Her

Nick.

Although she was wearing the most conservative black pants I’d ever seen, I could tell that she had a banging body underneath the drab uniform. Her light brown hair was parted in the middle and fell down in waves on the sides of her pretty face.  Her glossy and kissable lips had tempted me after first glance that morning. Every time she came to check on me, I had made sure to take a good glance at them as they moved. She had a cute straight nose and glossy brown eyes.

When she brought my lunch, I couldn’t help but feel more drawn to her. Unfortunately, she was one of the good types. That made me want her even more. A girl with that much self-control was rare and I knew I had to have her.

When she left me, I stared at the door for a long time before taking off my shirt and jumping into the pool to cool myself down. The scent of her soft but tantalizing perfume still lingered in the air, the smell of it giving me a pull I had never felt before. I smiled before diving back into the water. There was no way I was letting that beautiful woman go.

Suddenly, my phone started ringing. I climbed out of the pool and quickly dried my hands before picking it up.

“Darling,” a shrilly voice said to my ear.

Shit. I realised I had forgotten to check the caller ID. My latest fling did not seem to understand the concept of a fling. It was not supposed to last and she was not my girlfriend just because we occasionally had sex.

Hailey was one hell of a sexy woman and I enjoyed having sex with her but she was no good outside the bedroom. I liked her well enough, though. But now that I had met this new woman, I want nothing to do with Hailey.

Hailey reminded me of my stepmother Carrie, the gold digger who had tried to trick my father into giving her everything he owned.

“How are you, Hailey?”

“I’m okay, heading to the airport. I can’t wait to meet up with you.”

“No, Hailey. I have changed my mind. I don’t think you should come anymore. Wait for me home and I’ll come to you.”

“What? Why are you saying this?”

I sighed, rolling my eyes at her attempt to emotionally manipulate me. Funny since I didn’t feel anything for her.

“I just can’t be with you right now okay?”

“Did you meet another woman?”

“No, of course not. I just need time by myself.”

“How come Jon and Kyle are still allowed to come.”

“I’m not going to be with them.”

“Okay, I guess I’ll stay. I hope you have a wonderful time.”

“Thank you so much, darling. See you soon.”

I hang up before she could say anything else. As soon as I placed the phone down, the ringtone I had set for Kyle started blaring. This time I did not need to look at the caller ID to know who was calling.

“Kyle.”

“Hey, we’ve just arrived. Are you at the resort? Are you still up for hand gliding?”

“Yes, of course. I’m just having lunch.”

“Could you order for us? We’re famished.”

“They’re quite quick with orders so you don’t have to worry about delays. You’ll order when you get here.”

“Whatever, man.”

I could have ordered for them, but I did not wish to make Maddie more uncomfortable than she was already. After hanging up, I went and savoured the delicious food Maddie had brought. It was so good, as I had hoped. Every time I went to Maui, I stayed at that resort because it was the best. However, it was my first time to see Maddie.

Most of the waitresses that served me when I was around liked to throw themselves at me. The more conservative ones would give subtle clues and quickly take up the offer if you reciprocated. The fact that Maddie, although madly attracted to me, had resisted said a lot about her. I couldn’t help wanting to get to know her better.

After finishing my meal, I went back to my room and showered before changing into black shorts and t-shirt. Lying on the couch, I turned the TV on. A few minutes later, I heard a knock on the front door. I jumped off the couch and went to open it. The excitement I felt died down as soon as I saw it was Hailey at the door and not my friends. My smile was immediately replaced with a frown.

“What are you doing here?”

“Seriously?” she said, shaking her head. “This was not the welcome I was expecting.”

“I told you to stay home, and how did you get here so fast anyway? We just talked a few minutes ago.”

“I’ll tell you if you let me in. I can’t stand in the hallway like a criminal.”

“Fine, get in.”

I closed the door after she did. “Okay, speak.”

She looked around for a while, probably trying to find out if I was hiding another woman. “Okay, I wanted to surprise you. When I called you, I had already got off the plane and was in the taxi coming over. I thought you’d be pleasantly surprised to see me. Guess I was wrong.”

“Yes, you were.”

Emotional blackmail was a tactic women like Hailey loved to use but it wasn’t going to work on me. My gold digging stepmother had tried to use that on me to make me like her but I never did. Thankfully, my father realised what kind of woman she was before it was too late.

“Well, I can’t go back now.”

“Fine but you’ll have to get a separate room.”

“What? What’s going on?”

“I don’t have to explain myself to you, Hailey.  We’re not dating.”

“Yes, but we’re good friends, aren’t we? For all the times we’ve been together, I think I deserve an explanation.”

I sighed. “Fine. I’m interested in someone else. Is that satisfactory enough?”

“Is she staying in this resort?”

“No, she’s a native.” I lied. “We met on the plane.”

“It’s okay,” she said. “It must be a crush and I’m sure it’ll be over. I’ll always be here for you.” she came and kissed me. “I’m going to get another room but I’ll be going hand gliding with you guys. You won’t get rid of me that easily.”

“Okay,” I said.

Suddenly, the door burst open and three of my friends entered the room. They did not have bags with them so I assumed they had already checked in. When the greetings were done, Kyle spoke.

“Were heading to the restaurant man. Come with us.”

“No, I’ve already eaten.”

“Come on,” insisted. “Just come with us. You can take a glass of water or something. Why would you come all the way here to be alone? We came to have a good time together.”

I decided to man up. “Okay, let’s go.”

I just hoped Maddie wouldn’t get any clues about Hailey and I.
