3. Ava

Ave jumped on the alleged thief and started hitting the thief with her sandals whilst shouting on top of her voice ,“ you good for nothing thief, ain’t you ashamed to be stealing for a living? Don’t you have a conscience?! You should be ashamed of yourself, I will not spare you today, I’m sure you are the one that stole my chocolate candy that fell down the stairs the last time.”

She increased the beatings as she remembered the chocolate she losted when she wanted to drop her bag in her room before going and pick it up but alas she went there and met nothing on the floor. She was devastated that day because she had great plans for that candy before it was stolen.

Alice shouted at the top of her voices as she pushed Ava off of her,”you fucking fool Ava!, it is me get off me”

Alice’s scream and push got her mid way when she was about to hit her again. She paused her movement and called out to the familiar voice she heard.

“Mmm-huh Alice?”.

Alice glared and pushed her off completely as she tried to get up and adjust herself well,“what has gotten into you bubble, you don’t just start beating people up any how for no reason!”.

She got up and put her hands on her waist like an angry mother, Ava blushed red with her eyes downcast. She knows Alice only used her nickname ‘bubble’ for her when she is angry and right now she was angry.

In a small and timid voice Ava said whilst playing with her fingers,”mm-I thought you were a thief so I was -mm-simply revenging my stolen items.”

Alice thought she misheard her and asked to be sure,”you thought I was a thief?”.

Ave nodded and Alice stared at her absolute disbelief with her eye brow raised slightly.

She pointed between both of them with her right index finger and spoke, “you saw me, on the floor sleeping, not anywhere near your door and automatically thought I was a thief?, Unbelievable Ava! I wonder what goes on in that pretty head of yours”.

“Well, When you put it that way, it doesn’t make any sense. It actually sounds silly,” she wished the ground will swallow her at the time she want to hide her face in shame because the more she thought about it, the more she realizes that it doesn’t make sense at all. Her face was so red in embarrassment that you’d think it was on fire.

Alice shook her head in amazement and pulled on her hand, “can we go in now, I’ve been waiting for you for hours now, I think. I didn’t even know when I fell asleep and suddenly became a thief and was almost beaten to death”. Alice stretched her tired body slightly with a yawn.

Although Ava knows she was merely teasing her, she still felt bad about it and murmured a nearly inaudible ‘sorry’ and dragged Alice to the room with Alice laughing her lungs out.

For a while there, she forgot all her worries and enjoyed the peace around her. After the two settled in the room, she told Ava everything that happened that lead to her being thrown out of place she had call her home since she learned how to talk. To say Ava was angry was an understatement, she was so furious that Alice had to hold her back so she doesn’t go and commit ‘murder’ as she termed it.

“Hold me back Ally or I will commit murder, I know you love me so you’d help me hide their fucking wicked dead bodies. I’m just so glad that you are not related to that bi*ch and her mother directly”Ava exclaimed angrily.

Alice held her back till she was calm and relax before releasing her completely.

She had a spare room in her apartment that she even suggested Alice stay in with her so she doesn’t go and beg the Davison for a place to stay, ‘at least I have someone to depend on in this cruel world’, Alice thought to herself watching Ava busy herself tidying up the rooms.

They chatted about everything and anything, Ava even shared her food with Alice which was a major shock to her but she guessed it was her way of showing how sorry she was for what happened earlier. After eating, they bid each other bye and went to sleep, for the first time in a very long time Alice slept like a baby. She slept soundly and throughout the night without having to worry about anything or the fact that Nina will demand for food so early in the morning that she often wake up five in the morning to prepare breakfast for the family.

She woke up to the aroma of food, she stretched her tired body before making way out of her new room. She followed the aroma which led her to a cozy kitchen in the heart of the apartment. Entering the room, she caught sight of Ava dancing like she was from the 70’s and wanted to shade her eyes from such a sight, ‘oh my, how can I unsee this, it is surely going to live rent free in my head’, she thought to herself with mixed feelings. She doesn’t know whether to cry or loud at the scene in front of her.

Ava turned suddenly whilst dancing and gasped out loud out of fright and dropped the spatula she was holding, she was not expecting to turn and see Alice there with an awkward smile on her face. Tge plate she was holding on the other hand also nearly fell on the ground with it contents.

“Ally! didn’t anyone tell you not to sneak up on people like that! You almost gave me a heart attack woman!”, she exclaimed loudly in frustration .

