’s banana cream pie. I spend my days completing my school work at the restaurant and working there part time. I love the atmosphere and making people feel at home while at the restaurant. Everyone is so friendly. We’ve had several people become regulars, including my father’s best friend, Thierry. He runs some big shot company and comes at least once a week. He is like an uncle to
“How did you do on your test,” asks mom, though she is smiling. She knows I aced it. I have never received a B on any test I’ve ever taken and I don’t plan on that changing anytime soon. I may be a bit of an overachiever. “I won’t get the results until tomorrow but I don’t doubt I aced it,” I say with confidence. “I bet you passed. You can dance circles around me when it comes to numbers,” dad laughs. He isn’t wrong. When it came to budgeting mom or I handled that. Dad is better at organizing and cooking rather than the math part of running a restaurant. I eye my dad through the rear view mirror and he catches me looking at him. He raises an eyebrow waiting for me to ask the question I’m sure is all over my face. “Hey dad, what do you guys think about me going out on a date?” I am digging to see if they’ll at least let me date. “I didn’t know you had a crush. Who is the boy,” asks mom. I was really hoping she wouldn’t ask that. I should’ve known better. “Well, you know the coll
“Uncle Gabriel and your father have a surprise for you.” I look at mom with a wide eyed expression and begin grilling her. “What is it? It’s not my birthday. Is it a graduation present? What is it?” My mom laughs at me as I finish my last question. “You’ll just have to wait and see when we get there. I’d hate to ruin the surprise,” says mom. “You suck at keeping secrets. Spill it.” “Not this time,” she laughs. I sit in the car in agony as I swear mom is driving so slow on purpose. I drum my fingers on the laptop bag and stare out the window. I am waiting to see the restaurant sign come into view. I decide to check my email as I am waiting for my test results to come in. I know I passed but it’ll be nice to have the final results. When I open up my mailbox I immediately see the email I have been waiting for and gasp in excitement. “What is it Davina,” mom asks. “It’s my test results.” Mom has the biggest grin. “Well go on open it.” I open the email and begin reading. I squeal w
“Mr. and Mrs. Ortiz, Mr. Brooks,” Daniela one of the wait staff interrupts. She is Thierry’s best female warrior. “I’m sorry to interrupt but we can hear what’s going on and we thought you should know that there has been a lone wolf in the area. He’s a second year college student and has visited the restaurant regularly these past two years. He doesn’t seem dangerous but he has taken an interest in Davina. His name is Enzo Black.” “Keep an eye on him. I don’t think it’s a coincidence a lone wolf has been hanging around and has yet to ask to join the pack. I don’t want to scare Davina but she needs to stay away from him and we will need to proceed with caution. There are rogue warlocks out there helping the wolves so we need to be prepared,” Thierry ordered his wolf. He then sends out a text. “Yes sir,” replied Daniela, “I’ll inform the rest of the staff and head out with Mark.” She turns and heads back inside the restaurant. “I texted Mark about this Enzo Black. I’ll get a backgro
Thierry I have watched Davina grow up throughout the years and have been around her whole life. She considers me somewhat of an uncle and I consider her my niece. I have wolves surrounding her should something go wrong. Some of my best warriors work at the Ortiz restaurant. I have even placed wolves at the university as professors, students or even security guards. The Smith twins, Daniel and Daniela, are my best and most fierce warriors. If someone took on one of the twins they wouldn’t stand a chance but together those two are deadly. Only my son Mark could only best them if they don’t fight together, though I have caught him letting Daniela win. I am happy for my son. I do hope Daniela turns out to me his mate. The night we lost Davina’s parents still haunts me. Probably always will. I failed in protecting them but I would not fail their daughter. I insisted they flee but Lux was too proud to run and wanted to ensure everyone else was evacuated before leaving himself. Celestia ref
“Calista you know you don’t have to knock,” I say with a smile on my face. Seeing her always relaxes me. She is my sunshine in the the middle of the storm. Her parent’s picked the perfect name because it means most beautiful and that she certainly is. Calista enters the room with that gorgeous smile on her face. She has the most beautiful blonde hair that reaches her waist and the most vibrant blue eyes that Mark and Keila inherited. Derek got stuck with my features poor boy. “You know you tell me that every time and every time I tell you I’ll still going to knock,” she laughs. “How did it go?” She moves towards me and I reach out my hand for hers pulling her onto my lap so I can inhale her intoxicating scent. “Davina’s powers are manifesting sooner than we expected. The seal is wearing off and there is nothing the warlocks can do to stop it. She’s too powerful,” I inform her. “We knew this day was going to come. I was hoping we would have more time to allow Derek be a kid longer b
I text Jason informing him of where our sons were at and that they will be arriving at my estate with half an hour. Jason replied he will be over shortly. I may be teaching both boys about the history of the silver dragons. I know Derek is close with Owen and I am not sure if Owen will end up the new beta or the second gamma. So Owen needs to know this history as well. Mark is already well informed. He paid close attention to the dragon history as he had a bit of a crush on Davina but when he met her for the first time he became attached to Daniela instead. They are close to eighteen and though their wolves can’t sense it yet they seem drawn to each other. It was clear Davina was not fated to be mated with Mark so he let it go. I am sure he will end up mated to Daniela one of the best female warriors. I’m happy for him. I know how much he would like a family of his own. I hear a car pull up to the driveway. Jason has arrived. I immediately pull the door open and greet him. “Thanks f
Derek Dad is really mad this time. He normally wouldn’t scold me for drinking but I never did stay out all night. I know I am going to hear it from mom later too. She may even start crying. Dad and I had a deal that I would start alpha training after I had been in college for two years. This way I could still take classes but be on a lighter schedule as I would have my prerequisites finished. Now it seems college is completely off the table. I trudge my way upstairs to my bedroom to shower. Owen went to a guest bathroom to shower himself and I lent him some clothes. I quickly shower, not wanting to make my father angrier than he already is, and head downstairs and brush my teeth. Owen beat me to my father’s office. I don’t blame him for trying to be quicker. He is in double trouble since he mated with my sister. The thought of that made me laugh to myself. “So why the hell did you not tell me you mated with my sister? You had all night to say something. That’s awesome man, now we’re
