20: Long overdue recompense
Liam is a beta from the South. He survived an attack on his former pack, the harmony pack, and after being rescued and taken care of by the Rogue pack, he joined us. It's been three years and despite the challenges and pain that came with that decision, he has remained loyal to us. "It won't be so long anymore," I assure him, reaching to place a firm hand on his shoulder and together we step out of the room. Rachel and Ian stand outside the hotel which I lodge, looking set for today just like they promise and I nod at them before heading towards my car. The door to my Kia motor opens and Liam and I step into it. The driver drives us off immediately, already knowing the address, and Ian and Rachel's black Toyota car follow behind us. This is the first step in changing all our lives and we will do it together. The car comes to a stop before the massive tower belonging to Starling Heights company. The company ranks amongst the top five in the north-centr

21: Torn between the two
Jaclyn's POV We received information about a general meeting for the students chosen for the Go Project and it would take place today. So, I planned to meet up with Ken at his place with the hope of us going together. It's five days since prom and with every day that passes, the project commencement draws closer. Based on my calculations, we should be at the school before the program begins. We didn't talk about the kiss we shared on prom night. I wanted to, but Ken put little mind to it and I didn't feel like I should either. But I think about it almost every day. I might have been the oldest amongst my peers at the Academy, but there are still a lot of things I'm yet to experience compared to them. You get little luck with guys when you've had the 'weird one' written all over you. I, however, think having Ken as a friend is a miracleI don't want to ruin what we have by bringing the kiss up, and I've ch

22: A matter of time
My breath grows rigid and my hands become sweaty. The pull I felt towards Ken a while ago disappeared into thin air and my stomach tightens in a bad way. It feels almost as if Dane just caught me doing something I shouldn't and within a second, I become disoriented to the point Ken notices. "Is something wrong?" he asks, dragging my attention from Dane at the door back to him.  "Uh? No, nothing is wrong." I lie and despite knowing I did, he doesn't push for reasons.  My gaze race to look back behind him to where Dane stood a moment ago, and I don't find him there anymore.  This is one reason Dane scares me. I haven't seen him since our encounter at the library. I didn't expect to, not after I subtly told him I didn't want him around me. What he does to me whenever he is nearby contributed to my decision of keeping him as far away from me as possible.  "We should go in," I tell Ken, and he nods. From the look

23: The road that matters
Tomorrow is our graduation, and today has been hectic from beginning to end. I had to run from school, then back home and then I left to get what to wear for the event. Ken came by and picked me up so we could go shopping together and brought me back home once we did. I got nothing fancy, just a red sundress while he got a blue three-piece suit. I had my cast taken off today and my arm feels free and knowing I wouldn’t be wearing a cast while I give my graduation speech tomorrow makes me feel so much better.  I step into the bathroom to shower and get sleep for the night. The cold water descends on my skin and my lips quiver and a few seconds later, it warms up against my skin. I sigh and relax my palms against the bathroom wall, thinking about the road so far at Unique Academy. I remember my first day there and how excited I was. I remember writing the exams with hopes I get in and how excited I looked when mama and I got the news of my acceptance and s

24: In the midst of excitement
He looks alluring as always in his black two-piece suit and trousers and a grey tie matching his grey eyes behind his glasses. His face has a clean-cut and a few locks of his hair fell over his face and it takes all effort to not reach for it and brush it off. I still feel like he’s avoiding me just like he did a few days ago, but now, unlike then, his expression and aura appear milder. His eyes meet mine and the intensity of his gaze holds mine hostage just like always and my whole body comes alive as if I’ve been a light bulb waiting to be lit up by him.I didn’t expect to see him at the ceremony. I should have, but I figured he would have much better things to do. Silly me.“Mr Vixon, I’m so glad you could make it.” Comes Mrs Adams cheerful acknowledgement, which pulled me out of my thought to see her stretching a hand to him for a formal shake.I look away and I notice Ken watching me from the cor

25: All roads leads back
My lashes pull apart at the ray of sunlight penetrating through the white thin curtain at the window and illuminating the room.A long moan leaves my mouth as I twist and turn in bed, coming into consciousness of my surrounding. I spend the next minute that passes staring up at my white painted ceiling, giving it my undivided attention because I have all the time in the world. Graduation was a few days ago, so I'm home with nothing to do but to be lazy around. I am, however, not complaining.I drag myself up to sit down on the bed and I run my hand over my face then turn around to check the time. Seven forty-nine a.m. reads the time."Jaclyn, I'm off to work. Your breakfast is in the kitchen." Mama's voice came charging into my room. "Okay, ma, thank you. Have a great day at work.""Thank you, stay safe." I hear the door shut and I know she already left. I sigh. I guess I'll start my day off cleaning my room and the house and the

26: Effect of sight
My heartbeat skips when the voice, which I know very well asks, and I pause in my steps and turn back around. This time I see Dane up the stair naked from the waist up.My breath becomes rigorous as my eyes scan him from the head down his broad shoulders, hard chest covered with a few golden dark hairs. His refined abs toned and his muscles rigid. I can't see him from so far away but I can tell there is a faint treasure line that starts from his navel, travelling to the centre of his narrow hips where the waistband of his joggers is. I notice both sides of his rib are covered with tattoos and looking back up, I see that his arms and shoulder also bears the dark inks that although I can't see the end, I assume it goes to his back.Since we crossed paths, I've always seen him in long sleeve shirts or suits and I never would have thought a man like him would have a thing for tattoos.Curiosity clouds my senses and I want to know why he's all inked up and also why h

27: What we don't know
"Is mama here?" I beg, going back to the reason I even came here, to begin with. My need to get out of his presence has now become urgent."Yes, she's upstairs cleaning up a room. Do you wish to see her?"Why else am I here?I nod. "I brought her lunch, she forgot it at home." "You didn't have to. I usually feed my workers well."That's nice to know. "Besides, there's always more in the kitchen." He, however, beckons me to follow him and I do just that, and together we make our way up the stairs. "I didn't know she was cleaning your home, I didn't know you had a home in our town." He stuffs his hands into his pocket, "I was born here and would like to get in touch with my home town. It is also welcoming and has nice and friendly people compared to the city side. Wanting to stay longer wouldn't be so bad." "Who would be in charge of your other companies?"He stops moving when he gets t

28: The long road of friendship
I step into the garage where Aliyah had told me Ken was working on his motorbike. And I see him bent while loosening the plug of the bike, wearing a sky blue polo and black trousers. I submitted my resignation letter to the library last week and today is my last day there. The trial begins Monday and so I will need to place more focus on that, with hopes to do better. I have also submitted my signed Go Project agreement file back to the academy, and I knew nothing awaited me at home except sleep and a few chores, so I visited Ken. I tried to reach him and tell him about my plans to visit as I usually do, but he had tucked his phone somewhere far from him. After calling for the third time, I threw caution to the wind and came over instead, hoping he would be at home.Graduation was last week, and I got a few offers from various universities, and some even offered scholarship programs, but already being a part of the Go Project and guaranteed full scholarship cover

I am in the kitchen, making dinner yam porridge dinner with mama when the doorbell rings.“Are you expecting someone?” mama asks, her brow rising.I shake my head, my face folding as I try to recall if I am forgetting something.“Not that I know of,” I mumble before heading over to the door when its bell rings the second time. “Who’s it?” I ask but receive no response from the one at the door.I notice a small white slip pushed through under my door, and I picked it up to read it.Trial Day #1: The Go Project package is in the box.I flip the back of the paper and I see Jaclyn S. Tarr boldly written on it.I reach for the doorknob and open the door before stepping out, but I see no one.
