THE NECESSARY COURAGE
Caroline’s POV:I spent the day after the meeting in my small office, thinking with some of the lords about the names I would list. Lord Hammond was a fair and balanced man, and he could never be replaced by some mat that my father and Lord Deveraux would choose. I really enjoyed the fact that I was given the opportunity to have a voice on the board, but I knew that much more than the names would weigh on this list. They were testing my political skills here, and I definitely could not be considered by them as less than highly capable. There were a few names on the list, and I knew it should not be long, but impactful. There was, first, David Hammond, whom I could make lord in his father's place. He was a good guy, but maybe he was considered too young. I also liked the idea of Lord Clark, a slightly older man who had been a member of the council and had resigned to take care of his wife's health when she became

THE SECRET NAME
Caroline’s POV:The shelter we were placed in was as good as the shelter I had been placed in with Stephan. Lucille had told me that employee shelters were as safe as shelters for the royal family, but they were far less comfortable and more crowded. As a princess, I was always guided to the right places, but Lucille was compelled to know all the routes to the closest shelters for my safety, especially, so even if I did not get to a shelter for royalty, it was her priority to guide me to the nearest safe location. The worst part about being in a shelter like this is that since it was practically a vault, even though we were safe where we were, we did not have any news from the outside world. There was only a small wall clock in the corner, some supplies, and blankets. It was comfortable, but we were completely isolated."These attacks are getting more and more frequent," I muttered complaining. I had already faced some sporadic attacks in my childhood, but

THE STROLL IN THE GARDENS
Liam’s POV:I can't believe the rebels decided to attempt an invasion of the palace at that time. I was very sympathetic to their cause, but they spoiled the perfect moment. I didn't care that there were others in the kitchen. I just wish I had enjoyed that moment with Olivia. She is so beautiful and so sweet. Sometimes too innocent for her own good, but I wouldn't change a hair of hers. Maybe I was falling for her, and I wondered if this wasn't the best thing that had happened so far in my life. The events that followed can be defined with just one adjective: chaotic. I asked her to be safe, she nodded and I left her there. As I saw that she didn't take long to get up, I concluded that she had sought shelter in time, so I trusted heaven for her safety and headed to the front lines. My instinct would be to protect her, not necessarily the crown, but I had to do my duty. Military disobedience never has good consequences.

THE DECEPTION
Caroline’s POV:"What do you mean, do you have an administrator relative?" I asked him in a joking tone."No, I was on my town council too, until I went to the Independent Revolutionaries," He told me, his chest puffing out with pride. When I heard those words come out of Liam's mouth, I was sure I couldn't hide my disappointment in him. Being involved in politics was one thing. Fighting government actions through local policies was to be part of a fair fight. But linking up with independent revolutionaries? This was bad. Too bad."What did I say?" He asked me still dumbfounded. He still did not know how serious it was that he was one of the revolutionaries.I shook my head in disappointment and muttered to him, "Those words of yours could land you in prison for life or even execution. You need to be careful.""I know," he told me trying to explain himself, and then continued, "That's

THE MIDDLE GROUND
Liam’s POV:I was discovering a new side of Olivia, but I didn't know if I liked that side of her or not. I've always wished that the woman standing next to me was brave and would fight for the same ideals as me, but apparently, she had taken the opposite side of me completely. What would this mean in terms of the relationship? Is this a deal breaker in our case? However, I thought I could still bring reason to her mind. If I had had the opportunity to explain why I thought that way maybe she could see that I'm right. The problem is, she practically ran away from me without letting me explain anything. She was like that sometimes. A certain time or a certain event and she fled to her place of origin as if she were Cinderella who had to get home at midnight before she fell away from her spell.Either way, my decision to join the Independent Revolutionaries was solid. I was part of the local group at home, and now I would be part of the main and largest of t

THE DISCUSSION
Caroline’s POV:As we were riding the horse, I remembered the question Liam had asked me: "Why don't you go into the stable?" and I gave the best excuse I could come up with at the time, saying that I didn't like horses very much. While this is true, I actually had more than one reason: I didn't want one of the grooms to recognize me either. Usually, I tried to stay away from anyone who might recognize me, and one of the grooms would definitely do it. But now we were past that stage and we were riding forward fast. Well, it might be a lope for some, but for me, we were at full speed.I liked the lake. I had come here a few times, it was a quiet place. The day was beautiful, so there was no reason to spend that time with Liam inside the castle and shrouded in its icy walls when there was so much to do outside. We enjoyed the day and talked for a while. We laughed a lot, too. But by that time the sun was setting and even though he thought our issues were set

THE WAREHOUSE
Liam’s POV: A few days had passed after my walk with Olivia and our conversation that reconciled us and I felt lighter because now we weren't fighting anymore. Every day we managed to see each other even for a few minutes at a time, and those moments became my favorite moments of the day. I was like a lovesick puppy and even my soldier friends noticed that I was different, and they often even made fun of me because of my change, but I cared very little about all this fuss, if at all. If I could see that beautiful smile of the girl that I loved at the end of my day it would all have been worth it.The atmosphere between us was so good that we didn't fight for practically anything else, and when the little fights happened, they were meaningless and most of the time weren't offensive: they were just teasing the other. We were both in a healthy relationship dynamic where we laughed at each other, but respected and got to know each other. I had recently thought

THE BOY
Liam’s POV:"So...?" I asked them still waiting for a straight answer because they were still looking at my face with smirks. I know that they were pondering about the task they would give me, but I was losing my patience waiting for their answer. After a few more moments Steppenwolf finally broke the silence and said, "We need you to steal from the Palace an object that is of some importance to the monarchs," and after he said that several faces around us smirked once more."And what kind of object would that be?" I asked curiously."Well, we haven't decided yet, but it has to be important to the king, the queen, or the princess. It could be relevant documents or some money, or even a piece of jewelry or a relic. If it's an object of value, that we can sell it, it would be even better!" Steppenwolf said excitedly."So, are you talking about jewelry or something?" I asked him to confirm he was hearing right."Well, Tresoria intelligenc

THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM
Caroline's POV:"Here you go," I told Liam half grudgingly and handed over the handkerchief that wrapped the jewelry. I thought if I put it in a handkerchief it would have a touch of mystery, like I was actually handing something stolen. So I looked around and kept whispering, "I just hope this is your first and only attempt to rob the palace. I won't condone this kind of behavior."Liam opened the handkerchief and looked at the brooch. His eyes gleamed at the gem's opulence. He smiled at me and said, "Thank you so much, Olivia. You saved my ass, and I'm sure this brooch will be of great value to the cause."I crossed my arms in a disdainful tone and told him, "Huh, I hope this is worth it, because I don't like the fact that you're joining this cause at all." I said 'cause' with as much contempt and suspicion as I could. After that, I couldn't help but ask, "So what happens now?" I was too curious to pretend to not want to know anything.Liam thoug

THE STORM
Caroline’s POV:If I really was being responsible, I would have stopped that afternoon and figured out a way to tell Liam my secret. I needed to be honest with him and he needed him to hear from me who I really was. Lucille was right, I was wasting precious time deluding myself and thinking I could carry on this farce indefinitely. If I was really responsible, but I wasn’t because as soon as I read Stephan's note I ignored the gift and this cloud that was hanging over my head and didn't think of any way to tell Liam about me.The next day I would only have time to meet him in the middle of his shift at some interval. I was buried in state meetings with my father and the Lord Councilors. We talked about everything: from agriculture to industry and education. The lords were believers that a radical reform must take place in the kingdom. Rebel attacks were more and more frequent in the provinces and there was more and more revolt. The scenario was definitely n
