Chapter 41
Neaera-“Did you see anyone?” I asked when I reached them.“We ran into a warrior on patrol, but he was passed out. After we smelled the wolfsbane, we carried him to a shed outside of the territory line. Other than that, we didn’t find anyone else. We saw some tracks where it looked like wolves were being dragged, but there were too many tracks to figure out which direction to go.” Leo answered.“I am sure that the noise was a distraction. I don’t know what is going on, but I don’t like this one bit.” Anthony added.I was thinking the exact same thing. If only I was able to control my ability to feel what others felt, I could locate everyone. It was strange how everyone that had been running around earlier, had all disappeared.Looking down the street we were on, I didn’t see anyone. My ears were still ringing from the sirens going off and now I couldn’t smell anything over this overbearing scent. The biggest question I had going through my head right now, was how was it possible to m

Chapter 42
Stryker-The wait was killing me. Thirty long minutes have passed since I saw my mate. Dirk had shown up with Chase, one of the newest warriors that were just recruited this year. Not long after that, I felt the pack link of one of my members break. It pissed me off that I couldn’t find out what was going on. I had attempted to after feeling one of my members die, but Zach and Dirk had held me back. Only with Zach explaining for the tenth time why I couldn’t leave, did I calm down.“Where are the others?” I directed my question to both Dirk and Zach since they were the only ones that could connect with the hybrids.“Anthony just informed me that Neaera overheard who her father and mother were.” Dirk responded.“Who are they?” Mathew asked, his curiosity showing in his voice.“Dimitri is her father and,” He paused as he looked over at Zach. “He said that Rieka is her mother.”Not really understanding the significance of what he said, my attention fell on Zach. His eyes were wide, and h

Neaera-“To make sure that you return, I think I should have one of you stay here with me.” Dimitri stopped us from leaving, by signaling a group of vampires to surround us.Grinding my teeth, I kept myself from saying what I really wanted to say to him. Did he think for one second, I was just going to hand someone over when he already had the one thing that I was willing to return for? They might not be my pack any longer, but I had already agreed to return to the pack. Not only that, but this was Stryker’s pack, which meant that if something happened to everyone, it could potentially kill him. That wasn’t something I was willing to chance. Letting one of the hybrids stay back though, was overstepping a line when we were the werewolves’ best chance of getting them out of this situation.“You already have over a hundred werewolves, why do you need one more?” I asked instead, trying to buy a little time while I try to figure a way out of this.“It is simple really. You might be willing

Chapter 44
Neaera-He held me in his arms for a good while, before he set me on my feet. His hands cradled my face as he moved my head from side to side, then he moved his hands to grab my wrists to spread my arms out. He continued to move my body around, turning me around, checking me over from head to toe.“Are you hurt anywhere?” He asked as he checked over my body.Seeing how he was carefully examining me for injuries, I felt a little better about everything going on. We might be in a messed-up situation with no idea how to get out of it, but at least I had him to be there for me. It was endearing just knowing that he had my best interest at heart.“I am fine. None of them hurt me.” I assured him while grabbing his hands, so he would stop examining me.“Guys, hate to break up this sweet moment you are having, but why don’t we go inside so we can talk about what is going on?” Kalea interrupted us, her hands pressing against my back to urge me to go inside.Stryker pulled me into his side and

Neaera-Fire blazed all around me, although I didn’t know where I was. It was hard to see anything through the flames and the smoke. I could hear screams coming from every direction I turned.I kept looking for a way to get past the flames, but there weren’t any openings. Reaching my hand out, I reached out to the fire, yet it wasn’t hot. I could feel the heat against my skin, but it didn’t burn.“What is going on?” I asked aloud, not expecting anyone to answer.“We are within your dreams.” A familiar voice said, but I couldn’t place where I had heard the voice.“What is this dream?” I asked, now feeling silly that I was talking to myself, and yet I wasn’t at the same time.“This is your future.” The voice spoke again, sounding as if it was fading away.“Please tell me more.” I begged, not wanting to be left alone. The voice didn’t answer me again, so I took a step back and twirled around, hoping to see who I had been talking to. I didn’t see anything, except the flames that danced ar

