Chapter 5 : A Beautiful Day

One morning, Angela came in early to clean Leonardo's room. Leonardo was on the side of his bed when Angela entered. He suddenly turned at the door where Angela stood. His hearing was getting sharper. He sniffed the air. He wanted  to recognize who came in.

"You're a stubborn woman!" Leonardo's voice echoed.

But Angela was like a rock that sparkles in a rage when struck. And the more enraged Leonardo showed, the tougher she became. "No one has a soft head, unless you're abnormal."

"Get out, please," Leonardo growled, his jaw gritting.

"I have to clean your room and bathe you later." Angela began quietly picking up some messes on the floor.

"What should I do to get you out?" He groaned.

"You don't have to do anything because I wouldn’t go out without you taking a bath and putting on new clothes," she declared casually, "You stink." She opened the cupboard for Leonardo's shirt and trousers.

She stood in front of the open cupboard silently, staring at the thick, hung clothes.

"It's really different when you're rich. I'm confused about what to choose for you to wear. She turned to Leonardo and said, "Any suggestions on what you want to wear?

Leonardo was silently looking at the floor. He was unresponsive.

Angela stared at him. "Let life be easier for me, please."

"Leave me alone."

"You know I can't," she sighed. "Tell me what your favorite color is."

Leonardo's voice was hard as he replied, "What do you think? Would I be happy to wear my favorite color? " He said grimly, "Are you stupid?"

"I'm not stupid. I'm just asking so I can give you what you want. You know. It’s a refreshing feeling in fresh clean clothes."

"Do you really want to give me happiness?" Leonardo tilted his head.

"Of course. My priority is my patient’s happiness. " She stated as she started to touch Leonardo's clothes.

Leonardo was immobile in his bed, but his fists were tight and his forehead was sweating. The air-conditioning in the room was on high, but he was still soaked with sweat. "Kill me." He murmured.

Angela grimaced as she heard Leonardo's words. "Are you going to turn me into a criminal?"

"Kill me, and you'll be able to help me."

"What am I, a fool?" Angela joked, "If you die in my care, I will stay in jail, and that will not happen. Living in prison is not heaven. I have criminal friends and... They were in pain inside. What a sad life. I don't want to go to prison." She sighed, "This is it; I've already chosen what's best for you," she said quickly, pulling red t-shirt and gray trousers from the cupboard.

Leonardo frowned.

She smiled. "I'm pretty sure you'd look energetic in this shirt, and it's a beautiful day today."

"Every day is doom for a blind man!" exclaimed Leonardo. "Are you crazy?"

Angela stared at Leonardo, frowning. She knew he would give her a hard time, but that was part of the plan.

Leonardo grumbled, "Maybe I should tell you this. I have no respect for women like you! " He snorted, "All of you have brought bad luck for me!"

"And why have you said that?"

"I became blind because of a stupid woman who crossed the street!" He was gasping for breath. "You're all stupid! Crossing the road like crossing the park is the stupidest thing to do!"

"Don’t forget. Your mother is a woman too," Angela got mad and said, "And stop yelling like that. Women are more responsible than men. We’re more sensitive and sensible than men. Hammer that into your brain. "

"If it weren’t for that stupid woman, I wouldn’t have been able to crash and go blind!" He shouted more. "You women are the scourge of my life!"

"You're the idiot." She yelled, "You hold the steering wheel, so you're the only one with the power to save yourself." Maybe the reason why you crashed... was because you don't care. And... "It's your fault you went blind," Angela said, stunned as she let go of her pent-up rage.

Leonardo stood up like a child and stepped towards the wall in his room.

"What happened to you is all your fault,"

He swooped down on Angela and clutched her arms."You bitch."

"Let go of me!" She didn't see it coming.

But Leonardo was deaf to her and continuously gripped her arms so tightly that it hurt her.

Angela cried in pain.

"You girls are fierce, especially you!" He grabbed her hair. "And you have to pay for everything!" His mouth was in her ear.

"You're the one who made a mess of your life. Just you and no one else! " Angela pushed him harder and kicked his balls.

Leonardo wailed in pain. Knelt down and groaned, "Kill me! Get a knife and stab me in the neck.”

