Chapter 21
Megan and Alice were as high as the kites after smoking two strong joints. Giggling in the middle of the grapevine trellis while plucking out grapes. The distant music they heard once had faded away. They were unaware they had gone completely far off from the wedding. “I found a red one,” Megan screamed, jumping and lifting a grape up in the sky to examine it. “Let’s see.” Alice dropped a handful of her grapes and walked to Megan. “I hear horses,” Alice stopped and grinned. “Let’s go ride a horse.” Alice pulled Megan's hand, making her drop her grapes, dragging her to where she heard the horses. They were close to the vineyard's riverbank. Megan gasps, “Let’s go swimming,” she giggled. “You go. I want to ride that horse,” Alice added. “We can set them free. They can run into the river with me.” Megan suggested. Alice nodded, climbing onto the wooden fence with her heels. Megan was gripping the post, shaking it hard with grunts, trying to pull away the wooden plank. "Open. O

Alice acted like the scorned woman she was. Her divorce was a tremendous battle she fought fiercely. Her lawyer was a beast. The final agreement was drawn and ready for her signature. Alice never batted an eyelid or looked at Oliver, who was sitting at the same table across from her with his lawyer.“Shall we proceed?” Oliver’s lawyer, Buck, spoke.“Of course,” Alice’s lawyer Craig nodded.Oliver was glaring at Alice for good reason. He was about to be signing off and agreeing to settle a large sum on top of a lot of demands Alice wanted. Alice took advice from Oliver's mother and made him pay.“I will read the contents of this agreement.” Buck cleared his throat, clearly weary.“Let’s get this over with. I have things to do.” Oliver snarled, glaring at Alice, who smirked and held her chin up. Megan had made sure to dress her in a killer red dress with a pair of red suede heels. Her lips were ruby red. She had dark and smoky eyes. Her hair was piled up in a bun. She looked killer and

Alice buried herself in her work. Her way of avoiding the pain. She didn’t take time to process after her divorce. Peace Lilies Foundation was her new distraction. She was working herself to the bone and not sparing time for anyone. When she first started, it seemed reasonable that she needed to be more involved, but after six months, Alice seemed obsessed. She was barely sleeping or eating enough. She looked underweight.“You are not doing this again,” Megan sighed as she walked into Alice’s large office.“I’m busy, Megan,” Alice responded, typing on her laptop. “I have a fundraiser coming next week. Things have to be perfect.”“Alice,” Megan pushed Alice’s chair back.“No!” Alice shrieked, “Meg, I am working.”“You need to stop. Everyone is waiting for you.”“I have to finish the presentation for tomorrow. I still have a meeting at two.”“Alice, this is your birthday, and you promised you would be done by eleven. It’s fifteen minutes after twelve. Cancel the meeting.”“I can't,” Ali

He had been sure when he organized everything, but now he was doubtful. Vincent wasn’t sure about the flowers he was holding, either. It seemed obvious and overkill. The flowers were too much. Vincent had decided to lose the flowers. He slapped the bouquet of white roses on her sister’s chest. Katy was startled and looked at him, taking off her one AirPod from her ear. “What are you doing?” she asked. “Hold the flowers. You can give them to her when we arrive.” “No,” she refused, “You got her these flowers. I’m not giving them to her.” “Do as I say and take the damn flowers,” Vincent added just as the elevator opened. “Vincent,” Katy hissed, holding the flowers walking behind him. “There are plenty of flowers around.” Vincent looked at her sister. “Put them somewhere. You don’t have to give them to her.” “I’ll give them to her,” Katy scowled, “a

Simon didn't expect to be pulled close to Alice by Knox and Tristan. He had a fair idea of what was happening, since Alice had explained the game to him once when they were at Knox's party years ago, but he was confused because the options were drinking or a forfeit fee. "What is happening?" he asked. "Kiss me for one minute and save me." Alice pleaded with Simon. "How much do you need to pay?" Simon asked. "Nice try." Knox patted his shoulder. "We are not making it easier for her. She has to drink or kiss someone for a minute." Tristan spoke. "Not my wife," Riley added. "I have a meeting at seven," Alice smiled at him awkwardly. "If you can't, I can ask someone." At the mention of someone else, Simon leaned to Alice's level and kissed her. It was a fiery kiss. Their tongues were at odds with each other. It wasn't supposed to feel like this. It was an addicting kiss that wouldn't be quenched in a minute. He needed more. She needed more. "Okay," Megan pulled Simon back, "It's

Alice groaned when someone shook her. She stirred, but the male laughter made her open her eyes. She jerked her body up, revealing her naked upper body. She quickly pulled the sheets over herself and closed her eyes and sighed. “Good morning,” Simon chuckled. “Morning,” Alice yawned, hiding her face behind her hair. “Alice,” Simon moved closer to her, “Why are you hiding?” “Shit,” Alice sprung up, pulling the sheets, “I’m late.” Simon grabbed Alice and pulled her back to his chest. “Are you trying to use this as an escape and run?” “No,” Alice scoffed, “I’m late. I have a meeting.” “It’s Saturday.” “I know, but I have a meeting,” “Hmm,” Simon spun Alice around and pulled her hair away from her face, “Open your eyes,” Alice shook her head, “Look at me, Al.” Simon calling her Al again made Alice look at him. His gray eyes held mischief. “I know the first time we were together you ran away from me?” “I’m not running,” Alice whispered. “Then why are you avoiding my gaze?” h

The romantic phase Simin and Alice had been in was over and they were both back with the outside words. Simon dropped Alice at her house and went to his club to check a few things before he went to see his mother, as he had promised her yesterday. “He is alive,” Alan looked up at him as he walked in. “Don’t you have a house of your own?” Simon glared at his friend. “For someone who spent two nights with a woman. I would have expected better,” Alan shook his head, “And you should thank me.” “Why?” Simon scoffed. “Why do you look like you were not laid?” “What do you want from me?” Simon raised his brow, looking tired. “A thank you for starters would be nice,” Alan placed his phone in his pocket. “You owe me that much.” “You have free alcohol and access to this place,” Simon added, walking away. Alan jumped and ran in front of his friend and carefully stared at him. “Did Al reject you?” “Her name is Alice, not Al,” Simon sidestepped and moved again. “Oh man. I’ll make you som
