31: Bad Taste
I have heard those words in a movie, but the man wasn't any other ordinary being. He was more than that. That is why I think it's ridiculous."How can you be so certain? Are you a supernatural being with inhuman abilities?" I chuckled to mock him. But he didn't speak. He was facing front, static for several seconds. And I didn't have enough courage to interfere on his sudden silence."Are... you mad with me again?" I asked carefully. I didn't mean any offense. It was supposed to be a joke."No," he finally answered. I was relieved."Hold on to me now, Eve. Make sure it's tight enough."He made the engine roar again. I immediately wrapped my arms around his waist, afraid that I might fall if I won't hold tight enough. It would be a terrible fall, I'm sure. It earned a chuckle from him."Not too tight, please.""Oh! I'm sorry..." My cheeks burned and quickly loosened my arms on him.

32: I've Done My Part
"Why did you bring me here?" I asked, staring at the wide forest park in front of me. The cedars' leaves with different shades of green made the place appear so alive. The leaves dance with every gust of the wind.I've seen the place once. Mommy and I once passed by here when I was just visiting her. I didn't have the chance to wander around, though. As what I've remembered, she told me it's Lynnwood's largest park."Because I think you haven't explored Lynnwood yet," Carter replied from behind me.After we went to the mall we ate at a café before he brought me here. Unlike before, I was no longer so scared of riding his motor. He did not fail to calm me down. I was calmed by that. There was something in his presence that told me I'd be safe as long as he's beside me. It was strange but somehow comforting."This is Lynndale park, about 40 acres with forest amphitheater, baseball fields, tennis courts, skate park and walking trails. I was thinking i

33: Confirmed
I swallowed hard, trying to keep my composure in spite of the painful lump in my throat. "So you don't want to be friend with me nor talk to me this close anymore. Is that what you mean?""Yes," he said icily. He's indeed heartless."After you asked me for lunch, after you asked me to be your date in the ball, after showing so much concern to me, after you went out with me today, you would cut the ties just like that?" I asked through gritted teeth but with controlled voice. I could barely contain the trembling of my lips."It was all out of pity, Eve. I asked you to be my date on the ball because I knew no one will."Fuck."You could have just left me alone, then. You shouldn't have meddled in my life on the first place if you only planned to throw me out whenever you'd want to."He growled. "I'm not throwing you out. This is for the best, Everleigh. You should just let it go."I smirked and clenched my fist on my side. "Of course. D

34: Out of Pity
Although the warmth from his ironclad body was giving me comfort, his scent was very much distracting that I had to struggle not to lean closer to him."You should have just let me walk. I was only sprained, not paralyzed.""That would only delay the treatment. The hospital is near here, we can go there instead."I frowned. "I don't want to be in the hospital.""How come you're a nursing student, then?" His lips rose for a smirk, only very quick that I had to question myself if it really happened."Not as a patient, I mean."He stopped talking and went straight to where Diavel was parked. He drove so fast, I could only see the sides of the roads like a fast moving light. I can't even look at the trees around me. Though, I didn't feel scared this time. His entire presence was enough to make me feel safe. When he parked in front of our house, the door immediately opened just after a

35: Just the Truth
The room was dark and very silent, I had to blink my eyes several times to make sure it was wide open. I grasp what I was wearing, and I noticed I was still on my pajamas. I looked around, hoping to see a glimpse of light but I didn't. I was overwhelmed with dread, no one knew why I was there in a place of eternal darkness and loneliness.I wasn't horrified of the idea that I was in the darkness, I was scared of what could happen to me while I see nothing but a total black. I was scared something would just attack me or I'll fall when I walk for a few meters.Apparently, in the middle of all the thoughts, a light shone not so far, just about three or four meters away. I can't see where the light came from. And I didn't have the chance to think about it because the next second, I turned static, very surprised when I saw who was standing under the white light. It was Carter. But he looked different. No, his clothes looked diff

36: Not a Chance
When Carter entered the class, my eyes and mind were immediately focused on him. He was wearing the Med students' shirt, looking dazzling as ever. Though, he looked a lot more intense today. His emotionless eyes had not even once looked at me. He just stood there, talking in front coldly like I don't exist at all.He really stands by the decision. He don't want any connection with me anymore. He didn't want to talk to me or even look at me. He wants us to be a total stranger to each other, regardless of everything that happened. I could still accept his inconsistent treatment of me if I had done something wrong. But in our case, I didn't. I don't even understand him. For a minute, he would give me a hint of concern, the next moment he has another mood. He is like climate change, quiet unpredictable."He seems in a bad mood, what do you think?" Irish whispered.I shrugged. I know nothing about his personality disor

37: Not Just a Myth
As soon as my last class ended, I quickly ascended from my chair and fixed my things in the fastest pace I can. Right after, I left the room and soon, the building. I was about to message Carter that I'm already outside Edmonds, when I saw him leaning on his Diavel, just in the school's driveway.I took a deep breath, thinking that he would never talk again. But I guess he was too eager to know about the dream I had, he can't let it slip."Carter," I greeted.I glanced around and saw the curious glares from the students passing by. Clearly, this is not the right place to have a talk about something confidential."Perhaps, can we talk in somewhere private?" I suggested. He didn’t speak anymore and just handed me the black helmet. It was supposed to be his, but he was only has one helmet today. I would have asked how what he would use but I immediately bit my tongue remembering that he didn't need i

38: Only Silence
I thought his beauty beyond natural is only a coincidence, as well as his weird accent sometimes like he's from another time. I thought it was all just in my imagination that he could read my mind, and his eyes can glow or darken. Now, I know better. This is the truth. The part of reality which is beyond natural. For a minute, silence took over between us. His face was blank while staring at me so I can't say if he was mad or what. I just stared at him, waiting for him to speak. I actually have a lot of questions for him, but I decided to take one step at a time. I can't afford him losing his cool because of my nosiness of his supposed to be private life."What are you thinking?" He finally spoke, I can almost taste the disdain in his voice dripping like acid."I thought you could read minds?""I can," he admitted. I fight the urge to smile because he's starting to open up with me."Then why are you ask

39: Feeling Bothered
"Are you feeling fine? You look sick," Mom pointed out when we had our breakfast the next morning. Felix was out early so it was only the two of us."I'm fine," I answered plainly, trying to lighten up my mood. The truth is, I didn't sleep soundly last night. The noise from the rain was one thing, but my talk with Carter also bothered me. I thought I'd have my peace of mind once I confirm what he is, but last night, I couldn't help thinking about him. And I know I should start disregarding thoughts about him in respect to what we both agreed with. I should keep my word to never bother him again."Hello, Eve. Heard the news?" Irish said once I was on my seat. She usually arrives in the classroom earlier than me, sometimes earlier than everyone, even."News? What news?" I shook my head because I really don't know."Carter is not going to be the substitute of Dr. Rellis anymore. Another professor will take

40: Red and Blazing
"I heard from Helen that Jaxon is back. She said he decided to just study here. Have you two met?" Mom asked later that night."Yeah, I met him. He was in school," I answered while cutting onions. Mom and I used to do this when I visit her. She cooks while I assist her in cutting the vegetables and meats."Good that you have someone you know. Got some friends aside from him?""Well…" I don't really want to lie but I don't want to bother her with my situation in school, so I just said, "Yeah, I have a few. I'm still adjusting, so…" I shrugged and continued cutting the onions."That is good, then. You know, I was kinda worried that it would be hard for you to live here since there are a lot of adjustments to do. But I guess you are good so far." She nodded to herself and smiled while flipping the frying pan.I also didn't tell Dad whatever is happening to me here. The least thing I want is t
