It left a bitter taste in my mouth because I had before me the certainty of how long it took me to take action and how neglectful I was towards my little one.

"And you're also offering the same thing, Nicole?" I addressed the other girl, the one who managed to catch my attention in a completely inappropriate way, given the circumstances.

"That's right, Mr. Mackenzie," she confirmed with conviction.

"Do you have any idea of how taxing this will be? What you will need to give up when the time comes?" I decided to be direct. "You are still very young, and you may not fully grasp the seriousness of the situation."

Nicole jumped from the couch where she had been sitting until then and looked at me with a fierce gleam in her eyes.

"We know exactly what this contract entails. And if we are willing to do this, it's because the situation leads us to it."
