Skylar's POVI mean it, Sky.I woke up with a start, those strange words ringing faintly in my ears. And then someone knocked on the door loudly-my bedroom door."Skylar, wake up!"I blinked open my eyes groggily and sat up. A small groan escaped my lips at the bright sunlight as I tried rubbing the drowsiness from my face. Looking around, I realized I was in my room. And then everything came crashing down upon me. Literally."Geez." I whispered, clutching onto my head. I couldn't even explain how bad my head ached at that moment. My throat had go

Skylar's POV This was my fifth and the final attempt to open the car door, which in that moment was all I could opt for, even if the car was moving. I was so sure I'd get out this time. So sure. But to my utter dismay, the door didn't budge at all."Open the fucking door, Caden!" I shouted in frustration. He glanced at me from the driver's seat and just that one glance told me how much he was regretting bringing me along with him. Which brought me back to the fact that he had dragged me out of school against my will, during my only free period, and forced me to get inside his car as he drove to God knows where."I'm not opening it, Anderson." He muttered, looking into the rearview mirror.I tried opening the door again

Skylar's POV We ended up somewhere that looked like a rugged, old town. It wasn't our town, mainly because it was deserted and way too small. I wanted to leave this place, but when I saw a store nearby I had to practically beg Caden to stop there. My feet were killing me at this point. The shopkeeper was kind enough to lend his phone charger for Caden's phone and I was more than thankful to find a chair to sit down on."Thank you for letting us stay." I directed a small, grateful smile towards the shopkeeper as Caden walked inside the shop. The shopkeeper guy, who was alm

Skylar's POV I spent the next few hours wandering around the abandoned house. I made sure to walk into every single corner in the house, admiring the old fashioned architecture and the antique tapestries. It was beautiful in a way. I didn't really see Caden around though, except when I went back to the lounge again. After that, I spent my time upstairs. The corridor upstairs was a bit more creepy; cobwebs strewn across the ceiling, gold-carved lamps on the walls, and every door that I opened upstairs turned out to be a room with a perfectly made bed. Maybe the people who used to live here had OCD or something. Everything was so clean. Unlike my own room.

Skylar's POVThere were security cameras now; security cameras in my house, all thanks to mom and dad. That was the only thing I got out of their return. That's the only thing they did before going away again.I was surprised, though. Why did they even care? And although mom had asked me to call her back after hearing her voicemails, I hadn't done that. I didn't want to.I looked down at my Physics textbook, exhaling a deep sigh of irritation. Chicken came out of nowhere and started nuzzling her head against my knee, letting out few soft purrs."Chicks, please try to shut up that sweet mouth of yours." I muttered, flipping a page. It almost seemed like I was dyslexic; all the words jumbling up and blurring in front of me, making absolutely no sense."Okay." I whispered to myself. "So if the velocity is zero,

Skylar's POV"Hey." I greeted as I slid inside Alex's car, passing him a small smile.Though, he didn't smile back, he just frowned. "Where the heck—""Somewhere." I interrupted him, knowing clearly well what he was about to ask. "I know you're mad at me for not letting you know where I was going, but it was so sudden; an emergency. I had to go, and I didn't have my phone with me to call you."I was silently hoping that it'd be enough and he'd let this topic go, and to my relief, he just shook his head and started the car, changing the topic. "How's your Physics's preparation?"I inwardly smiled and placed my backpack on my lap. "It's good." It was more than good actually.I busied myself quickly braiding my hair since I didn't get the chance to do it back at home. I hadn't exactly woke

Skylar's POVI kept on pounding on the door but to my absolute horror, nobody responded. All I could hear at that point was my own racing heartbeat.I inhaled deeply and stopped the failing attempt to shout out for help. Stepping away from the door, I took out my phone from my back pocket, not failing to notice how much my hands were shaking at that moment. I knew I could simply call anyone and get out of here, but I was still scared and out of breath. I was basically panicking. And I didn't even think there were any windows in here for fresh air.Scrolling through my contacts, I tried searching for Alex's name. But my hands were sweaty and trembling, and it wasn't a surprise when my phone slipped out of my grasp, falling down. I immediately fell down on my knees and picked it up.I

Skylar's POV"What did Hanna say?" I asked Alex before throwing myself on his bed, looking up at the ceiling. He tossed his school bag on his desk and sat down beside me, letting out a deep sigh."I didn't ask her out.""What?" I passed him a confused frown. "Why? You both are good friends now. Do you need me to tell her that you're in love with her?"He let out a groan and pulled up a pillow over his face. "I wanted to ask her but...I can't. What if—" He stopped, lost in thought. I glanced over at him and realized that he did seem a bit miserable with this whole situation. Stressed out on what, that's what I didn't know. He didn't have to fear rejection unlike me; he was pretty good when it came to girls."What if she freaks out?" He asked after a while.

Skylar's POVNobody was in the house except Chicken and I. I didn't know whether I should've felt relieved or the exact opposite when I found that out, especially since there was a piece of black tape still covering one of the wall cameras.Even the alarm system was disabled by itself, and I was sure I hadn't done that before leaving for school. Things felt confusing. I wanted to call mom or maybe even the police, but I stopped myself from doing any such thing. Not when dad was still in the hospital. Both Chicken and I perked up in alarm the moment we heard the doorbell ringing. However, it was Chicken who was the first one to reach the door.As if she even knew how to open it.I didn't know why I had to think about it for few seconds before standing up and walking towards the

Skylar's POVWhen I woke up, Caden wasn't there.Everything was right where I had left it last night, even Chicken was still asleep. The only change around me was his absense –which for some reason was quite obvious– and for a second, it felt like he wasn't even here last night. As I gazed around the empty house, trying to rub off the sleep from my face, I saw that the wooden box was right where I had left it yesterday; in front of me at the table.I slumped back against the couch and rubbed my eyes this time.Well, there's that; trust. Caden could've taken that box with him, but h
