•CHAPTER THREE•

I'm late for work Ma, imma call you back," I said to my mom who I've been on the phone with the whole ride to work.

"Okay baby, take care, and come visit soon, I miss you,"

"I was there just last week Ma," I said rolling my eyes.

"Can't a mother miss her daughter?"

"Fine, I'll come by after work," I said giving in.

"And you'll stay for dinner?" She asks hopefully.

"You know it, love you uwa," I said.

[Mother]

"Son ku jariri, sannu." She says in her native tongue, Hausa.

[Love you baby, bye.]

I park my car at my reserved parking.

"Morning Dr Morelli," a nurse says as I pass by her at the front desk.

"Morning," I said with a smile.

I go up to the elevator, pressing the button for the fourth floor.

Once on the forth floor, I go down the hall to my office, putting on my white coat, getting down to business.

"Hey sweetie, how about you wait here whilst I talk to you mother outside," I said to the little girl who nodded her head in response.

I go out with her mother. "Mrs Valentine, everything is okay with Stacey, it's just a little fever, all she needs is some rest and she will be all fine," I informed her.

"Okay thank you, I'm so sorry for bothering you, but you know how vulnerable Stacey is to diseases," she says.

"I understand Mrs Valentine, it's better safe than sorry," I said to her sincerely before we made our way back into my office.

"Stacey sweetie, I'll be seeing you next week for your check up," I said to her, handing her a lollipop.

"Thank you Ms Mo," she says, excitedly excepting the lollipop.

I accompany them out of my office before saying goodbye and going back to my office.

"Lemme guess, another over exagerative mother," Bianca, a close intern and friend of mine says with a smirk, leaning against the door frame.

"Hey, she's not over exagerating, she's caring," I said in her defence.

"Yeah right," she scoffs, rolling her eyes. "My black mom would have given me some pills and told me, Suck it up and go to school, if I was lucky. When I wasn't, she would say I'm faking and force me to go to school."

"True," I said with a chuckle, knowing my mother would do the same.

"Hi baby," my mom says, answering the door.

"Hey ma," I said giving her a hug.

"You got a boyfriend yet?" She asks pulling away from the hug, making me roll my eyes as I made my way into the house.

"You asked the same question last week and I'll still give you the same answer," I said bluntly.

"Come on baby, I want a need a son in law, your my only child. I'm going to die soon and I still have no grandchild," she says with a pout.

I roll my eyes, there she goes, trying to guilty trap me, again.

"Ma your only fourty five," I said rolling my eyes.

"So what, Lord knows I might die anyday from now," my mom says being dramatic.

"Ma, you'll be fine," I said patting her shoulder, placing my handbag on the kitchen stool.

"I'll be fine when you get married and give me some grandchildren," my ma mumbled, making me roll my eyes.

"Is that Monique?" My dad says down the stairs.

"Yes she's down here love!" My ma shouts.

"Ciao mia bellissima figlia," my father says coming into the room

[Hello my beautiful daughter]

"Buon pomeriggio padre," I said kissing his cheek.

[Good afternoon father]

"Tua madre ti disturba di nuovo?" He says turning to my mother.

[Is your mother bothering you again?]

"I'm not bothering her, I just want her to get married" My mom says rolling her eyes.

"Si sposerà quando sarà il momento giusto," my father says to my mother, making her roll her eyes.

[She'll get married when it's the right time]

"E anche se non vuole sposarsi, quindi, è una donna indipendente che non ha bisogno di un uomo per essere felice," my father says sternly.

[And even if she doesn't want to get married, so what, she is an independent woman who doesn't need a man to be happy]

"Grazie Padre," I said looking at my mom with a smirk.

[Thank you father]

"You two are no fair," she says playfully folding her arms.

"Is my baby mad?" My father asks pecking my mom's lips before it turns into a full on make out session.

"Come on you two, get a room," I said looking away from the two.

"Sorry," my mother says letting out a giggle.

"Need any help with dinner ma?" I asked my mom, changing the topic.

"Of course," she says leading the way into the kitchen.

"Need extra hands?" my dad asks coming into the kitchen with us.

"Yeah, it's just like old times, cooking together," my ma says.

|•••|

"So how's work dad?" I asked my dad as we ate dinner.

"It's all fine, I'm going to meet up with some computer company to improve the company's systems and everything," he says.

"You never told me about that babe?" My mother asks, turning to him.

"Oh no, I did but you were too busy shouting about the woman at the store, remember," my dad says with a smirk.

"Agh, don't remind me about that hoe," my mom says rolling her eyes.

"What happened with the woman at the store?" I asked looking between the two of them.

"This hoe at the store was all up in my husband's face," my mom says scrunching her face.

"You know your mom, she over reacts about everything," my dad says rolling his eyes.

"Okay, lemme explain, so we were in the cue, waiting to pay for our groceries and she was all over him saying omg you're so hot," she says in a mocking voice. "Then she asks is there a Mrs and I'm like bitch can you not fucking see me, then she saying my ass is unmannered and I'm like bitch please," she says being over the top as usual. "Then she 'accidentally' drops her keys, bending down with her flat ass all up on my mans." My ma says putting quotes on accidentally.

At the end of the story, I was laughing my ass off.

"After twenty years of marriage you still get jealous," my dad says to my mom.

I look at the two and I want this, I want this for my future.