Alice just ignored her and took the plate from her hand to serve herself the food she was cooking. Ava glared at her before proceeding to pout instead because there was nothing she can do about it. She watched as Alice started eating the food hungrily as if she had not seen food for days without even acknowledging all her efforts.

“So mean, I tell you. The least she could have done was wait for me to dish my food first and enjoy the taste first but no! she took the best part of the first serving and didn’t even say thanks”, Ava muttered begrudgingly to herself as she dished the remaining food for herself.

Whilst they were eating Ava’s phone rang continuously. Annoyed that she was interrupted from her eating the delicious food fire her, she picked up the phone angrily and shouted,“hello!”.

Her expression changed when she heard the other person’s voice and her face darkened at the words used by the person on the other side of the call.

“She’s not here, you sent her packing, go and look for her yourself! You asshole!”, she said harshly before hanging up the call with a scoff.

She rolled her eyes when the phone rang again but didn’t pick up this time. The way she angry and shoving food angrily into her mouth made Alice very curious. The Ava she knew was was always very nice and kind to everyone hence it was a rare occurrence for Ava to behave like the way she did towards anyone else besides Linda. She hates Linda to the core and never wants to be in the same space as her.

‘Is it Linda?’ she asked herself as she eyed Ava’s sudden moodiness.

“Ava who was that?”, Alice asked Ava who pretended she didn’t hear the question Alice asked. Alice had to ask again in a more firming voice.

Ava out air from her mouth and answered sweetly “oh that was no one at all, just ignore it”, she answered dismissively with an eye roll.

Although she wasn’t convinced she let it go after eyeing her mood once again.

After breakfast, the two friends did the dishes and went to living room to watch their favorite comedy show. They were so immerse in the show that they didn’t hear the several knocks on the door.

A very loud bang brought their attention to the door, curious they stare at each other as if asking ‘who will come in search of us’, they both shook their heads at each other. Truly, no one will come in search of them and hurried to check the door.

Linda was standing in her usual expensive designer outfit, loud make up and strong designer perfumes and was staring at her surrounding in disgust.

Her disgust increased when she saw the two people she hated most in front of her. With a glare pointed at them, she questioned them angrily.

“Do you know how long I’ve been waiting here, you even dare hang up on me and refused to pick my calls! You are getting very bold mad girl! I think it’s about time, I put you in your rightful place”.

She glared pointedly at Ava who was only looking at her with amusing eyes.

Ava turned her back to the woman behind them and attempted to close the door but Linda pushed her way in inside the room and smiled victoriously.

“Didn’t you mention that you had no idea where Alice was? Thankfully, I knew you were lying and probably housing her so I rushed over. She doesn’t have any other friend besides you. And now that she’s more like an orphan, she will come running to you. Bunch of losers if you ask me!”.

“That’s why no body asked you Linda!”, Ava replied her with an eye roll.

They rolled their eyes once again in an annoyed manner, “what you want Linda, we were watching an amazing tv show before you shown up, tell us what you want and go out. I’m on no mood for your childish play”, Alice uttered with a frown on her face.

Linda’s eyes where looking around the apartment in contempt and said upset mindedly, “Our parents want you home this evening for dinner”. She voiced out dramatically.

They looked at Linda as if she had lost her mind, “what do you mean by our parent, you and whose parent? As far as I know, I might as well be an orphan. I have no business with the Davison family. Alice said with a careless shrug of shoulders making Ava giggle softly at her indifference towards Linda.

Seeing how calm she was, Linda couldn’t understand why she wasn’t breaking down like they thought, wanting to provoke her farther, she touched on a touchy topic to get a reaction from her.

“I sincerely know why they want to meet with you but I’m guessing they want you to come because they miss you but mmm I will like to inform your that Leej family will also be coming, I think they want to announce my engagement with Matt.” She said shyly with a flushed face.

Alice stared at her with boredom and yawned “okk tell them I will come around for dinner. If that is all, can you go so we can watch our show?”

Without waiting for a reply, they left her standing there looking like a fool and concentrated on the show. She stomped her foot in anger, ‘how dare them ignore and treat me like this. Alice you wait, I will teach you a lesson, you won’t be too quick to forget’, she thought angrily to herself.

With one last glare at the two cozy looking pair, she left the apartment with so much anger and disappointment about her failed plans.