"I’m not an executioner." Angela yelled back, "Harm yourself, but never expect me to do it. Anyway, blind people are helpless. And death is far from you. "

"What kind of nurse are you? Why do you talk like that? " Leonardo was getting angrier. "Why are you against me?"

"Being a nurse, it’s my sole responsibility to take care of you and to keep you alive. Don’t expect me to go along with your nasty plan. Bear whatever pain you’re enduring right now. Because that’s meant for you alone. You became blind because...

"Because of what?" Leonardo gritted.

"Because... What you plant is what you harvest."

Leonardo's voice was pleading, "I can't go back in time, so kill me." He was shaking, and his face was very pale. And his eyes were moist with tears.

Angela stared at him like a stone.

"Pay close attention to what I'm saying," he said. "There’s a pistol in my father's drawer in the other room. The key to the room was hidden beneath the pot of fake roses outside the door. Get the pistol from the drawer and bring it here. Shoot me. Kill me. "

Angela realized this was her chance to exact revenge on Leonardo. All she'd do was look for the pistol and give it to Leonardo so he could kill himself with it. To support his suicide plan was the best way to make him vanish.

"Don't worry, you won't get caught," Leonardo continued. "All you have to do is take that pistol and hand it over to me. That's all. Then you can leave the room, and I'd take care my own death with the pistol. Okay, go--- get my father's pistol. "

"I’m not that naive?" She snorted. "The way you commanded, you sounded like... you’re just buying horseradish. What am I, a fool? " She moved to the closet and opened it, looking for Leonardo's underwear. "Of course. No matter what happened to you, it would always lead to me as the number one suspect for your death. Even if you’d use your father’s gun. That pistol doesn't have legs to get into your hands. I also have brain, you know."

Leonardo snarled, "You're a wordy woman; get lost if you don't want to help me."

"I'd leave you in peace after you took a bath and tidied this room," she joked, adding, "You're just blind and not dead." She then began cleaning the room by picking up all the clutter. "Don't be in such a rush; death will come in no time."

"Living in the dark would drive you insane." Leonardo.

"Not if you're willing to accept it."

Leonardo crawled across the floor on his back.

"What is it? What exactly is that lying on the floor game? "

"Pick me up if you want to clean my room," Leonardo said, trying to keep his game going, before falling silent and opening his arms like Jesus Christ on the cross.

"Get up," Angela commanded.

"Pick me up to get me up," he murmured.

"So, you want to play a game with me?"

"Yes, if gaming is what you call this."

"Okay, that’s your body and you can do whatever you want with it. You can lie there for years. Pee there, sleep there. And don’t expect me to clean up your mess if that happens. " Angela sat at the bed’s edge and braced herself.

Suddenly, Leonardo got up from lying down and shouted again. "Get out. I don't want to smell your perfume. "

"And why?"

"I just don't like that scent."

"Is it because it's a cheap perfume?" Angela asks again, "Well, that's the difference between the rich and the poor. You rich people always want us out of your way. You always make harsh comments on our lifestyle. You thought you were being favored by God. What you don't realize is that when we die, we all have the same form of skull. Bet me. Your skull and mine would have the slightest difference. My skull would be mistaken for yours."

"The brevity of what I said, the height of your response," Leonardo frowned. "You go out!"

"Yes, I'm coming out; I forgot your breakfast."

"I'm not going to eat!" Leonardo yelled.

"You will eat! Even if you don’t want to, you will eat! " Angela was talking as she opened the door and bumped into Mrs. Vera and Mrs. Gale, who were at the door outside Leonardo’s room.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Have you been there long? " Angela was shocked.

"We were about to enter the room when we heard your argument," Mrs. Vera said.

"Mom, look for another nurse." Leonardo requested.

Mrs. Vera frowned, "Why?"

"That woman is rude. She has no respect for me. Find a new nurse." Leonardo insisted.

When Angela suddenly spoke, "Excuse me, Mrs. Vera. I should have prepared your son’s breakfast. "

Leonardo yelled, "I'm not going to eat!"

"I know you will!" Angela yelled back and left the rest staring.

Mrs. Vera and Mrs. Gale looked at each other, and there was a smile on their faces.
