"Who said I couldn't?" I threw back, reaching for another scoop of ice cream.

Why the hell was he talking to me like that? Like I was a child who couldn't make decisions? If I wanted to work it was my damn business!

"Chloe," his voice had a hint of warning in it and if I were his employee probably, I would have shrunk in fear. "This isn't funny,"

"You don't see me laughing now do you?" I said pointedly. "And I don't get what the big deal is."

He looked appalled by what I had said. His eyes flashed angrily and he laughed a short harsh one. "You don't get... You don't... What's the big deal? Oh, I don't know, maybe because you're fucking pregnant?!"

The cafe went quiet and I felt my face flush in shame and anger. I stared hard at my ice cream, trying not to look up to see the judgemental look on people's faces.

"How about you speak a little louder," I hissed. "They couldn't hear you at the fucking empire state building,"
