"You wouldn't have insisted that Brian excused us if something wasn't wrong. Please tell me what it is?" She pleaded. Laurel moved closer to Vanessa where she sat and intertwined her hand with hers. "I don't know how to say this, Vanessa. It's meant to be good news but due to circumstances, I don't think it's right to term it as good news." 

After Laurel had instructed a maid to take dinner to her room, She proceeded to Brian's suite. She met him seated, pouring himself a glass of red wine. Laurel took a seat beside him. "How is she?" He asked as he turned his attention to her. 

Brian plopped down on the couch beside him. Suddenly, he felt hot. He felt as if someone was choking him so he loosened his tie. Not feeling comfortable where he was seated, he rose to his feet and started pacing up and down, running his fingers harshly through his hair. "It has to be a lie. There's no way Vanessa is pregnant. I've always been careful during intercourse. I'm so damn sure the baby isn't mine." He tried to convince himself. Unconsciously, the memory of his last conversation with Laurel came rushing back.
