Chapter 11: Just a year and a few months
JUST A YEAR AND A FEW MONTHS The duo had left the Cafe two hours later. The conversation would have stretched further if only Charlie hadn't cut it short. Deedah's boss had blown up her phone countless of times while they were there. The black woman wasn't bothered at all. She'd just roll her eyes at the screen and cut off the volume. Not wanting to render her best-friend jobless, Charlie had brought up the excuse of making lunch. It wasn't much of an excuse if she actually has to make lunch in a few minutes. Mama Freya wasn't out by the time she got back. Looking at her garden, Charlie shudders. 'I can't even look at her garden the same way...' Walking around the house, Charlie picks up the trimmers and watering can that was bundle up the side of the wall. Chapter 14: He's not worth it
HE'S NOT WORTH IT The Denisons preferred to arrive fashionably late. What did Charlie expect from a dramatic couple? The wait wasn't long, maybe forty-five minutes to one hour but hey, who's counting? Charlie doesn't understand why she's so riled up to meet their client. Maybe it's because one of the client is her ex-boyfriend. Her hot sexy ex-boyfriend. The doorbell rings and Charlie's head snaps towards its direction. The tiny flicker of hope evaporated when a short woman struts in with her ridiculously wide purse.  The ginger head huffs loudly before her eyes trials to her boss; the man currently gobbling down his second plate of food. Chapter 15: A step closer
A STEP CLOSER"I take it the meeting didn't go well?"At least, Tristan's teasing—but concerned—voice was able to add a tinge of color in her grey day. Coupled with her stressful meeting, the taxi she'd boarded developed a fault in the middle of the road so she had to walk back home in the cold. Without a coat.Charlie sighs, "You can say that again."She drops her bag and heads straight to the refrigerator where she pulls out a can of soda and downs it in one go.Fuck brain-freeze.Tristan chuckles from his spot on the couch, "I made dinner.""Oh my God, tha—" She grunts loudly. Mrs. Pulgo raises her hand to ring the doorbell but Charles tugs it back forcefully. "Mama, I wanna ring it!"
