Chapter 2:Future Boss

I was startled awake when my phone buzzed for a call. I squinted at it on my bedside table before I picked up the phone.

“Hello?” I said, my voice distorted from drowsiness.

What time did I sleep last night? Well, Tiffany annoyed me again. My friend had not stopped teasing me after I told her what had happened to me, and suggested that the handsome, blue-eyed man might be my destiny.

Tsk! If I could see destiny, I would probably use it for ruining my life.

“Good morning, Ms. Mallory Addison Finley.” I heard a woman’s voice over the line.

I heaved a deep breath and sat up in my bed while stretching my arms. “Yes?”

“I would like to tell you that you are hired.”

My eyes, which were closed not long ago, grew bigger.

Wait! What? I’ve been hired?!

My heart was overflowing with joy. I couldn’t seem to process the good news I had heard earlier in the day.

Am I dreaming?

“W-Why? How? Uh, I mean, are you sure, ma’am?”

It was understandable for me to overreact in my situation, especially since I had never been accepted for a job I applied for before after a while. I couldn’t believe it, and even more so, I couldn’t believe I had allowed my dream to come true.

“Yes, you can start tomorrow morning, at 7:00 AM sharp.”

I kept nodding in excitement. “I assure you, ma’am! I’ll do my best! I won’t be late on my first day.”

“Okay, then. Congratulations!”

When I hung up the telephone, I screamed and jumped on my bed. Then, I quickly dialed my friend’s number to share the bean. Thanks to Tiffany, I had already found a job. I wished not to mess this one, again.

“Hey, Tiff! Guess what?”

I heard her best friend groan. “You’re not a virgin anymore?” I was obviously still drowsy, and I just woke her up.

My ears turned red, and my cheeks flushed. This woman’s mouth has always been rude and shameless.

“What?! No!”

“Then, what? Will the world be destroyed? Where will we move, Mars or Jupiter?”

“Tiffany!” Frustrated, I exclaimed.

On the other end of the line, the latter laughed softly. “Okay, fine, I surrender! I’m sorry! What’s the matter?”

My face brightened when I realized I had a job, and I was looking forward to celebrating with my best friend.

“I got it! I have a job now!” My good news.

Although I couldn’t see her, I knew my friend was smiling and it was happy for me, based on her voice over the phone.

“Finally! Congratulations, Maddie! I knew it! I’ll see you there every day!”

“Thank you, Tiffany!”

“You’re welcome! But please, don’t mess this up again, okay? Don’t burn what’s in there because our work place isn’t a kitchen.”

I made a bad face. I remembered burning papers at a company I worked before because I thought when my boss said, “burn those papers, it sucks!” meant I would literally burn it. It turned out that my fat boss was just swearing.

“I won’t,” I replied, scowling.

“Good. Prove to him that you’re deserving of the opportunity and that you’re the ideal employee for the job, Maddie, so he won’t be able to replace you. He’s kind, but when it comes to work, he’s serious and strict. As much as possible, make no mistake. Give it your all, and never let our boss down.”

I exhaled a sigh before stepping into Crimson Group Incorporation. I had set foot on the place for the second time, but I was still amazed at its size and elegant vibe. The floor was marble and everything was as clear as a crystal in the homes of the wealthy.

I approached the woman behind the counter, who smiled as if I recognized her right away.

“Hi, ma’am, what can I do for you?”

My lips formed a smile. I didn’t want to be a snob. I needed to be friendly because I would be working with them starting from today.

“My name is Mallory. I’m here on my first day as the President’s secretary.”

“Oh, this way, please…” It led her to where.

They got into the elevator and the woman I was with hit the 30th floor. It was a lot higher up there. If you jump, you will certainly fracture your bones and break your skull. Like, duh! Unless you want to see Archangel with San Pedro.

“I am Clara. Congratulations on being chosen. I hope you last longer than the others,” introduced the woman.

I was anxious about what Clara had said in an instant. Was she signaling me a warning to reconsider my decision first before going for it?

“Why? Is our boss’ behavior improper? Is he untamable?” I interrogated, trying not to sound nervous.

If Clara says yes, she’s finished. How could I deal with my boss’s attitude when my head gets hot easily and I has no patience?

I breathed a sigh of relief when Clara wagged her head, indicating otherwise. “No, he’s tolerable, but the case is because he’s moody and snobbish. He also doesn’t want to mix business and pleasure. The secretaries who applied often tried to seduce the President, but those attempts never worked because he is cold and distant to women.”

It piqued my interest. “Why? Perhaps he’s gay?”

“Oh, no, no! He’s not! I don’t know, but I heard his ex-girlfriend cheated on him then.”

I nodded in response. The girl must have gone insane. She’s got to be joking. Their boss is the President of a major company, and she’s got some nerves to cheat on him. Well, maybe the ex-girlfriend wasn’t normal.

I got out of the elevator when it opened. I frowned when I noticed Clara had not exited the elevator.

“You’re not going with me?” I asked in surprise.

Clara smiled sparingly. “Protocols, the only expected guest of the President, is the only one who can set foot on his territory.”

I raised an eyebrow and took in my surroundings. I scanned the entire place. There was a long hallway, but only three doors were visible.

“Is this his office?” Clara nodded, my eyes enlarged.

“This whole floor?!” I exclaimed in shock.

“As you can see, there are only three doors. The door on the right is his office, and the other two rooms on the left are the President’s playroom and bedroom.”

Wow! So, this is a house? It’s nice and convenient!

I remained gaping even after Clara left. Actually, the owner of the place is obviously a man. The color is a combination of gray, black, and gold. The ambiance is elegant and full of authority.

I pursed my lips before starting to walk to the office of my future boss. I was flabbergasted by the red carpet and chandeliers that lined the ceiling. Woah, the corners were clean and comfortable! The atmosphere of the corridor wasn’t eerie either. I was drawn to the energy the place was giving me. I knew I would enjoy working there.

I adjusted my skirt, which I wore with a white blouse and felt exposed my entire leg. Okay, I was overreacting about my legs being shown, but as Tiffany said, it looked decent. I also fixed my hair and polished the salmon door. I also smelled my breath, and by the mercy of God, it was still fragrant and not a sewage odor.

I knocked on the door after I was satisfied with my appearance, assuring myself that I did not look greasy.

“Come in,” a deep baritone voice called to me. I gulped.

Why does the voice seem so sexy?

I snapped back to reality, and mentally rolled my eyes. I kept reminding myself not to do anything stupid. I cannot afford to squander the opportunity that has been given to me. I cannot afford to lose another job.

No! Stop it, Mallory! You’re here to work. It was just a voice. Come to your senses, Maddie, and stop being silly!

Oh, my God! I was already crazy. I was having a conversation with myself alone.

I inhaled deeply before turning the doorknob. The first thing I saw when the door opened were those blue orbs, and all I could say was, “What the heck?! Destiny, I will kill you!”
