Bruised Elbow

By two o'clock in the afternoon, Rebekah's phone rang.

She jumped at the first ring as if she was not expecting it, but the truth was that she had been waiting for the call since she woke up that morning.

She had been so committed to waiting for the call that she did not know when she slept off out of exhaustion because she had deprived herself of sleep the previous night.

Rebekah glanced at her father's sleeping form on the hospital bed, and she couldn't help feeling guilty.

This was all her fault she thought.

If she didn't argue with him the previous day then perhaps he wouldn't be laying in a hospital bed, but the circumstance called for an argument.

He wanted her to marry a man she held no emotional attraction to, a man she barely even, a man who she had never seen in her life.

The whole thing sounded crazy but she couldn't deny that she was curious about the kind of man he was.
