Chapter Two: Surprised Who My Mate Is

Disappointedly, Alpha Bolin looked at me. Momentarily, tears started flowing from my eyes. I knew there would never be a future with him. I was without a wolf and was too weak to be his mate, let alone to be his Luna, the second powerful ruler of the pack.

As Alpha Bolin walked toward me, with every step he took, I felt my life fall apart, aware of what he was about to do.

Alpha Bolin was supposed to be my hope for a better life, and now he wasn't. How was I supposed to live without him?

"What's your name?" Alpha Bolin posed this question as he stood before me, prepared to reject me.

He had to ask because I was without a wolf, and his wolf couldn't spiritually link to me to know my name without me telling him.

I tried to speak, but my words failed me.

"What's your name?" he asked angrily, shouting this time.

"Melonie Starling," I say, frightened by his shout.

"Melonie Starling, I, Bolin Crescent, reject you as my rightful mate." His jawline tightened, and his arms rolled into a tight fist, squeezed upsettingly by every word.

Every single word that came out of his mouth felt like salt thrown into an open wound, and I became so weak that my whole body quivered.

Noticing the pain of the rejection I'm undergoing, Alpha Bolin said, "You'd be a joke and unfit to be my Luna; make it easier for yourself and also reject me as your mate."

It would be intolerable if I didn't. The anguish of longing for my mate to love me back would be far too excruciating. No wolf is strong enough to do it, especially watching their mate move on with another wolf.

I placed a hand over my aching heart that my mate chose to disown me, and my gaze fell to the green grasses illuminated by the moonlight.

Despite Alpha Bolin's rejection of me, it was difficult for me to reject him. He was supposed to be the first person to show me love, and tonight I was supposed to experience the feeling of a true home, free from daily humiliation.

"As your alpha, I command you to reject me," he demanded in his alpha tone.

No wolf can disobey an alpha voice—a trait only possessed by powerful alphas.

His powerful command controlled my body, and my head rose—not on my own—to face him. Tears blur my vision, and I can't see him anymore.

"I, Melonie Starling, also reject you, Bolin Crescent, as my rightful mate." I was forced to reject him.

Each word formed felt like drowning, and I dropped to my knees, catching my breath.

"Make sure no one knows you were my mate, or you'll face my wrath," Alpha Bolin warned me before he vanished into the night in the blink of an eye.

I tumbled onto my side, weeping.
