Chapter 31 RUBIN“What is that?” Aeon asked me as soon as I finished pinning the paper on the cold cupboard – I mean, fridge. “Just some important – stuff.” I shrugged my shoulder and wearily observed him as he squinted at the paper before taking it off, “Hey!” I tried to snatch it away from his hands but he was way too tall. He began reading, “One, a cupid has a mission to be done here on earth hence the gods should allow her to complete it. Oh, there’s no problem about that. I allow you to proceed,” he smirks before reading the next one. “Two, A cupid has a wish to be one with the Gaeans and experience everything the earth has to offer consequently, the cupid should be allowed to spend some time outside. Oho! That will be a little bit of a challenge considering that I have to observe you at certain times but it can be plausible – I’ll see to this if we could,” He huff, checking the paper again, “Three, a cupid has a desire to feel precious and loved, therefore she asked for leis

Chapter 32RUBIN“It’s far too late – the factory closes at 6 pm and they are currently in a meeting about the product. Let’s go down and check the stations while they are gone.” I raised a brow and tried to see pass the darkness only to sigh, following him out of the room. I was quickly intoxicated by the scent of something so fragrant, wafting in my nose, as though it was the very air we are breathing in. “What is a factory and what products are you talking about? And what’s that smell? It’s intoxicating.” “Oh, I’m sorry, it definitely slipped my mind that you are ignorant of this mundane terms. Well, a factory is a place where certain products are produced, developed or processed. In this case, this factory is purely dedicated to making chocolates and other sweets – what you are smelling is cocoa, the main ingredient for making chocolates.”My mouth widened as Caelum led us inside a room where big whirring things circulates the dark fluid from the transparent glass. The process

Chapter 33CAELUM“That’s called—Lu-Le...L”I rolled my eyes before saying, “Lorry.”“Yeah! I know that it’s called lorry. You don’t have to say it for me.” I nodded my head once again, my head pounding as I felt another rush of annoyance corrupting my mood – I shouldn’t have insisted for her to read those books. “Where are we going anyways? We’ve been walking for the past hour and I am tired.”“ Do you think I’m not?” I sarcastically said, glaring up at the cobblestones that leads out of town. I have decided that we should trek a little way out of town for I wanted to show her the country side before heading at the farm outside the town. It seems that it was a terrible idea considering how sweaty we ended up with as the sun glared down at us.“That’s a scarecrow, am I correct?” I nodded, noticing the river that runs out of town by the town entrance, a few kilometres from where we are. The great oak tree looms over us and I smiled, it seems that we are a little bit closer than I tho

Chapter 34CAELUM I squinted my eyes and noticed Carlos, pulling his trousers up from his waist as he struggled with the basket of grapes, balancing it on his hips, “Mon signore! Grande. Migliore uve – very very supple!” He said between huff and puff, stumbling as he beckon us down at the bench, facing the stomping place. Rubin sat and her eyes widened when Carlos put the basket of grapes down at her feet, “This are the best harvest so far, try it, rufina!” Carlos held out a piece in front of her face and Rubin takes it, popping the grape in her mouth. “Hmm,” She takes another piece and Carlos claps his hand, “This is like our grapes back in Eros. How did—”“Eros? Where is that place, signore?” Carlos looks at me, his sweaty face full of curiousity. Shaking my head, I asked for him to direct us to the stomping place. The ladies are already there, cheering while Zita held out some clothes for us to wear. I threw the shirt and shorts at an unsuspecting Rubin who sneered as it hit her

Chapter 35CAELUMRubin looks up at me through her eyelashes and inquired, “What’s wrong? What’s with the face?” I shrugged, not answering her as I stepped out of the crushed grapes, my body trembling a bit. As the hours pass by, I noticed how each moment seems to add on what I am feeling – like Rubin was trying to prove som I have long forgotten but, have I really forgotten? I scratched the back of my head as I swiftly walked away from Rubin, finding the need to tell Aeon about all this – about what I feel and about my visions. Aeon will know what we should do.I wash my feet, avoiding Carlos who bolted up from where he sits, asking me about my wine preference and what he should prepare for lunch. I headed up the hill, confused of what I am feeling. I should hurry us back to the manor to tell Aeon about all this. The entrance to the cellar underground was lit, so I sneak down, pulling my hair, trying to find some comfort as I calm my nerves down. I needed some space. I tried sear

