**Elizabeth's POV**

Sometimes my heart raced when I thought of Caleb. I felt like I could hear my wolf's voice. But each time I tried to carefully feel my wolf's presence, it completely disappeared again.

Maybe it's the palpitations and tinnitus caused by my staying up late doing experiments. Time was running out and I had to race against time.

Carolina tried very hard to play the role of my assistant. She keeps a close eye on everything but the experiment for me to keep me focused.

"Meow..."

A young cat's cry came from under the window.

"Looks like there's a cat out there?" I said without looking up.

I, out of the corner of my eye, saw Carolina walking toward the window, but I didn't care.

I was staring intently at the changes in the petri dish until I heard a shrill cat cry.

I raised my head and saw Carolina fall backwards to the ground. Her arm was oozing blood, and the cat that had scratched her had fled the window.

"Carolina!" I dropped everything I was holding and ran to Carol
