The Proposition
A month had passed since Julian had left with his birth mother to England and Sylvia’s due date was fast approaching, with only three weeks to go until the baby was here. It was now 2pm and the October heat was starting to cool down and the weather was now bearable as Sylvia walked up the hill by the homestead where Sadie and Paul were sitting on the lush grass. Sadie smiled as Paul helped her friend to a nearby log to rest before Sylvia said “ you both have been wonderful since I arrived here including helping with building my house right next to yours amongst other things. I have known you both for over twenty years and I have watched you two go through things that no couple should ever have to go through. Sadie, I know how much you want to raise a child and I have something that I wanted to ask you both. I’ve made up my mind a while ago after giving this a lot of thought and all I need now is an answer. “ Paul grasps his wife’s hand as he motions for Sadie to go on. Sylvi

The Arrival
Sooner than expected the Carson’s leave on a trip to the nearby town to get more supplies for the clinic as well as a few goats for the farm. The next night, Sylvia is at her new home after moving in two days prior and is sitting in the rocking chair that Paul just finished carving for her. She is lost in her book when her child moves within her before giving a sharp kick to her abdomen. Sylvia rubs her stomach lovingly right before a pain overtakes the young woman causing her to groan. She lets her grip loose from the armrest a few minutes later as she says “okay, baby, please not now. Let’s wait until your parents get back from their trip before you make your entrance.” A second contraction hits twenty minutes later as Sylvia fills the tub with hot water. She is about to get in the full tub as her water breaks. Sylvia grips the sides of the tub as the contractions get closer together. Her knees begin to shake as she realizes that it's time. Soon, Sylvia breathed deeply as

The Baby
As soon as everything was cleaned up and both mother and baby were warm as well as dressed, Sylvia sat down in the rocking chair once more. The baby was soon brought to its mother’s breast as she took in every single detail of her newborn daughter: her little nose was the spitting image of Phillip’s along with her blue eyes, but her lips as well as her curly red hair was all from her mother. Sylvia watched as her daughter who she named Elizabeth Louisa latched onto her mother’s breast for her first meal. The only sounds that could be heard in the home where that of Elizabeth eating and Sylvia humming a lullaby that her mother, Penelope used to sing to her when she was little. Oh, how she missed her mother.

Two days later in the wee hours of the morning Elizabeth laid on her mother’s bare chest as she read over the letter once more “Dear Phillip, I hope this letter finds you well. Their Surprise
A month had passed since Elizabeth was born and Sylvia was dancing around the kitchen with her daughter after the morning feeding as Lucy lay in the parlor. Sylvia smiles as opens the door and goes outside with her daughter for the first time as Lucy follows closely behind. A few minutes later the couple come out of the barn as Sylvia walks over to them. The Station
Twenty years later, Elizabeth comes out of the large clinic that she now owns in the busy town in Cork, Ireland as she breathes in the salty sea air. The young woman tucked a small strand of reddish brown hair behind her left ear as she started to make her way over to the car that Nathan, her husband of two years, just bought her a month prior for their family as well as to help Elizabeth get to her beloved patients faster. Soon, Elizabeth is at the station as she waits anxiously for the incoming train. Ten minutes later, at the station Nathan steps over the train tracks as he helps his six year old daughter, Norah Rose Williams-Holden as she unsuccessfully tries to hop over the tracks. Elizabeth smiles softly as Norah runs ahead of her father into her warm embrace a moment later. Not soon enough for the small family, the train finally pulls into the station. Once the train comes to a complete stop, a gentleman with greying hair steps off the platform after a middle aged cou

Together at Last
Elizabeth starts to pace when she notices that the sea of loved ones begin to clear from the station as she wonders to herself quietly where could they be? Why aren’t they here? Did they miss the train? Nathan gently squeezes his wife’s hand with his free hand when he starts to sense that his love is beginning to get nervous. Soon, the young woman stops her pacing and looks at the few people still getting off the train before her face lights up as she says “mama, papa! You're finally here! We have so much to show and tell you.” Sadie runs to her now grown daughter as soon as she’s safely on the ground and hugs her before saying “ oh, my dear Lizzie. It has been far too long.” Norah Rose lets out a high pitched squeal as her grandfather, Paul picks her up after hugging Elizabeth and swings the little girl high above his head as her father puts the luggage in the truck.

A few moments later, an older woman sneaks over to the family before tapping Elizabeth on the shoulder. Nathan picks up Norah Rose as Elizabeth turns around and exclaims “auntie Sylvia!” Sadie smiles as she hugs her old friend as Sylvia turns back to the platform as an older gentleman waves to her before joining the family at Sylvia’s side. Paul shakes the man’s hand as he puts his free hand around his wife’s waist once more. The man kisses Sylvia’s forehead as she says “ Elizabeth, this is Phillip. We’re getting married. “ Everyone congratulates the couple while Elizabeth gives a quick kiss to her godmother’s now wrinkled cheek.