Neaera-Once I had settled down enough, Stryker and I went downstairs. I hadn’t told him about my dream because I knew it was going to be something I was going to need to tell everyone. Since I didn’t want to relive the experience more than I had to, I waited until we were all gathered downstairs.I filled them in on everything that I could remember, making sure to emphasize that the wolf told me that it would be because of me. No one said anything for a long while after I finished talking. They all seemed to either be deep in thought or deeply disturbed, I couldn’t tell which.“Are you sure it was your wolf you were talking to?” Zach spoke first.“Honestly, I am not entirely sure, but there was a familiarity that I felt next to her. She was black and had red eyes. She didn’t seem very friendly towards me though.” I sighed as I gently slid around the coffee mug I had between my palms, on the table.“Don’t take that too personal.” Stryker said with a slight chuckle. “Half the time my w

Chapter 47
Neaera-Feeling a little better that we were starting to get somewhere with everything, I turned to face Stryker, giving him my full attention.“We know that you have control when touching me, so I was thinking what if we start with that and slowly integrate that to where I am not touching you? Where I pull my hand back little by little?”I was expecting something else from him, not this. Scrunching my brows together, I thought about what he was suggesting. It sounded a little way too simple.“I was just thinking that if we slowly introduced it, it might help. First, we would need you to be able to understand what you are doing when we are touching.” Stryker added.Maybe it sounded easier than it actually did, either way, I didn’t know how this could solve anything. It certainly sounded like something that would take a bit of time, which we didn’t have a lot of. Letting out a slow breath, I nodded my head.“We can try it.” As the words left my lips, I looked around the table, hoping s

Neaera-We returned to the house and found that everyone was already gathered around the table. My laptop was in the center with Zach, Travis, and Mathew watching the screen. They looked engrossed in whatever they were seeing, but there was no sound.“What is going on?” I asked as both Stryker and I stepped around to see the computer as well.On the computer screen, it was a video feed that was in the gym. Dimitri was pacing back and forth yelling something. From the way he was throwing his hands around, I could see he was mad about something. He moved to stand in front of someone, but I couldn’t see clearly who it was. Their body was just outside of the video frame, but I could see their right shoulder. I wish we had audio, because whatever was going on, looked as if Dimitri was losing his cool.“We are trying to get audio, but he has been like this for the last twenty minutes. It is Leo that he is yelling at.” Zach answered.“Do you know why?” I placed my hand on Zach's shoulder and

Neaera-“I love this car!” Natalia said as I climbed into the driver's seat.I had thought about having Stryker drive, but I wasn’t very prone to let anyone drive my car except for me. I knew that I would have to let him take over eventually because I did need to focus on controlling my ability before we got there. That didn’t mean I couldn’t at least drive for the first hour or so.“Thanks.” I said, not sure what else to say.Waiting for Stryker to get in the car, as he was talking to Mathew, I adjusted my rearview mirror so I could see her without turning around. She was kind of cute, in the gothic but girly sense. She had long black hair with pink hair framing her face. She couldn’t be more than nineteen, but with her size, she looked as if she was closer to twelve. At most I was only a few inches taller than her, but she looked tiny compared to me. Unlike her, I was more built, as I spent these last few years getting rid of my fat and building a good amount of muscle.I had curves

Neaera-“I think I have it under control enough to connect with everyone.” I said through our link and was surprised when it went through without difficulties.“You have no idea how happy I am to hear that.” He responded shortly after, with a bit of laughter in his voice.Wanting to share my good news with Stryker, I looked over at him as I opened my mind up to him as well. “I did it.”I knew I still had to figure out control on the empathy portion of things, but for the first time since I found out I was a hybrid, I felt relatively normal. I was happy about that, which was saying a lot when Stryker made the car swerve suddenly, and I didn’t get upset about him nearly wrecking my car.“Sorry.” He muttered, but a wide smile spread across his voice as he continued to speak, but only to me, by using our link through the mate bond. “Seriously?”“Seriously. How else would I be able to speak to you like this without touching you?” I teased, still using the link between us.He looked down at