Chapter 36 RUBINI was shocked to see the both of them dissolved from the room.I wonder where they have disappeared to. Settling on one of the sofa, I reminisced about the things that happened during the day – was it all a dream? I held the sides of my face, feeling the warmth from them. It felt incredible. My heart thudded inside my chest like I have ran a thousand miles making it seem as though I was floating, like I weight nothing, like I have became a vapor, one with the clouds…Still smiling, I didn’t notice it that it has gotten dark outside, the fireplace dim as all of the wood was now consumed by the fire. I stood from the sofa and stretched my back, only to jump to the side as I noticed someone leaning down on me. I shrieked out loud, collapsing back at the sofa, “Aeon! What did you do that for?” I scrambled up from the sofa and crossed my arm over my chest. “I saw you – smiling like you won something,” he squinted his eyes, waving a finger in front of my face in a suspic

Chapter 37RUBIN“You, go take this at the table while I finish the sausages,” Aeon passed me the eggs and I followed his orders, hoping that he’ll be able to help me retrieve my bow because Caelum hasn’t gone down for breakfast yet. I don’t even know if he will, and if he would ever be willing to be with me. Tipping the rest of the eggs on a plate, Aeon walks towards the table and sits across me, “Make sure not to consume it all, Caelum will go down shortly.”“How’d you know? He has not answered me when I asked awhile ago – I am betting on it that he’s still fast asleep.”“My winds don’t fail me like people do, cupid.” As soon as he says these words, I am amazed to see Caelum walking inside the kitchen, snatching a couple of sausages on his wake before walking out, quickly as though he was avoiding me. I bolted out of my seat, not giving him a chance to escape even if my hands are sweaty, trying to get a hold of myself. “Caelum,” I called out and I smiled in relief, thanking the he

Chapter 38RUBINThe floor lurched making my eyes widen.Newman looks at me as though he would laugh but I’m glad when he cleared his throat and stared at the other direction with no emotions in his face. The doors open with a ‘ ping’ again and I was startled as a couple more Gaeans entered. Soon enough, the whole room is full of them, making me remember the time when I first arrived here on earth which is roughly a month ago. Which means – I only have 70 days left! When our number turned dull yellow, Newman tugged me out of the cramped room. I stood for a while, trying to steady myself so as to avoid from falling face first on the floor for I felt dizzy. Newman held my upper arm and said in a stern voice, “Did you get dizzy? Do you have claustrophobia?” he whispered in a concerned voice as he steadied me with both hands now. I shake my head and straightened up. “What’s claustrophobia?” I asked him and he rolled his eyes. I breathe in and out, “It was my first time to ride that thin

Chapter 39 RUBINIt doesn’t fail to surprise me every time a place dissolves as though it was melting around me and the other one takes over it, solidifying, like it was being built in a fast pace. Birds twitter around, some of them diving in the fountain, splashing as they rejoiced of the water. Aeon marched at the front door and asked for me to prepare my arrow and open it only to be surprise when the door opens. Caelum’s head popped out and he ushered us in. With my guilty hand over my satchel, I silently followed after Newman. “I didn’t expect you to take longer as you should considering the short distance between here and there,” Caelum said as we walk inside, his eyes glued at the books on Aeon’s hand “I can say that you’ve taken your sweet precious time in my flat, judging by those books.” Aeon nervously passed the books to Newman whose knees buckled of the weight, fumbling with them on his arms. “Well, you cannot blame me for taking my time searching over your books consi

Chapter 40RUBINEntering an alley, I grabbed a vial of potion from my satchel and poured it on top of my head. Warmth flooded my insides as I walk back outside the sun, now unnoticeable. I took an arrow from my quiver and lined it with my bow while I choose my desirable victim. The park was sprinkled here and there with children and adults – all occupied with their own business. I couldn’t decide on whom should I target. I bit my lip. I scurried behind a tree and let the arrow fly across and hit a guy who is running after a dog. I watched as the dog pulled harder and the leash tangled with the girl’s roller skate, making her stumble on top of the guy. The dog sniffed its owner before licking the girl’s face as though, the dog approves. “Not bad for today,” I counted my arrows and recheck the tally on my notebook – 23 couples to go. I am past my quota. I just have to work harder to spot which of these Gaeans deserves my blessing of undying love. Slipping the bow on my shoulder, I no
